school food punishment – light prayer December 5, 2009

  3. sea-through communication-sung in English with symphony-

1. light prayer

Ahhh, light prayer…It definitely shows the group is getting more better with each A-side and I’m loving light prayer.  There’s just a lot of intricate moments that make the song stand out.  I think the best thing is the heavy amount of piano in the song, this is definitely going back to their indies days and I love it.

2. deviswitch

Like I keep saying, school food punishment’s B-sides haven been heavily treading on new grounds, but it seems they’ve held back this time around with deviswtich.  It’s not bad at all though since it fits with the title being a darker tune and has a lot of edgy things going on mostly with Yumi’s vocals and her guitar playing.  It’s wild and cool, definitely a great B-side.

3. sea-through communication-sung in English with symphony-

While, I wouldn’t classify this as a remix, it’s more of a rearranged version of their last A-side.  The first thing is the more graceful arrangement of the song which is totally different from anything I’ve heard from them thus far, even better Yumi resung the song in English which is awesome as well.  I gotta say, they’ve been getting better with their 3rd tracks, great tune.

I’m wondering when we’ll get an album release from the group, light prayer was definitely a nostalgic run here since the A-side was a lot like most of their stuff in their indies.  deviswitch, while it wasn’t too experimental like the other B-sides, it focused more on being really good and it worked.  The new version of sea-through communication though was what should’ve been released IMO and left the original to be a remix or something.

SHANADOO – Love Space Ship/World’s End Supernova

Track Listing

  1. Love Space Ship
  2. World’s End Supernova

1. Love Space Ship

Love Space Ship is rather an interesting song because of the electro smoothness it has.  It feels nice when compared to other electro-pop songs since while it’s smooth the vocals are a bit quick-paced.  Even then you really don’t get to hear or able to tell who’s who since the girls are in both vocoder & auto-tune which is a bummer, but the song is really nice and can be considered cute.

2. World’s End Supernova

I kind of like the synths that open this next track which is a cover song, I think.  It’s got that same ethereal flow that “Love Space Ship” had and still carries this cute side that I enjoy.  Still, it might come off as a little monotonous as time goes by, but the music keeps it going.

The digital single leading into “Launch Party!!!”, Love Space Ship/World’s End Supernova” is great since it not only brings avex an electropop unit, it totally made them better because SHANADOO is an Eurodance group elsewhere, so it’s nice to not get that with this group.  The album is already out, but no one has leaked it, so I thought it’d be nice to review this beforehand.

S/mileage – Suki-chan

Track Listing

  1. Suki-chan
  2. Suki-chan (Instrumental)

1. Suki-chan

If it means anything, Suki-chan feels like it should’ve been someone else’s song like Guardians 4 or something.  At least it sounds really good because the song isn’t too cheery or cheesy and the girls sound really energetic and happy.  I still can’t really tell between the four members but they are a little more genki than previous tracks.  Interesting.

I’m wondering what direction the group is going still, as Suki-chan is the final indies single for the group, it’s definitely more like the peppier H!P tracks and it’s pretty good.  Still not as good as “aMa no Jaku”, but it’s better than the last single IMO.
