1. T.O.M.M.Y.

We start off with this introduction to the album.  It’s definitly in a cheerleading kind of mood, oddly enough, they use “EVERYDAY AT THE BUS STOP” but they spell her name T.O.M.Y., where’s the missing ~M~?  XD Anyway the synths before the cheerleasders come in sounds pretty catchy and cool.  oh well, it leads to the next track perfectly

2. EVERYDAY AT THE BUS STOP

Leading after the intro immediatly this song sets up the whole tone of the album, fun poppy love songs.  I actually enjoy this song a lot.  The song itself has a light-hearted feeling to it, add a consistent beat and you have this song.  I love how Tommy is longing for her lover in this song.  Either way, this song is a great beginning tune.

3. Tommy Feb Latte, Macaron.

Whoop!  What a party song this is.  I love how the bass is sounding through the song, making itself noteworthy.  It’s definitly more laidback then “EVERYDAY” but still, has a very pop like sound to it.  I just adore this entire song and it’s instrumentation, very cool song.

4. Bloomin’!

Going back to the faster pop sounds, Bloomin’! was her last single and on here, it’s much more enjoyble knowing that there isn’t a crappy remix after it.  Bloomin’! has a fantasy like sound going for it.  Though the bridge is awesome, and very meaningful for her.  The chorus repeats at the end can get annoying, but it’s nothing to dwell too much about. Good song overall.

5. HEY BAD BOY

Finally, the 1st new song.  Well, it’s very groovy, obviously when she says ~Hey, Bad Boy~.  It has a New Wave sound to it which is pretty cool, and seems she’s having some fun in it.  I do question why there is glass breaking in the song.  The chorus seems urgent in some ways which adds to the coolness of the song.  Guitar solo was pretty nice in the song too.  Catchy tune most definitly.

6. ♥KISS♥ ONE MORE TIME

Well, we are sucked back into the Synths galore of Kiss One More Time, it still is hellishly catchy…I still think she sounds a bit bored and monotone though, but I guess this formula works in this kind of song.  Still, the computerized vocals in this song was just not needed, though I guess it did lengthen the song up which is a good thing lol.

7. WHERE ARE YOU? “MY HERO”

Whoa, this song starts off dark sounding.  The synths are great in this song.  It’s definitly a new turn with this song.  ~I wanna run in sugar rain~  Wow…that’s a lyric to start off with.  Funny, how this song is a bout a girl waiting for her man!.  Then she goes all evil in the second lyrics and really off.  ~I’ll kill you my shadow~  I wonder what she’s exactly referring to.  Anyway, what an awesome song.

8. WALK AWAY FROM YOU MY BABE

After the darkest song on the album, we get the groovy song, Walk Away From You My Babe.  I would call this the breakup song, which is kinda ironic in this funky tune.  Then again like I said in the single review for “EVERYDAY AT THE BUS STOP” she does cuss in the song, it’s located during her “rap” moment.  Still it’s my favorite song off the album.

9. Koi wa Nemuranai

Continuing this trend of pop songs is the only Japanese titled track.  It’s actually more laidback.  It’s got a fantasy feeling to it also, but I didn’t really think this track was really memorable.  I mean it’s an alright song don’t get me wrong, but I just knew this was a filler track.  It’s just there to make more time in the album

10. Can’t take my eyes off of you

1967….does anyone remember this song coming out from Ritchie Valens?  Didn’t think so, but this song has been done by SOOOO many artists.  On to Tommy’s remake, This is actually pretty cool.  She’s using her lower register for the verses and her higher register for the chorus which is pretty unusual for a song like this.  Still, this song actually makes me picture her singing this song on a plane for some reason.  It just has that quality that ur just flying.  The music intrumentation is to be thanked for.  Wished it was a bit longer, but music back then was always short, so I can’t argue on that.

11. I’LL BE YOUR ANGEL

Wow, it’s an actual ballad, Tommy really sounds quite nice singing in a soft tone.  It’s got an actual wintery feel to it, which I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.  I’ll Be Your Angel, is actually fits with the album because it still uses synths dominantly.  It drags, but I guess it’ll go away the more times you listen to it.

12. ★CANDY POP IN LOVE★

Ok, like I said from the “KISS ONE MORE TIME” single, this song is very cute, and still is the cutest song on the entire album.  It’s placing on the album is way odd, because 1. It’s after a ballad and 2. final song.  So going from “I’LL BE YOUR ANGEL” is a tad unusual and I would’ve have like that to have been the last song.  Anyway, Tommy still sounds alright in the song, still not my favorite song on the album.  Sorry.

