BONNIE PINK – Kite September 22, 2010

Track Listing

  1. Kite
  2. Busy-Busy-Bee
  3. Kite (Instrumental)
  4. Busy-Busy-Bee (Instrumental)

1. Kite

I’m surprised that when I turned Kite on to listen it for the first time that Kite sounded like something Owl City would’ve made because of those synths that were used.  I do like that the song is memorable and Kaori sounds really nice except how she pulls the ~I’m a kite, I’m a kite~ that sounds weird to me.  Otherwise, this song sounds really good even though I’m still thrown off by the Owl City synths.

2. Busy-Busy-Bee

As for the B-side that’s not going to make it on “Dear Diary”, Busy-Busy-Bee has a more rock-styled arrangement that follows some of the stuff found on “ONE”.  Also produced by Burning Chicken, I was expecting something that was going to be good, but for the most part I found myself bored with the song.  “You & I” still rolls all over this.  I’m not sure why I don’t like but I think it’s this whole ~busy busy bee~ line that’s said more than enough times in the song.

As the only physical release prior to “Dear Diary”, Kite is better than her last single “Joy/Happy Ending” simply because this single wasn’t a ballad single, that’s for sure.  Kite stills throws me off with the whole “Fireflies” feeling I get from it kind of sends me somewhere else.  Busy-Busy-Bee kind of was nice, but got annoying after a while with it…Still overall in the era, she definitely went in different directions with all the songs (including the digital singles) and I enjoyed it.

How is it that Bonnie’s four last years make up the most protracted failure of her career? Had to be blunt because from ‘Anything For You’ on down her music doesn’t last a moment with me. ‘Pump it Up!’ is the most enduring tune from this era which nonetheless is a sad sentiment.

P.S. Kudos to you reviewing! XD

True, and she’s had like quirky good songs like Pump It Up!, You & I, Princess Incognito and Rock You Till The Dawn….but yeah I agree…I can never seem to remember the other songs off the top of my head
