Aki Misato – Ai no Sei de Nemurenai September 5, 2012

Track Listing

  3. Ai no Sei de Nemurenai (Instrumental)
  4. brilliant voice (Instrumental)

1. Ai no Sei de Nemurenai

I think when I hear the terms anime song, this would be a part of the typical sound of what one would contain.  Ai no Sei de Nemurenai doesn’t really seem to be very impressive of a song because of it’s bland nature about it but Aki does seem to sing the tune well enough to make it escape pure boredom.

2. brilliant voice

The same can be applied to the B-side single as well, but this has a bit more synth usage going on which might impress people but it’s definitely no “Defy Gravity”.  This kind of reminds me of songs from “from now on” since it’s cute and peppy but also a little bland too.  I kind of ended up liking it, but it’s still nothing to write home about.

It’s been quite a while since Aki released a single (she has released a lot of joint singles, but nothing solo since “Spread Wings”.  This single just came as a disappointment to me.  There really isn’t much good to write about the song beyond the fact they’re your run-of-the-mill anime tunes.  I did like brilliant voice a tad better than Ai no Sei de Nemurenai, but overall this was a weak single.

YUI – fight

Track Listing

  1. fight
  2. If you
  3. Happy Birthday to you you ~YUI Acoustic Version~
  4. fight ~Instrumental~

1. fight

It’s been quite a while since YUI released her last single and fight is actually a nice way to return to things.  I was kind of hoping the song would’ve been another “again” where it’s super aggressive and YUI is just rocking out.  What we got was a mid-tempo acoustic track and I kind of find myself not really being intrigued by the tune very much.  I will say that her vocals sound great but the song isn’t remarkable for me.

2. If you

Oh hey, there’s the song that I kind of wanted.  If you picks up the pace after “fight” and it sounds like YUI was having fun in the song and it’s pretty catchy to listen to.  Sadly, the song is extremely short at 2:45 in length which follows some of YUI’s other B-sides in how short they are.  It’s a great song!

3. Happy Birthday to you you ~YUI Acoustic Version~

Sadly, I have not heard the original track from “CAN’T BUY MY LOVE” so I can’t really compare here.  I have to say this is one of my favorite acoustic renditions because the song keeps things plain and simple and there’s other instruments that I like here as well.  Cute but not cheesy cute if you get my drift.

It feels like it’s been quite a while since we’ve had YUI release something.  Sadly, fight might not be the song to start a new era with because it just isn’t pinging my interest level any.  If you though made up for that quite nicely, but its shortcoming comes in the form of it’s TOO SHORT!  Which leaves us with the acoustic version of appy Birthday to you you which actually sounds pretty awesome.  Hope things get better!

YUKI – Watashi no Negaigoto

Filed under: YUKI — solarblade @ 4:50 am

Track Listing

  1. Watashi no Negaigoto
  2. Watashi no Negaigoto -Serph remix-
  3. Watashi no Negaigoto -tofubeats remix-

1. Watashi no Negaigoto

Oh so the single comes with one song huh?  Watashi no Negaigoto kind of follows up from her last single in arrangement and sound but I’m OK with this because YUKI does sound nice in the song.  It’s kind of laidback though so it doesn’t reakky strike me as memorable but this is a nice tune,

2. Watashi no Negaigoto -Serph remix-

The first remix gives the leading track more of a playful sound with clapping and some cute xylophone parts.  I like that it takes much more of a lighter route and all but it feels rather too empty for me.  Maybe it’ll grow on me but this is kind of missing things that made the original good.

3. Watashi no Negaigoto -tofubeats remix-

Damn, I’m seeing tofubeats everywhere it seems!  This remix is a little strange even for tofubeats because it’s less electro than I initially thought it would be and it sounds there’s some weird things like synth horns and some clicking of the mouth and all these collided together and it felt MESSY.

As the final single before YUKI releases her album, “BETWEEN THE TEN”, I think Watashi no Negaigoto is kind of a weak single preceding said album.  The original isn’t very exciting and it kind of sounds too familiar to past singles she’s done but it’s not terrible.  The remixes though weren’t great and didn’t make the song come off any better.  I just hope the album will make up for the meh singles she’s had.
