TOXIC (THE LOWBROWS Gimme Five remix)
HELLO, HELLO, HELLO, HELLO…This song is definitly a hot mess if there is one, but oddly enough it works. First off, it isn’t Nakata’s doing at all which is nice and she turned to UK group, Hadouken! for this track. FREAK does sound really similar to “That Boy That Girl” in the percussion department but that’s where the similarities end. The keyboards and basic strangeness are so catchy and MEG’s vocals fit pretty tight for this track. I love the ~freak freak freak on yoooou~ part. Definitly something new for MEG.
TOXIC seems to have a more synth based sound to it which is nice. Lyrically and vocally it reminds me of “FREAK” during the verses while the chorus is loud and in your face. TOXIC though doesn’t have much of a hook as the A-side did which is unfortunate, but I guess it’s an alright B-side.
3. TOXIC (THE LOWBROWS Gimme Five remix)
TOXIC’s remix actually takes the song’s beats and slows them down immensely while keeping up the vocals (which sound so much more cleaner and easier to understand). It did feel a little too strung along at first, but when the main stuff begins it’s really good. MEG’s vocals are in echo format and the synth are heavy and gritty. Then it sort-of ends and it comes blaring back with the chorus which is amazing. What a good remix.
MEG’s 1st single for her concept mini-album is pretty interesting. Not only we see MEG in a different light, we get some pretty interesting songs. FREAK is definitly amazing to listen to and even though TOXIC sounds a bit too much like it, it seems to be an OK B-side, but the remix is many different ideas into one and definitly was worth the listen.
