1. ONE SURVIVE
I’m definitly enjoying this upbeat style of Mika’s because it’s a lot more soulful and with Mika’s smoky vocals they work so well with this kind of style which is a crossbreed of jazz and disco. Her vocals are so sweet to listen to and they just are smooth as well. With the addition of the brass, it’s just amazing. Definitely something good from Mika.
2. TRUE EYES
Oddly enough, TRUE EYES is in the exact same genre zone as “ONE SURVIVE” except there’s some sitar and flutes instead of brass which is a strange pairing indeed. Still, it’s it’s the same happy-go-lucky dance track and on here it’s not such a good thing because of how similar the two tracks are. If it was on any other single, I think I’d like it tons more, but the sameness is bothersome.
3. CRESCENT MOON (Gonga Massive Version)
This is Mika’s first single to contain remixes and she first pulls up a remix from her last single. CRESCENT MOON and it’s remix aren’t too different from each other, because they both are danceable track altogether, so it’s not so much any better than each other. I’m sure there’s something distinct about it…I guess the beat is faster, but it’s quickly unnoticed by me…
4. ONE SURVIVE (Blaze Shelter Remix)
What is up with all the songs sounding like each other? I guess there’s isn’t too much to be said by this single’s remix because once again it left me questioning what’s the big difference. I mean it’s still jazzy, but it seems the brass has been left out to be a bit more different the the original. I guess it’s alright. I guess there’s also piano played in a jazzy kind of way. I think it’s pretty sweet.
I do like the upbeat nature of the entire single, but all 4 important tracks just were too similar in arrangement to really make it stand out from Mika’s discography. ONE SURVIVE was nice with it’s disco/jazz mix and TRUE EYES with it’s unorthodox instrument choicing, but the remixes didn’t stray away from the originals making it like a lazy attempt. Ok single, but she doesn’t need to have the same sounding songs together on a single.
