Track Listing

  1. KiSS KiSS xxx
  2. WoNDeRLaND?
  3. Smells Like Teen Spirit
  4. ChaNge the WoRLd [Remix]

1. KiSS KiSS xxx

I’m starting to feel the lack of anything original happening with MiChi’s music.  The good thing is that the song is a bit better than the last A-side and even though it’s basically “PROMiSE” pt. 2, MiChi gave a pretty good vocal performance and I really love the English lines spread across the song.  I found it even funnier that the song starts out with ~MiChi Madness~

2. WoNDeRLaND?

Oddly this track was the first song to be known of before the singles release.  I have to say this is one strange song.  I’m always into her B-side moreso than the A-sides and this is something fresh and yet strange.  It’s got heavy synths and harmonica spread out and even though the chorus is one to chant with, this song isn’t terrible.  Once I listen through, I keep thinking she’s looking for a guy but that’s just me.

3. Smells Like Teen Spirit

If you recognize the song, it’s because it’s a cover of that oh so famous Nirvana hit.  It’s just too strange hearing a woman singing a guy’s song even scarier is the fact that it had to be the biggest song of the early 90’s.  MiChi does sound pretty good, but it just doesn’t have the punch the original did nor the chorus was all that powerful.  The verses were good though.  Strange cover….

4. ChaNge the WoRLd [Remix]

Like what’s been going on through the singles, the last A-side also gets a remix and oddly enough, it’s kind of weird.  It starts off horribly because it was slow and some rapper guy just comes in at random times.  When the tempo picks up, that’s where things get really good.  It’s got a heavy trance style and MiCHi’s vocals are messed with, purposely raising her pitch up and down.

MiChi’s 3rd single honestly was so much better than “ChaNge the WoRLd” because everything seemed to just fit right and KiSS KiSS xxx was definitly the better A-side even though shes starting to get a little stale at this point.  WoNDeRLaND? is something new and caught my attention really well.  MiChi should stick to female covers because her Nirvana cover was a bit weak, and I guessed it right too.  The remix is awesome despite the beginning.

Track Listing

  1. Kazemachi Jet
  2. Spica
  3. Kazemachi Jet (w/o Maaya)
  4. Spica (w/o Maaya)

1. Kazemachi Jet

Ok, Kazemachi Jet sounds definitly different than I’m used to hearing.  What got me instantly was how nice Maaya’s vocals were and then hearing the more lively sound of the song filled in eventually.  Her high notes are pretty good most of the time, but other times it leaves thinking that she needs tuning.  I’ll say it’s a pretty cute song with the woodwind/guitar line…it’s pretty good.

2. Spica

Spica first starts out pretty upbeat like “Kazemachi Jet”, but then it quiets down pretty quickly into a ballad with a shuffling sound in the background with piano and strings.  Maaya’s vocals are clean and not full of issues like a few other artists I do.  The song is pretty nice and I thought was better than the other A-side.

Maaya’s first single for the “Kazeyomi” era was pretty soothing and yet relaxing to listen to.  I don’t really see any major problems with this single as both are great tracks, but the sad part is that Spica doesn’t get on “Kazeyomi” despite being an A-side  *cries*

futuristicimagination

Track Listing

  1. futuristic imagination
  2. flat
  3. you may crawl ~Takkyu Ishino Remix~

1. futuristic imagination

school food punishment’s debut single under a major label is actually quite cool and yet fresh at the same time.  I mean instead of having a full on rock style going on like other girl fronted bands, they seem more like an upbeat Nichika.  Yumi sounds quite nice, even though her vocals are a bit harsh sometimes, futuristic imagination showed off the bands nice style and is a pretty good song allaround.

2. flat

flat actually sounds more original with it’s stepping beat and it’s a lot of staccatos placed throughout making it more an abstract track.  Yumi actually sounds pretty soothing here and the ethereal bridge accented that idea well.  The bits with the 8-bit sounds weren’t amazingly overused and sound pretty nice with the bands playing.  Great B-side.

3. you may crawl ~Takkyu Ishino Remix~

If you don’t recognize the track, you may crawl was originally a track off their 2nd indies mini-album, “air feel, color swim”.  Now I haven;t heard the original so I can’t base an opinion fully.  I’m surprised for a band that has pop/rock sound, I didn’t expect a more house like track to fill its place.  The beat is pretty cool, but everything is so repetitive it’s hard to really get into it.  For being ambient music though, this sounds great and fits into it.

Alright, school food punishment is definitly something I needed to hear and futuristic imagination was a pretty awesome single.  It showed what the future can hold for the group and both the A-side and B-side are pretty good representations.  The remix is a bit too drawn out and repetitive, but it’s not that bad of a remix if it’s just for the music.
