1. Everyday, Katyusha
By going of the cover, it seems this song is going to be the summer song from the mega-group which I remember the nightmares I got from their last one, “Ponytail to Chouchou”. This one actually sounds relatively different and good enough to stand out from the other A-sides since it feels like a Russian tune, especially the arrangement in the beginning. It does make me think that their producer took notes from Tsunku’s “Onna to Otoko no Lullaby Game”. Sadly, after a while the song gets repetitive and is way too long for its own good. It’s better than “Chance no Junban” though XD
2. Korekara Wonderland
The main B-side found on all singles, Korekara Wonderland really pulls you into the past with it’s 70’s Soul music and I actually found it oddly cute and yet so much easier to swallow than friggin “Everyday, Katyusha”. The vocals are also much much better for some reason as well which gives the song a better chance. Why this wasn’t an A-side beats me but this is so much better.
3. Yankee Soul
I’m not sure what to really classify Yankee Soul for some reason. It’s lacks the vocal prowess that “Korekara Wonderland”, but it retains the fun atmosphere in a great way. It’s interesting nonetheless, but there’s something that doesn’t feel very AKB here…but more H!P oddly enough. I guess it’s an alright song, but nothing like the previous track.
4. Hito no Chikara
The other B-sides are from other areas of the AKB family. Hito no Chikara comes to us from the Undergirls and it seems they also got the short end of the stick on the single because this has the least amount going on in the arrangement. It does feel like oldies, but not sure of what timeline really. It does seem like it could be catchy in intervals. Though why am I hearing male background vocalists???
team Kenkyuusei also gets a track with Anti and funny how it’s even cuter than “Everyday, Katyusha” and yet it’s a bit better than said track as well. It doesn’t seem as positive as it should, but I like the way it flows. Guitars are awesome and so are synths. Vocal-wise…I’m struggling to decide if they are that good or on the line of being meh. Not bad…
Even though this isn’t on their upcoming album, “Koko ni Ita Koto” (album was pushed back because of the Japan earthquake), Everyday, Katyusha isn’t really that amazing, but I wasn’t really expecting it to be really because summer songs done by idol groups aren’t that amazing. I think Korekara Wonderland and Anti were the best to offer but not as strong as some of their other works. That leaves us with Yankee Soul and Hito no Chikara and while they weren’t amazing, they did bring new styles for the single so I guess that’s ok. I’m guessing our next single will be something amazing! I HOPE!
