Annabel – anamnesis February 6, 2012

Filed under: Annabel — solarblade @ 10:10 pm

Track Listing

  1. anamnesis
  2. closed world
  3. anamnesis (Off Vocal)
  4. closed world (Off Vocal)

1. anamnesis

I kind of was not expecting anamnesis to be a ballad from Annabel, but I guess I should’ve paid more attention haha.  It’s kind of simple with Annabel, strings and piano in the song which is nice and it’s got a little of a dramtic feel to it.  Besides that there’s not much else to say about it, it’s a pretty song and all…but I don’t know if it’s really A-side worthy.

2. closed world

Odd to see that Annabel would make closed world a B-side because it sounds more like an A-side than “anamnesis” does.  I mean it’s got guitars and an upbeat feel to it.  Though I have to admit, I didn’t see Annabel tackle a pop/rock style but it’s rather cool and her vocals fit nicely in this style.

I really don’t know what era this is going in (if there’s one in the first place…she seems to release on her own accord).  Though I don’t think this single was as good as “ignis”.  I didn’t understand why anamnesis was the A-side since it doesn’t really sound like an A-side unlike closed world which did…confusing huh?

Yousei Teikoku – filament

Filed under: Yousei Teikoku — solarblade @ 9:52 pm

Track Listing

  1. filament
  2. Zetsubou plantation
  3. filament (Instrumental)
  4. Zetsubou plantation (Instrumental)

1. filament

The intro to filament was rather cute haha.  I was surprised that it’s rather slower when compared to previous A-sides and reminds me of their stuff back in the “Gothic Lolita Doctrine” era since that era has quite a bit of mid-tempo goth-rock songs.  I don’t think it’s as great like “Kuusou Mesorogi” and “Mischeavous of Alice” but I think it represents nicely as the slow song in the era.

2. Zetsubou plantation

I’m surprised to see that Zetsubou plantation speeds the hell out from “filament” and kinds ranks up there amongst their other speedy tunes.  I will say it does kind of come of messy with everything going on but Yui sounds really good in this song which makes up for it in a way.  I think I liked this more than the leading track to be honest!

Yousei’s third single IMO ranks a little higher than “Kuusou Mesorogi” but doesn’t pass “Mischeavous of Alice” for me.  The good thing is is that the duo make the A-side a little more softer while making the B-side all hard and edgy.  I guess I would’ve rather had it reversed but it’s not a bad single overall ^_^

9nine – Shoujo Traveler

Track Listing

  1. Shoujo Traveler
  2. Monochro
  3. SHINING☆STAR (tofubeats remix)
  4. Shoujo Traveler (Instrumental)
  5. Monochro (Instrumental)

1. Shoujo Traveler

I have to say that I’m happy there’s a song that could surpass “Natsu wanna say love U” like Shoujo Traveler.  Unlike most of their previous singles in the era, this song has a electro/idol mix and it works for them since the vocals are a little more together as well.  Then again some of the vocals are a little synthesized.  Still it’s a great song to listen to and the 8-bit/techno sound is refreshing!

2. Monochro

Which is funny because the B-side of the single is a lot like previous songs.  Unlike all that techno stuff in the A-side, Monochro is more laidback and kind of close to being R&B.  Of course there’s still synths involved but not to a high degree.  I kind of like the relaxing music since it reminds me of something Mai Kuraki would dig.  Nice little tune but I’m not sure if I’ll remember this song in the long run.

3. SHINING☆STAR (tofubeats remix)

tofubeats isn’t a new name to me since they’ve remixed a couple of songs I reviewed ^_^ namely Aira Mitsuki and Momoiro Clover and 9nine’s last single.  I can’t remember SHINING☆STAR very well but I definitely don’t remember the glitchy skipping vocals at the beginning!  Of course the song starts off slowly but when it gets to the chorus, the remix starts to pick up with synths and beats.  It’s kind of interesting and the intentional skipping is hard to take in but makes the remix a bit more cooler than the “Cross Over” one.

I hope an album is on its way for sure since Shoujo Traveler is their 5th single and all that.  I will say that the A-side is my favorite of the era since it caters to what I like the most…upbeat music with synths xD.  Monochro isn’t bad either which is a surprise but somehow I feel like they have better ones as well.  The tofubeats remix is also quite good and so much better than their last one they did for the group.  I say overall, this is their best single in their first major era!
