1. Roudou Sanka
Roudou Sanka so sounds like some intro to some 70′s cop show for some reason and it really amuses me a lot! However, once the members come in under megaphone, they change the song just a bit so where it’s considered nice. The crazy amount of brass in the song caught my attention and I’m actually enjoying the vocals in the song than most of what I heard on “Battle and Romance”. A great start to the era!
2. Santa-san
I mean to open the song with the melody of “Jingle Bells” and use it for the melody of Santa-san is a bit unusual for an idol group to tackle but it sounds interesting since it doesn’t lead for all of the arrangement. Of course the girl’s vocals are kind sucky here which isn’t a surprise to me but I wasn’t expecting their Christmas song to be ridiculously cute. It sounds annoying to me (even the repetition of ~santa, santa, santa~ kind of kills me here!
3. BIONIC CHERRY
So like their last few singles, BIONIC CHERRY seems to be appointed to one version of the single. I will say that I approved of the fact that the song was more rock-influenced than the other two tracks so that’s a plus right? Though musically, it’s a bit cluttered and the rockin’ is just a bit messy even for me to warrant a reason to listen to it over and over.
If the group keeps releasing solid A-sides they might just rank up there one day with strongest idol group. However, those B-sides were just not my cup of tea and was too much of everything. Too cute in Santa-san and too messy in BIONIC CHERRY. I will say the latter did leave a better mark on me since it was rockin’ and strong! Roudou Sanka though was the best the single had to offer and that’s good at least right?
