1. Koe wo Ubawareta Shoujo
The sound of rain and thunder with an orgel melody starts us off on this mini-album. The first thing I notice is the use of strings and a lot of drums. KOKOMI sounds a little better than Fairy YUI. That is until we get into the chorus where her voice gets chipmunky for me. I actually found this to be the hinderence to the song because the musical arrangement is very nice.
2. Oz to Majou
Oz to Majou begins with accordion playing for a little bit before strings and hard guitars enter the fray. I know they are odd things happening because the accordion does not at all fit this song, period. KOKOMI sounds a lot better here and she has a pretty hectic sounding vibrato as well.
3. Mebius Syndrome
At first, I was wondering why this song sounds so low quality, but it’s actually the hardest song to come by on this mini actually. It does sound like something Yousei would definitly take up, but I’m also stuck on the fact that KOKOMI sound like F.YUI so much that it’s kind of strange. I do love the gothic sound of it all though.
4. Tsumetai Tsuki
Tsumetai Tsuki would be considered the ballad of the mini because it’s flowing along and even though there’s still drums and guitar it’s obviously a ballad just for the mood. KOKOMI kind of sucks singing here because she’s using a girly voice and it just sounds like the song was battered.
5. Silencia
Silencia is actually my favorite track off of this because the song is definitly synth happy. I was so surprised at the opening because all it was was drums and synth. KOKOMI sounds so much better as well again because she toned down the cuteness big time. There was no way to have guessed such a track would be here, but yep it is. Strangely cool.
6. Reincarnation.
Ending off this mini-album is also a dark ballad. On here it seems a bit empty and maybe the most boring of the 6. I mean there’s a constant beat and KOKOMI’s vocals are steady and there’s an obvious ethereal feel to the track. It ends the mini-album on a good note in my opinion, but this track isn’t as good as the others.
I was actually somewhat surprised at what I hear. Not only was the comparisons right about how Yousei Teikoku and Asriel have the same approach. Luckily, Asriel seems to be more about the music. but KOKOMI has some quesionable singing styles so I can’t say they are better than YT. Their debut was alright, give or take a few off tracks, but it was good otherwise.
