1. Take off

Let’s begin the album with an opening track (capsule much)?  Well, it kind of starts out with a countdown to our next track which is fitting, but y’know since this is Perfume’s first introductory track who ws really surprised that Take off, was gonna be short anyways?  Well….I guess it’s a good opening.

2. love the world

Yeah, hearing love the world on this album now, does make it sound pretty old like “GAME” old which is quite weird right?  I still have a lot of love for this track with it’s pop-like standards and such.  It still has a pretty sweet beat and the synths here sound so good with the girl’s vocals which are heavy on the vocoder and the flow is nice here.  Sweet ass song we have here.

3. Dream Fighter

2nd of the era, Dream Fighter pops up next and it’s kind of what did start the mehness of the era, Dream Fighter itself wasn’t a bad song persay but the vocal changes did sound a bit wonky to the listeners that really pay attention to them (my initial thought, were like, they sound oddly airy for being under vocoder….).  The beats here are more aggressive which is pretty cool, but the song also felt too short perhaps…hmm…still pretty good A-side for the era.

4. edge (⊿-mix)

edge got knocked up and had sexy babies.  Instead of fade in intro, the song actually starts off with a good start and the song really gets itself going.  It’s still our awesome song under all the new ribbons and what’s this it’s based off the extended version HELL YEAH!  They added a lot to edge and these new additions make the song sound even more epic and melodic in some ways??!?  Hands down this is by far the best track of the era and having the ⊿ symbol represent it, makes it even more epic!

5. NIGHT FLIGHT

Our first new track off the album is actually the first non-single track to be known as it was like “Secret Secret” a tie-in for Pino (bastards and their chocolate”.  Sadly, it didn’t have a PV to accompany it, but right next to “edge” this track totally pwns with it’s 8-bit like sounds and awesome verses.  Plus the chorus is so adorale with the whole ~Make a nice flight~ and ~Have a nice flight~…Album’s main shiner here…though what’s with the breakdown?  FREAKY

6. Kiss and Music

We reach our league of new tracks starting with the rather short, Kiss and Music which kind of sounds different from anything I’ve heard from them so far.  There’s actual singing going on and it’s quite interesting how the song sounds like a chill track, but has a slight touch of funk too….it’s quite new and I can’t quite decide if I like it because it is odd and different…hmmm

7. Zero Gravity

I was sorely saddened when I heard that Zero Gravity wasn’t going to be aggressive and hard like “GAME” was.  What we got though, we actually a return to their more pop-like sound ala back into their “GAME” days which is a nice homage to it, but at the same time I’m feeling somewhat bored with it.   I do like how Perfume is singing here, it’s not as harsh as it is sometimes…still the music sounds like something capsule would’ve used….Anyone find it funny, that the song is basically an antithesis of their past song “Inryoku”?

8. I still love U

Now we have the main promotional track to come in and well, from what people have said from the previews it does sound like something from the 80’s especially of what synths and rhythms are used here.  It’d be perfect for Tommy February6.  Sadly, the song suffers from higher pitched ouchies and well, the chorus isn’t the most exciting thing here on the album, but I do commend them for making the verses sound pretty cool.  Other than that the song sounds pretty cool from Nakata’s perspective lol….oooo I actually can see this song being more suited for MEG than Perfume…

9. The best thing

Ahhhh…The best thing actually is another song I was quite liking via the previews and I still quite like the full version.  I’m also noticing that they are saying ~Macaroni~ in the song which makes me wonder if this track is somehow paying an homage to “Macaroni” or something like that.  It’s one of the cleanest tracks off the album and definitely lived up to my expectations.

10. Speed of Sound

It’s so cool that “The best thing” actually leads up into Speed of Sound which is the song with the whole lyrics < music.  In some cases the song totally reminds me of the start of Ami’s “climb up to the top” and we know how that ended with all that yelling.  Luckily, it takes a more groovy take…then when the girls come in, they start to remind me of Ami’s “TEN” which is another oops factor gone into the song.  I’m sorry Nakata but you really screwed this up.  Leave the lounge style to your own girl, Toshiko….Perfume is not made for these kind of songs.

11. One Room Disco

Ending off the era was well….Considering that “love the world” and “Dream Fighter” were great tracks, ORD was kind of the meh that finished the era off.  It’s still pretty good don’t get me wrong, but it’s just that beginning that really kills the mood y’know.  You’d expect something really hard and then it becomes girlish electropop with a repetitive line that worked again….and IT’S THE SAME WORD ~disuko~….How they managed to do that again just scrambles my mind, but the song is catchy in an odd way.

12. Negai (Album-mix)

Basically you’re just going to add 10 seconds to add basically a piano and such to open the song?  Honestly, I was hoping to see this ballad get turned into a dance track, but I can live with the new sounds brought into the ballad B-side.  It actually gave it a more broader sound and it doesn’t sound as boring as the original…I still would’ve liked to have seen “23:30″ appear on the album, but this’ll do.

Tracks Recommended

  • edge (⊿-mix)
  • NIGHT FLIGHT
  • love the world
  • Dream Fighter
  • The best thing

Ok, is it bad that I think BEAUTIFUL was way better than this album, why yes.  I have no idea what happened with Perfume on this album, but this was a major letdown for me.  I mean…seriously all of the new tracks sounded like they were ripped from the other artists that worked with Nakata and that was hard to swallow like Speed of Sound and Zero Gravity, and even I still love U….others were just not good…Besides NIGHT FLIGHT, this album failed me in a bad way.  I had such high hopes just from the singles alone and then BAM…oh well, they better get their acts together for their 4th album

    AHAHAHAHA
OWNED. This album SUCKS. edge (Triangle-mix) is AMAZING, and there’s a few good tracks but LORD Perfume + real instruments or lounge is just the bottom of the pit. Good album, next time please.

I agree with what you are saying, but at the same time I really like this album. It’s just not Perfume. It’s very capsule-y… I really miss my old Perfume that were vocoded, but didn’t have a million of them shoved down their throats

And hey, this is the first thing i’ve read but I really like your blog and I will definitely keep reading!

Although it sounds more to the capsule side, i’m sure people still like the upcoming Triangle Album.

Sad to say, i only like a few songs from the Triangle album.