 Tracks Recommended

  • WALK AWAY FROM YOU MY BABE
  • Tommy Feb Latte, Macaron.
  • Can’t take my eyes off of you
  • I’LL BE YOUR ANGEL
  • Bloomin’!

Tommy February6’s debut is definitly a good one.  If you like fun pop tunes this is definitly the album to get.  The last 2 songs should have been switched around to have made the album make a little more sense than to end on “Candy Pop In Love”.  Either way Tomoko has created a crazy with this alter ego.

Track Listing

  1. Automatic
  2. time will tell
  3. time will tell (Dub Mix)

1. Automatic

Utada welcomes us with an infectious R&B rhythm, and she does it well too.  Utada sounds very strong unlike her 1st English album.  Through the song, it gets catchy even the ~It’s Automatic!~ she sounds like she’s having a lot of fun in this song which is great!  I can see why this song turned her famous overnight.

2. time will tell

It starts out very quiet with her humming, then the synths join in and Utada ad-libs.  When she starts the verse some drums come in and make a groovy beat.  You can also hear a bit of guitar also.  Seems like this is the more laidback version of “Automatic” which is pretty cool.  At over 5 minutes, this tune is just catchy the whole way through.

3. time will tell (Dub Mix)

It’s kinda hip if you ask me.  But this remix, is so boring and so uneventful too.  She doesn’t even come in until two minutes in the remix which blows.  So it’s not much of worth really.

Utada’s 1st Japanese single is definitly a hit, and it shows because this song made her famous almost immediatly.  I almost was shocked at how this single came out and did that.  Definitly don’t pass this single up

Ai Otsuka – Sakuranbo June 1, 2008

sakuranbo

Track Listing

  1. Sakuranbo
  2. Kaerimichi
  3. Momo no Hanabira (Studio Live ver.)
  4. Sakuranbo (Instrumental)
  5. Kaerimichi (Instrumental)

1. Sakuranbo

Well, It starts out floral sounding, I guess that’s what you call it.  This is also one of Ai’s trademark “Cute” songs, which fit her voice almost perfectly.  Everytime I hear the bridge, I keep thinking “Happy Days” which isn’t a bad thing persay.  There’s another version of it sounding more rock, which I like better, but this is kind of the fun version.  The instrumentation is also fitting for a song like this too.

2. Kaerimichi

Welcome to the farm!  I swear after the finger snapping, we get some whistling, and then comes the wooden blocks, which create a laidback, on the farm feeling.  Ai in this tune sounds great throughout which is definitly a good thing.  The only thing I could really find is that it’s a long song clocking a little over 5 minutes and the last few seconds of the song she’s ~La, la, la-ing, which sounds a bit off.  But, why pay attention? It’s a nice song to just tap your foot a long with.

3. Momo no Hanabira (Studio Live ver.)

What’s to say?  It’s her 1st single redone practically, Ai continues to sound great and to tell you the truth, she sounds better than the single.  Anyway they made more of a ballad this time around, it still does get kinda annoying with her repeating the same words, either way, better as a ballad.

Ai’s 2nd single Sakuranbo, was definitly a hit for a reason, we had Sakuranbo which is her fun side, Kaerimichi, which covers her laidback side, and a remake of her 1st single.  I actually enjoyed this single a lot, and I was kinda disappointed that Kaerimichi didn’t make the final cut.  i’ll live though.  Still, great single all-around!

bloomin

Track Listing

  1. Bloomin’!
  2. Bloomin’! (ONGAKU MIX)
  3. Bloomin’! (Original Instrumental)

1. Bloomin’!

Already from the beginning you can tell that this is going to be a fun-sounding song.  Though lyrically, Bloomin’! is a love song for sure, it sure has it’s qualities for sure, but after going through the first two singles, it’s nothing that we’ve already heard.  Though, she does say ~Jellybeans~ which pretty much made me think, huh????  Either way, it’s still a pretty OK track nonetheless.

2. Bloomin’! (ONGAKU MIX)

Well, this remix starts off very repititious with the piano playing two notes, which get very annoying.  Then sound odd sounding synths/voice comes in and make it so much more annoying.  Oddest thing is that, there is little to no singing in this song it’s just those two piano notes and that strange noise.  She does, come in and say a verse in about 4 minutes.  I really don’t know why there’s such a remix like this, it was almost made out of boredom or to really piss people off.  Anyways worse, remix ever from here.  Oh yea, 7 minutes of this going on………….x.x

Bloomin’! is by far THE worst single I’ve heard so far from TF6.  The title track like I said is nice but nothing we haven’t heard before and the remix, don’t get me started on it.  Luckily, this is the final single for the Tommy February6 era!
