Track Listing

  1. Kimi ga Iru Kagiri
  2. All the Way
  3. ANGEL GIRL

1. Kimi ga Iru Kagiri

Oh what the hell? 0.o  That was an amazingly high note opening to this track.  It’s funny that it’s the only time you really hear her use that amazingly high note though.  Other than that, Kimi ga Iru Kagiri is your typical J-pop ballad which doesn’t exactly mean anything to me.  It’s nice, but it’s like mirroring how alan showed off her mountain notes in “Ashita e no Sanka”.  Both wanted to start off their careers on a high note (literally).  It’s alright for a ballad though.  Stephanie though does have a good voice on her though….hmm….

2. All the Way

As a surprise, Stephanie decided to go rock on us for the first B-side and even though it’s like hearing Kylee singing, Stephanie doesn’t really have any problems with singing in this style and I kind of prefer this over “Kimi ga Iru Kagiri”.  It’s a pretty rad song in other words LOL

3. ANGEL GIRL

However, when Steph gets into the pop side of things, she kind of screws up royally.  It’s like super-duper cheesy and I rather not listen to Steph doing these kind of things.  The music is fine, it’s just her lines in English makes me shudder because of the corniness going on.  I liked her voice except the whole ~I’ll be your girl~ lines.  I guess it can be enjoyed, but in long intervals.  She’s definitly channeling Mariah Carey in this song, how funny is that?

Stephanie’s debut single was nice actually.  I was actually on ends to see if I liked her and the only track I really listened to was 3rd A-side, “Winter Gold”.  I think Stephanie can have a pretty good career, because I’m liking what I’m hearing so far

Aya Ueto – way to heaven

waytoheaven

Track Listing

  1. way to heaven
  2. Owari ni Shou
  3. Shimokita Ijou Harajuku Miman (French Bossa Version)
  4. way to heaven ~Instrumental~

1. way to heaven

This is so very surprising.  When I first heard of Aya Ueto, she was this kickass chick with a sword.  Then I got into her single, this way just jaw-dropping and definitly something I wouldn’t have though she’d do at all.  It’s very upbeat and poppy.  Aya’s vocals are pretty expressive, even though they aren’t the better vocals.  There’s a little bit of a jazz influence as well which is pretty cool.  Other than that, I feel like she’s had way better tracks.

2. Owari ni Shou

Owari ni Shou on the other hand, definitly reminds me of something from the Final Fantasy series.  It starts out dark with low thumps and not a lot on the arrangement.  Then Aya comes in and radiates the song a lot which is so nice.  I liked her a lot more singing in this song than in “way to heaven”.  It’s something I love to hear in a ballad and is quickly becoming something I really enjoy.

3. Shimokita Ijou Harajuku Miman (French Bossa Version)

So this track is a bunch of things.  First, it’s a cover of a track that Aya was on and second it’s a remix of the song she covered back on her Best-of.  Now since that’s outta the way.  Shimokita Ijou Harajuku Miman here is a lot more calming than the other songs which is cool.  It’s light bossa nova sound is just what this song needed IMO and Aya’s calm vocals are sweet and cute at the sane time.  DAMN, so good.

Aya Ueto’s first single for a new era was surprising in many ways.  way to heaven showed off her poppy side in full fashion and surprised me a lot.  Owari ni Shou took the cake for being such a moving ballad and yet containing some darker undertones in it.  The remix however was just the thing I needed and is an awesome touch to the single!!!

Kou Shibasaki – Prism

prism

Track Listing

  1. Prism
  2. Polka Dot
  3. Sukoshizutsu
  4. Prism (Back Track)

1. Prism

Kou begins another era with a very nice A-side.  It starts out with a few piano chords being played before added strings are thrown into the mix. Kou sings pretty quietly and in a nice calm tone to make things so peaceful.  It isn’t until the chorus where the music comes to the front and things get upbeat and ever better.  I love the plucked strings in the background and there’s some bubbly sounds as well.  I think it’s pretty amazing song in fact.  She really pulled some great strings for this song.

2. Polka Dot

It’s interesting how things change.  Polka Dot, is definitly an R&B track because of all of the different rhythms and intricacies going around in the song.  It is because of that that Kou here sounds a little bit lost within the song and kind of sounds a bit too messy.  She gives an alright performance, but it’s the rhythm that’s throwing everything off.

3. Sukoshizutsu

Luckily the fixed that up into our second B-side.  The beat isn’t as crazy as before and Kou is sounding super.  The quick beats are nice in contrast with the piano/synth going on in the song and makes for a better track overall.  I can really get into this track actually hahaha.

Kou Shibasaki really scored some love points from me with this single.  Prism shows that Kou can really deal with changing tempos in the track and how she sang was amazing IMO.  Sukoshizutsu is also another great track, it sounds like Kuu’s earlier stuff, but Kou can actually pull it off without sounding boring xD.  Polka Dot though was a bit too messy to be cohesive, so I’d watch out for that if I were you

Aki Misato – BLOOD QUEEN

Track Listing

  1. BLOOD QUEEN
  2. Boukyaku Butterfly
  3. BLOOD QUEEN (Off Vocal)
  4. Boukyaku Butterfly (Off Vocal)

1. BLOOD QUEEN

Going by just the title alone, I would’ve guessed the song would’ve been a darker track than normal and in this case I’m right.  Her voice sounds pretty quiet against the darker guitar riffs that were going.  Aki’s vocals reminds me of Nana Kitade’s but just not amazingly shrill as hers.  This song definitly has a pretty cool thing going on for her and I quite like it.  Good song.

2. Boukyaku Butterfly

I didn’t expect Boukyaku Butterfly to sound so…..Irish…BB decided to go for a more lighthearted sound to go against “BLOOD QUEEN’s” more darker sound.  It starts out with a synthy opening and the main track is basically acoustically driven which is nice, but seemed very random on here.  Just when the synths play, is when I get the feeling of being Irish.  Strange lol.

Aki Misato’s first single for this new era was pretty cool, I’ll have to agree.  BLOOD QUEEN was a nice dark sound to hear from her, but it’s not like Asriel dark.  Boukyaku Butterfly was definitly a WTF moment, but it’s light and easy to just smile along and listen with.  Pretty good single.
