1. Nihon no Mikata -Nevada Kara Kimashita-

Hey, it’s very appropriate to begin this light-hearted album with the group’s first single.  Nihon no Mikata definitely kicked off the group in a very shocking and hilarious way.  I mean damn, it was pretty big in Japan because you get 3 hilarious people together and make them crossdress and make them do disco music and with Nihon no Mikata they pulled it off and did it amazingly.  Nihon no Mikata is a great way to start things off since it’s so damn catchy!

2. Megami no Chikara

I guess to make things weird, we go straight from their debut single into their most recent single.  To be quite honest, while it is still pretty good and such it doesn’t have that same spark the previous 3 singles had, but I do commend on getting vocally better and I’m finding myself enjoying the song’s fun and more interesting arrangement.  It doesn’t really lean on a hook so that’s another thing that pulled the song away from the previous 3 singles.

3. YAZIMA Tamashii -Okayui Tokoro wa Gozaimasen ka-

We get into our first new song off the album, YAZIMA Tamashii seems to be there theme song of sorts and I think I’ve heard this used in the CM for the group’s movie which is coming out soon!  Once again I’m sort of impressed by Noritake and OZMA’s vocals in the song and I’m kind of noticing that Takaaki wasn’t heard fully until the 2nd verse.  Compared to the 4 songs heard previously, I thought this was pretty awesome of a song and really gave the guy’s such a nice song to sound good….well maybe not for OZMA, his vocals cracks up somewhat in some parts.

4. mama ni Zettai Koishiteru

There’s a little backstory with this tune.  See Takaaki’s character has an obsession on the father, but I’m not sure what the reason entirely is, but I think it’s one of those songs is like sentimental and stuff.  That being said, it’s prolly one of the more serious songs and mid-tempo tunes as well.  It’s got this feeling of just being happy and swaying with the song.  Hmmm, I might be liking this song quite a bit

5. Ichigo Tsubutsubu ROCK’N’ROLL

On the album the 3 members get their own solo tune starting with Takaaki’s solo.  It begins with Takaaki talking a little bit before getting into this 60’s pop/rock diner sound that’s pretty fast and depends on fastly sung lyrics and other such abnormalities.  I found it funny that they slowed the song immensely for this slow passage before speeding back up.  While I’ll admit Takaaki is definitly not a singer, I do give him credit for trying.

6. Naomi no Yume

Next we get OZMA’s solo and since he’s the only that has had singing experience pre-YAZIMA, it was interesting how this was actually going to turn out.  Actually Naomi’s song reminds me of those psychedelico songs because it sounds ripped from something that could’ve been used in Scooby Doo.  While once again, he’s not that amazing of a singer, it sounded a lot more cleaner and was actually fun to listen to.  I liked it quite alot!

7. Tsume no Saki Made Anata Datta

So we run into Noritake’s solo track and I was surprised that Naomi’s song wasn’t an actual ballad unlike this song which is a typical movie theme ballad.  Get the drums, strings, and piano and it’s basically what you got it.  It’s strange that I really like Noritake’s vocals because they always stand out in YAZIMA’s songs for being so deep and actually in tune.  That being said, he pulled this song off quite nicely and even though the guitar solo sounds uber weird, I still think it’s pretty good.

8. Hamaguri Bomber

Back into full group songs now, we also go back and finish the previous songs that were released starting with single 3: Hamaguri Bomber.  I think the thing that made the song stand out was the mix of latin, jazz, and disco rolled into one and the fact the chorus is one of the most catchiest lines they’ve had.  Oddly enough, I think they might’ve let themselves go since at places it becomes muddled and too much from them.  It might be my least favorite of the era, but it’s still pretty good nonetheless.

9. SAKURA -Haru wo Uta wa Nevada-

Oh yeah the SAKURA song!  This was actually the first song that I listened to, even before “Nihon no Mikata”.  While it’s still overdrowning in disco awesomeness, it’s pretty catchy and has some of the best clapping parts and solos that none of the other songs have…well, “YAZIMA Tamashii” can argue about the solos.  Still my favorite single of the era so nothing can really kick this song’s ass XD  I still think the jazz part towards the end was just the awesomeness this song needed and made it such a blast.

10. Nihonjin ni Naritai

The longest song off the album, I didn’t expect Nihonjin ni Naritai to be so, Supremes-ish even though the group is a parody off those kind of groups.  OZMA does have a bigger role in the song and he sounds rather nasally for someone in this song.  Takaaki though sounds better than his solo song which is a plus and to we even need to question Noritake.  The song is a tad slower than previous songs so that should tell you something.

11. MURI -Jitsu wa Eigo ga Hanasenai-

Ending off this rollercoaster of a ride, MURI is hilariously is something that was so last minute and gave this 70’s feel that shouldn’t be surprising.  I kind of lol’ed at the members actually trying  to rap across the song.  It’s kind of the oddball of the album since it’s hard to really remember much from the song, but at least it’s hit right?

Song of Avoidance

  • Ichigo Tsubutsubu ROCK’N’ROLL

Wow, maybe the 2nd album of the year to impress me (unless La Vita Romantica doesn’t count since it is a best-of_ then it’s my first album of the year to truly impress me.  YAZIMA Beauty Salon’s first album surprised me at how it could keep me going.  While solo songs aren’t their strong points the group work is what brought the album together and it’s great for that rather “nostalgic” feel since their music goes all over the eras like wildfire.  It’s definitely an album that came out of nowhere and I loved it *RECOMMENDED*

I really liked your review ^^

Just to point a little thing, Tunnels actually have singing experience, and a lot, more than 15 albums and 30 singles: http://www.tnlounge.net/disco.asp
