MIYAVI vs YUKSEK – DAY 1 August 19, 2012

Track Listing

  1. DAY 1
  2. FUTURISTIC LOVE 2012
  3. DAY 1 (instrumental)

1. DAY 1

Hey, MIYAVI went electro for his next collaborative single in his Samurai Sessions project.  I have to say that I was actually digging his experimentation back on “WHAT’S MY NAME?” and seeing him try it again definitely made me happy.  DAY 1 seems to fuse electronic beats and synths alongside MIYAVI’s guitarwork to get this really epic mixture.  I’ve never heard of YUKSEK but I think he handles the electronics so that’s cool.  Definitely a lot more memorable to me than “STRONG”.

2. FUTURISTIC LOVE 2012

Talking about “WHAT’S MY NAME?” it seems thay MIYAVI decided to update FUTURISTIC LOVE which was a pretty awesome song from the album.  The new version seems to clear things up and throws in my knick-knacks to make it pop out more and I love those changes because it gave the song a LOT more color.  I’m not sure if YUKSEK was involved here but if he was then kudos.  I still like “DAY 1” more but this is a great coupling to the single!

If MIYAVI continues this Samurai Sessions for longer, the possibility of the album will be amazing because he’s been doing so much better since “STRONG”.  Both tracks are a great mixture of electro and rock and sound great…of course MIYAVI gets props for still kicking ass as a guitaris lol.

Masami Okui – -Side SunRise- Sora no Uta

Track Listing

  1. Sora no Uta
  2. Aoi Namida
  3. Sora no Uta (Instrumental)
  4. Aoi Namida (Instrumental)

1. Sora no Uta

I’m kind of surprised that Makkun released a single shortly after “Love Axel”.  I’m also a bit surprised that Sora no Uta is so anime-ish and bright for her since I’m used to stuff like “Renka Tairan” and the like.  This tune is upbeat and genki which might be why I have a hard time taking it in.  She still sounds great though and fits.  Interesting A-side.

2. Aoi Namida

The B-side though is also quite interesting for Makkun because it sounds like an idol song almost but with Makkun’s vocals.  I do say that I kind of enjoy this song a little bit more than “Sora no Uta”.  I did feel though like the chorus was lacking somewhat.  Not bad, but it’s still a little lacking in areas.

If you’re curious there is a Side SunSet but that’s sung by Aira Yuuki.  Makkun’s Sora no Uta single isn’t really that great because it’s a tad bit plain in areas and a little uncharacteristic for her (though granted I haven’t heard her discography so it might actually fit to her older days *shrugs*.  I’ll just say that I prefer “Renka Tairan” over this.

Sukima Switch – Eureka

Filed under: Sukima Switch — solarblade @ 8:30 pm

Track Listing

  1. Eureka
  2. Kimi ga Ii Nara (from “TOUR 2012 “musium””)
  3. Guarana (from “TOUR 2012 “musium””)
  4. Eureka (Anime ver.)
  5. Eureka (backing track)

1. Eureka

For as long as I have been listening to Sukima Switch, I’ve been waiting for something upbeat to come along as an A-side and we finally got Eureka and I like it a lot.  It’s still pretty much an acoustic affair but there’s some added things that fill it out.  Takuya sounds a little more nasally than mormal but I thought it worked for the song, overall it’s probably the best song I’ve heard from them yet (sans “Andersen”).

2. Kimi ga Ii Nara (from “TOUR 2012 “musium””)

While there’s no original B-side on the single we ended up with two live versions of two of their older songs.  The first is Kimi ga Ii Nara (which is an album song from their debut major album, “Natsugumo Noise”).  At first it starts off with just Takuya and acoustic guitar and then moves into a mid-tempo tune.  For the most part it goes by without faults but it’s about as interesting and most of the “musium” singles and that’s not good.

3. Guarana (from “TOUR 2012 “musium””)

The next track is a live take on their 8th A-side.  This seems to be their fun song becuase it perked up the crowd which is good because I love the energy out of Guarana as well.  Takuya is also having fun with the tune as well which is a nice change.  I might have to find the studio cut after hearing this!

It’s funny, Sukima Switch has never been on my radar because the last couple of singles were a bit too drony.  Eureka finally broke that monotony for me with its upbeat nature and how it was tied to an anime.  The live versions were nice to, but it was obvious I liked Guarana more than Kimi ga Ii Nara.  Since a best-of is being released this week, it seems it doesn’t affect “Last Scene” and Eureka so we could still get both on a studio album (hopefully).
