GIRL NEXT DOOR – Seeds of dream April 14, 2009

seeds-of-dream1

Track Listing

  1. Seeds of dream
  2. Reasons for tears
  3. Guuzen no Kakuritsu (Oh My Gold Mix)
  4. ESCAPE (ice cream remix)

1. Seeds of dream

Starting a new era fresh is all good and what not, but utilizing the same damn sounds is just poor and very unhealthy especially if GND is an anniversary group.  That being said, Seeds of dream is another “Drive away” which is terrible and the only thing that really stood out was the fact the synths were more important than the electric guitar.  So much for a new direction…CHISA is still sounding the same she has been through the first era.  Yelling and getting by barely…The breakdown in the middle was cool but shortlived…meh track.

2. Reason for tears

Luckily, Reason for tears is a darker tone which they haven’t shown much since “Guuzen no Kakuritsu” and to hear a new dark sounding track is great, but the chorus just destroyed any hope for the song.  It’s the same phrasing and mood as the other tracks.  I swear they are going to be stuck in rut for a long ass while if they dont change up their sound.

3. Guuzen no Kakuritsu (Oh My Gold Mix)

Guuzen no Kakuritsu’s remix starts out just like the original with the piano line, luckily it’s a eurobeat remix which takes out the blandness of the original and for being a track longer than 6 minutes and I actually found this to be the fresh air the song needs and I enjoyed it a lot.  It sounds a lot like some of Ayu’s remixes, but this pretty good.  Best track.

4. ESCAPE (ice cream mix)

Jeeze, this remix is so long.  Almost 9 minutes of music is torturous and it shows because likewise to the past “ice cream remixes” it starts to slow and it rarely changes pace or interest.  I do like how they worked her vocals into the music this time, but givin the fact that it’s so long just kind of makes me wanna pass the track and forget about it.

GND’s first single for this era is surprisingly bland on all levels.  If they keep doing this to the fans, I’m sure they’ll forget about them altogether.  Seeds of dream is a little better at representing itself, but falls short because it is “Drive away pt. 2”.  Reason for tears had potential to be really good, but falls short with a very boring chorus line.  The remixes were ok, I liked Guuzen’s more than ESCAPE’s because it wasn’t horribly drawn out.  Iono…this direction is going to put them in a very bad state if they keep on this.

OLIVIA – Sailing free

sailingfree

Track Listing

  1. Sailing free
  2. Love Love Love
  3. Undress

1. Sailing free

I actually thought this was going to be ballad A-side.  Wasn’t that dashed pretty fast when the song turned into a pretty hard rock track.  Then again after pop-like “Trinka Trinka”, this was a nice reprisal of her awesome rock sound that she’s recently incorporating.   OLIVIA singing is sometimes hard to listen to, but her energy through the song is awesome.  I thought this was a great track.

2. Love Love Love

Love Love Love though was what I was expecting.  A ballad track.  Now here is where I start to cringing because her vocals are really squeaky and kind of annoying.  Sadly the song seems to drag on as time goes by, but the strings solo and such is awesome.  Not a good B-side.

3. Undress

Undress falls into the middle because it’s slower than Sailing free, but it’s not boring.  I’m also not really enjoying her odd vocals here, but she’s showing more interest in this track than she did in “Love Love Love”.  Maybe I’ll give it a few more listens, but right now I’m not enjoying the song one bit.

OLIVIA’s 1st single for a new era just didn’t cut it for me.  Sailing free was pretty good despite the fact she’s pulling off the weird vocal ability.  Love Love Love and Undress took that and made it worst in my opinion.  Her vocals were just too failure for me but Sailing free is a need to hear track!

BREAKERZ – Everlasting Luv/BAMBINO

Track Listing

  1. Everlasting Luv
  2. BAMBINO
  3. Nanzenkai…Nanmankai…~Acoustic Version~

1. Everlasting Luv

Already from the starting point, this track is exciting and such.  DAIGO sounds so anxious to just start screaming, like what he’s doing.  I love how they added strings to some parts of the song to make things especially more exciting.  The 3 members singing together is pretty cool and they harmonize pretty well for a rock song.

2. BAMBINO

BAMBINO definitly takes the rock sound and spices things up with a latin sound that totally took the song to a new level.  I really don’t know what they word, Bambino means but it made a pretty catchy chorus.  Pretty good A-side to share it’s side with “Everlasting Luv”

3. Nanzankai…Nanmankai…~Acoustic Version~

Originally from their 2nd album, “CRASH & BUILD” I have yet to hear the original soooo…I’m just basing off of what I’m getting from this.  The version is definitly deviod of the harder sounds of the other two tracks which is a nice surprise.  DAIGO sounds really nice all by himself though, I’m pretty sure the other guys had solo parts, but I can clearly hear him.  Sometimes DAIGO pushes his vocals to some odd positions creating a icky part…mostly it was good.

BREAKERZ 2nd single for their new era was a little less memorable than “GRAND FINALE”, but it wasn’t terrible at the least.  The A-sides were rockin hard are pretty catchy, but it lacked a true interest.  Definitly far from said single.  The acoustic version of a past song was an interesting take ans I wonder what the original will sound like.
