1. Momoiro Sparkling

Fitting to kick things off with the A-side that started the era!  I kind of figured this would be a totally different side to °C-ute since it was a GIANT departure from the aggressive last single, “Kiss me Aishiteru”.  It’s funny though that in time, this song has grown on me and does the group well since it’s evenly split between the 5 gals singing.  It’s still a song you have to get used to if you started listening to them an album before but this is quite nice and well…cute LOL.

2. Hitorijime Shitakatta Dake na no ni

It’s kind of sad to see that there’s only three new group songs on the album >.>  I have to see that if you were missing the group’s more dance-forward songs, this’ll be the closest thing you’ll see on the album.  Hitorijime Shitakatta Dake na no ni doesn’t come close to songs like “Midnight Temptation” but this is close and the girls sound nice having a deeper tone than the previous track.  I can’t deny though that I feel that the song is missing something…but it’s still good nonetheless.

3. Yuke! Genki-kun

Now the album also has solo tracks…but by the three back girls Mai, Chisato, and Saki.  First up is Maimai’s solo and actually could be considered the album’s promotional song since it did get a PV (though a rather bland one that)…  Now Maimai and Nakky’s voice never interest me since they’re so pitchy and odd so hearing just Maimai is kind of awkward.  The song has diner sound to it but it’s hampered up by Maimai a bit since she has such off vocals IMO.  It could’ve been more exciting but maybe with a different girl XD

4. Sekaiichi HAPPY na Onna no Ko

I can say that now this song is my least favorite A-side of the era from them.  I mean it kind of went cuter than “Momoiro Sparkling” but also keeping this pop/rock sound they’ve had but there’s nothing much that’s memorable here for me besides that weird bridge into the choruses.  Yeah, this is just not my kind of song.

5. Zuntaka March ~Hitorashiku Ikiyou~

The next all-membered song is quite interesting for them.  I mean the brass instruments isn’t a new sound for them but it’s set in this fun and funky march feel.  Now I’m not sure how I feel about the girls swooping their notes SOOOO HARDCORE but hmmm.  It kind of feels random like “Edo no Temari Uta II”, but this is vocally unusual and not so much in the music.  Once it get to the actual march, it’s so cute like something from Disney XDDDD…yeah this is so weird XD.

6. Tokai no Neon ga Odoroku Kurai no Utsukushisa ga Hoshii

After that, it’s nice to calm down and get into something a little more sane.  Funny enough this song is actually Chisato’s solo song and hers is the best of the three solos we did get here.  Then again Chisato’s vocals didn’t sound out of place either.  Plus it’s R&B so it clearly suits her fine even though her vocals are a little eh in some places.  A slower paced version of “Cinderella/Complex”?  Perhaps XD…

7. Kagayake! Houkago

Finally we get Nakky’s solo and it’s the cutest of the three for sure.  I have to say that I liked her voice in this song more than what Maimai did for her song honestly.  It kind of reminds me of a sphere song though which is weird but whatever.  There’s just not much to remember it by and I kind of forget it but at least Nakky is having fun with her song.

8. Shiawase no Tochuu

The last new song on the album is oddly enough a ballad and includes all five members.  Now I’ve said before that H!P ballads are rarely amazing songs and it continues that streak with Shiawase no Tochuu.  I mean less girls is nice and I will say the girls melodically sound great…but it lacks a strong sound for me.  It kind of has this wintry ballad feel as well and it seems like all the members get a good amount of lines as well, though I will say why’s it over here since it sounds like a very good closing to the album…?  I guess it was better than most of their previous ballads at least.  EDIT:  I mean two months later and Tsunku says that this song and Berryz’ “Because happiness” should be played together to get a full song out of it.  Even though the ballad-ness of this song goes away, filling spots that felt like they were intentionally left off is great to have redeemed!

9. Amazuppai Haru ni Sakura Saku

I just couldn’t see the need of adding the BeriKyuu song onto the album really since there’s already so many upbeat happy tunes.  Since I could technically say this is the third A-side, I feel that it should’ve just had the 5 girls and none from Berryz.  Lacking solo lines as well, I felt like this song didn’t fit very well for either group (more so Berryz since it’s so cute for them and will be on their album “Ai no Album 8” as well).  It just doesn’t cut it for me…rather had this left on the single.

10. Seishun Gekijou (°C-ute Ver.)

If you’re wondering why it’s tagged as such, Seishun Gekijou is actually another BeriKyuu song (the original is found on the H!P compliation album, “Petit Best 12”).  It’s also interesting to note that it’s half-a-minute shorter than the original (because they took out the awesome saxophone solo…).  Plus, the song has a different sound but not enough to say it’s radically different.  Along with just the five girls, there’s a male vocalist singing as well…does bother me a little but it’s whatever…It’s a ballad of course and this does have a little more life than “Shiawase no Tochuu” but sacrificed emotion IMO.  Meh….

Song of Avoidance

  • Yuke! Genki-kun

I didn’t think they would surpass “Shocking 5” as their worst album, but personally, I think this album is their worst.  It feels so unlike them especially after that goodness that came from “Chou WONDERFUL!⑥”.  I mean the BeriKyuu songs were very unecessary here…the solo songs were kind of ridiculous and 2/3 were very blah songs…and the lack of Airi and Maimi is most of the songs were just too painful to watch as they were heard specifically in half the songs >.>  Plus add the rather unusual A-sides…it just didn’t work here and it’s a giant step down…leave the cute for S/mileage…go back to stuff like “Namida no Iro” and “Kiss me Aishiteru”…not this junk….BAD ALBUM!
