Maniac★☆ Graham Massey Remix [808 State]
1. Maniac★☆
So the mini-album begins with well, the main promotional track which is oddly enough a rearrangement of their track before they officialized for this release. Maniac★☆ was actually more rock influenced before this rendition which is kind of odd. especially if the song’s main topic is like ~Synthesizer, synthesizer~. Now this version on the mini-album is actually quite the opposite more focused on the synths nd was resung as well and fixed the mishaps that were in the original. The main male singer, POCO also got the vocoder touch here and I quite like as it is a male under it, so it’s something somewhat new to the electro sounds.
2. Sorairo Neon
Ahhhh, Sorairo Neon is actually the next best thing because well, it doesn’t go too far on J-tek, but it’s quite calming and ethereal especially in the opening sections of the song. It also seems to combine their rock past with their new sound which works with me because it maks sense. They just made this song sound so right and I quite like it alot.
3. Shuumaimiimain
I’m not sure if the title is right, but hey this song brought back the guy’s rock sound back mixed in with a pretty steady dance beat. Now this is kind of like what “Maniac★☆’s” first version kind of sounded like but with a small guitar solo. It does stand out with it’s more rock sound, but otherwise it’s nothing to gasm about.
4. Imagination
Just like “Maniac★☆”, Imagination was also a track that was known before this mini-album and also went through some major arrangement changing before making it here. The original was a laidback track with actually low synth usage, but the lead guy, POCO was still under vocoder. I guess you could’ve called it a ballad actually…The new version on here though….kind of added unneeded synths and POCO got more vocoder on him which threw the song into a more interesting sound. I like the song, but I rather prefer the original over this one.
5. Nicorhythm
Then we get Nicorhythm the last new track off of here, it starts out wih a VGM kind of melody do it which is pretty sweet. I actually like this track alot because it’s easy and well not heavy on either their rock nor their electro sound which is such a good thing in this song. POCO does sound strained here and there going for higher notes, but I keep thinking of Nissy from AAA was singing this…it’s kind of freaky.
6. Maniac★☆ Graham Massey Remix [808 State]
Ending things off is a remix of the promotional track and well….At first I thought the ringing and bells everywhere were annoying me so much, but when the synths started to come in and replace it, I was happy, but the song felt oddly empty especially when in conjunction with POCO’s singing. Iono, but this remix to me just came off as messy.
At first, I was hoping this would’ve been an excellent release especially since Maniac★☆ was so damn good, but after listening to the album, I really only liked Maniac★☆, Sorairo Neon, and Nicorhythm….the rest were kind of meh to me. I’m pretty sure they’ll fix it, by their next release hopefully…Now for being one of two male groups with electro/rock as their genre (MOSH UNDER THE SUN) being the other, these guys are actually better.
