Morning Musume – Only you June 16, 2011

Track Listing

  1. Only you
  2. Yamete yo! Sinbad
  3. Only you (Instrumental)

1. Only you

After the Kyuukie’s introduction with “Maji Desu ka Ska!” I wasn’t sure what direction Tsunku was going to take with his flagship group and with Only you…it only confused me so much more.  Let’s go through the weird stuff.  The first thing that caught me off guard with the abstract verses and even stranger transitions through the song.  It was so odd and members were shooting lyrics left and right haha.  Next was that Riho got tons of solo lines over and the rest of the Kyuukies just got ignored for the most part and that was a little shady…but it was clear that Riho is a favorite.  Last but not least was Risa getting auto-tuned…wait WHAT?!?  I might not like her much, but her deeper vocals recently has been catching my attention and hearing her under auto-tune is just wtf.  Otherwise, this song is quite energetic and has been compared to “Shouganai Yume Oibito”…but alas I don’t see the connection much but I oddly find myself enjoying the song no matter how jagged it is altogether.

2. Yamete yo! Sinbad

I kind of was surprised that the B-side of the single was pretty upbeat and more genki than the A-side.  The solid fact that it’s not as all over the place as “Only you” is pretty good, but unfortunately it suffers from the whole H!P bland B-side curse that happens every so often.  I do wonder who’s leading (prolly Ai and Reina…).  Oh well….

While it’s the second of the era, Only you is quite the oddball of Momosu songs with it’s weird time changes and overall strangeness that’s abound.  Yamete yo! Sinbad is a little easier to swallow, but kind of meh after their last one.  I guess one single left before Takitty graduates and 10th Gen enters…

SUPER☆GiRLS – MAX! Otomegokoro/Happy GO Lucky! ~Happy☆Lucky de Go!~

Track Listing

  1. MAX! Otomegokoro
  2. Happy GO Lucky! ~Happy☆Lucky de Go!~
  3. Kira Pure POWER! ~Cheer Up! ver.~ (Limited Event CD only)
  4. Original CD Drama “SUPER☆GiRLS Chouzetsu Gakuen School Days Collection Natsu Dare ga Idol!?” (CD Radio Drama only)
  5. MAX! Otomegokoro (Instrumental)
  6. Happy GO Lucky! ~Happy☆Lucky de Go!~ (Instrumental)

1. MAX! Otomegokoro

I kind of was surprised that that SUPER☆GiRLS’s second single would be the typical idol summer song but honestly, this isn’t that bad to be honest since it’s catchy and so genki to listen to.  I’m still a little concerned on the vocals because they are a little off the mark most of the song and there’s a lot of note collisions during the verses and chorus.  Otherwise, it’s an interesting song and fitting for the season.

2. Happy GO Lucky! ~Happy☆Lucky de Go!~

For such a hyperactive title above, you’d think it’d be ten times genki than “MAX! Otomegokoro” but it really isn’t.  I mean it’s still upbeat and has a lot more going on in the arrangement, but the overall mood is a lot more streamlined and the girls slightly worked on getting their voices in a better melodic form.  It’s slightly better than the other A-side, but only slightly.

As this is the group’s second single, MAX! Otomegokoro/Happy GO Lucky! was an upgrade after their first one for sure but they still have a little ways to go to become something really good because I can see the blips of awesomeness with MAX! Otomegokoro being their summer song and Happy GO Lucky is the more reserved song.  It’s alright I guess overall…but I wonder what the new version of Kira Pure POWER sounds like….

Shoko Nakagawa – Tsuyogari

Filed under: Shoko Nakagawa — solarblade @ 4:20 am

Track Listing

  1. Tsuyogari
  2. Hoshikuzu Romance
  3. Dangerous wild, you are!
  4. Tsuyogari (TV Edit)
  5. Tsuyogari -Instrumental-
  6. Hoshikuzu Romance -Instrumental-
  7. Dangerous wild, you are! -Instrumental-
  8. Tsuyogari (TV Edit) -Instrumental-

1. Tsuyogari

I’m a little disappointed once again that Tsuyogari continues the tradition of rock songs in her repertoire, but this one feels more cuter and livelier than “Sakurairo” was to be honest.  I’m finding myself enjoying Shokotan’s vocals a little more as well since it’s upbeat and energetic like it should be.  It isn’t as serious as other rock songs she has and this fits with them quite well.

2. Hoshikuzu Romance

I think the first B-side is an interesting tune from Shokotan for some reason.  It’s not like previous B-sides at all because it’s more poppish than her stuff recently.  I like Shoko’s relaxed vocals here as well since she sounds a lot better to me than in “Tsuyogari”.  It does remind me of something in her debut era but I think that’s good thing.

3. Dangerous wild, you are!

Besides the title being a little Yoda-like, Dangerous wild, you are! is probably the biggest surprise.  To me it’s like one of her songs off her last album….”TYRANT too young” but it’s a lot more epic and badass of a song from Shokotan.  I love the mix of hard guitars and synths with a little touch of anime thrown in for the complete kickassness of it all.  Even Shoko is singing in a much deeper tone and I always approve of this vocal style of hers.  SWEEEEEET!

I gotta say, after “Sakurairo” I was starting to lose my fandomness with Shokotan, but she pulled me right back with Tsuyogari for sure.  I might be biased to why I liked the title track…but it’s pretty good.  I do prefer Dangerous wild, you are! more than Hoshikuzu Romance but that’s not to say I like both…cuz they are pretty good….hmmmm…
