GIRL NEXT DOOR – Unmei no Shizuku ~Destiny’s star~/Hoshizora Keikaku December 21, 2010

Track Listing

  1. Unmei no Shizuku ~Destiny’s star~
  2. Hoshizora Keikaku
  3. Hoshizora Keikaku ~Merry X’mas thanks daddy ver.~
  4. Be your wings (Hi-NGR Attack Remix)
  5. FRIENDSHIP (BE MY FRIENDS Remix)

1. Unmei no Shizuku ~Destiny’s star~

Wow, the beginning for Unmei no Shizuku was surprising since it consisted of strings and strong vocals from CHISA.  Of course it starts going into the main arrangement after a while and the beat of the song kind of resembles “Shiawase no Jouken” and “Climber’s high” since it’s energetic and has a lot of punch to it, but has the same amount of synth usage throughout.  I’m still on the fence with this song since it does kind of sound good, but at the same time it’s too plain and sounds too familiar, but I shouldn’t bitch bout that XD

2. Hoshizora Keikaku

As it’s the second A-side, Hoshizora Keikaku to me sounds just like a GND-ish Winter song and we’ve covered that back last year with “Orion”.  However, I do love the energy on this one a little bit more than “Unmei no Shizuku” despite poor vocals.  To me this resembles a bit much like “Seeds of dream” and “Ready to be a lady”.  It’s just very difficult to swallow, but at least it’s another happy-go-lucky tune.

3. Hoshizora Keikaku ~Merry X’mas thanks daddy ver.~

So we get into three remixes for the single, Hoshizora Keikaku is definitely more Christmas themed for our first one and moreso since the lyrics are also slightly different to feed into the seasonal theme.  To me the song has got more guitar-ladened.  It’s not so bad since the song feels more festive, but I think I prefer the original slightly more.

4. Be your wings (Hi-NRG Attack Remix)

I don’t think there has been a good remix of Be your wings, but I definitely approve of this since it sounds like some of Ayu’s or m.o.v.e’s older remixes and it’s great to see the uprising of them.  While it does take the GND-ness of the original out and replaced it with more of a eurotrance feel, I think it sounds good even though the melody is kind of hard to follow along.  It’s a bit long though at 6 minutes though so…..hahaha.

5. FRIENDSHIP (BE MY FRIENDS Remix)

The other remix going to one of the other A-sides released in their previous era, FRIENDSHIP has changed into more of a mid-tempo eurotrance tune, but also sounds a whole lot more serious than in its original format.  I don’t like it as much as I did with the “Be your wings” remix, but this does beat out a lot of previous ones though.

I’m at a standstill with GND’s 3rd single of the era, it seems that they’re declining on the singles since they began it with “Freedom”.  I think Unmei no Shizuku was supposed to be their “epic” song, but it kind of feels shorthanded and they have better songs IMO to have taken that spot (“Infinity” anyone?).  Hoshizora Keikaku is alright, but once again much better and happier songs from them, though I will give them credit for the Christmas-y remix they put on.  The other two remixes are definitely better ones they’ve had though as well.  Good single, but I’m wondering what the album or potential 4th single will bring.

Miho Fukuhara – Regrets of Love

Filed under: Miho Fukuhara — solarblade @ 6:30 am

Track Listing

  1. Regrets of Love
  2. Forget
  3. Milk 2010 with Chara
  4. You Give Me Something
  5. Your Story

1. Regrets of Love

Starting with a melancholic piano opening, Regrets of Love is definitely fitting for a deep song about well what else right?  I love the heavy thumping that’s the beat of the song.  It’s pretty awesome that it’s a strong song to start the mini-album, and Miho’s vocals are quiet epic.  It’s definitely like something Alicia Keys would approve of since it just has the soulful and strong presence.  Amazing song right here.

2. Forget

I love the our next song changes radically in sound from an R&B track into an acoustic song and even moreso an all English track.  Miho’s English is clear-cut and easy to follow and she keeps her soul in the song which is amazing to listen to.  However, it doesn’t have as much of an emotional impact that “Regrets of Love” had, but it’s not so bad.  Different and reminds me a bit of the last era.

3. Milk 2010 with Chara

So the story with this is that Milk is originally Chara’s tune which was released way back in 2007.  Miho is covering the song, but collaborating with Chara as well in the song.  Of course I’ve said before that Chara’s vocals kind of bother me in the wrong way, but Miho did great covering the song and she clearly tries to cover up Chara’s throaty vocals.  The music is back to more of an R&B-like style, but it’s chill and calm.  Not as bad as I thought it’d would be.

4. You Give Me Something

As another cover, this time a James Morrison tune, You Give Me Something is also another all English track and while I haven’t heard the original, it’s definitely something I would hear on American Radio.  It’s a good and pleasant song from Miho and she pulls it off graciously and strongly hmmmm.

5. Your Story

Ending the mini-album, we get an orchestral piece from Miho and like the last one “No More Cry”, Your Story is very sad to listen to, but the simplicity really will get to you because of the pure fact the lyrics are just painful yet heartwarming.  It feels short, but damn did it make a big impact…perfect way to close the mini-album.

After the minor disappointment in “Music is My Life”, Regrets of Love was definitely something Miho needed.  I loved all the songs that were present on the mini-album and Miho’s vocals are still amazing and I’m surprised at how she improved immensely on her English skills so that’s also a plus.  Very Impressive here! *RECOMMENDED*
