1. Daitan ni Ikimashou ↑Heart & Soul↑
Uhm, wow….Already by the time it starts it’s definitly not her normal style. A sort of remake of A-Teen’s “A Perfect Match”, Nami has set herself up with this very poppy tune. I’m not sure if she’s trying to pull a cute style on us, but one thing or sure is that she’s sounding like she’s having fun, if the PV didn’t show that already. Still, it’s American Pop turned J-Pop by Nami and it’s definitly worth a listen.
2. Distance
Ugh, I didn’t like this song on the album, and I still don’t like it on the single. I guess it’s ok on arrangement and vocals, but I found myself turned off by it. I also said on the album review of “Make Progress” that it sounded a bit like “DreamerS” which Distance was after so it not such a good idea. The only part that really caught me was the guitar solo. Anyway, this song isn’t her best work.
3. Special Birthday
As with “Kanashimi no Valentine” they are holiday songs, this song is ballad-y but is a bit fast for one too. Sad part it was I also didn’t like this song much because it got boring. She hits a high note in this one, and I must say it’s better this time around. Worst part is that they had to put it with “Distance” on the single for “Daitan ni Ikimashou” blech lol. Most unusual thing is that they had a sitar in the song, about a birthday? That’s something new.
Nami’s 1st single for the “Make Progress” era was to me, lackluster. Daitan ni Ikimashou is definitly a nice listen, but the two B-sides destroyed this single’s worth. Distance does go on to be on the album which was a bad idea! Special Birthday is an alright listen, still one of the strangest songs in her discography. You should pass this single up unless u want Special Birthday.
