BABYMETAL – Megitsune June 25, 2013

Filed under: BABYMETAL — solarblade @ 1:47 am

megitsune

Track Listing

  1. Megitsune
  2. Benitsuki -Akatsuki- (Regular only)
  3. Onedari Daisakusen (Limited only)
  4. Megitsune (Air Vocal ver.)
  5. Akatsuki (Air Vocal ver.)

1. Megitsune

Taking a bit more of a heavier synth style to add alongside their metal sound, BABYMETAL is definitely a push back to their first song because you can really hear them being a mix of idol and metal and I’m loving every minute of Megitsune!  Of course this song is pretty hardcore and even the slow parts is pretty badass!  I’m not even missing the two younger members because they’re covered up by the arrangement while SU-METAL is just kicking ass.  This song was a winner in my book!

2. Benitsuki -Akatsuki-

The regular edition has Benitsuki -Akatsuki- which begins with SU-METAL singing the opening lines in a very light piano-fronted arrangement.  Though all worries go away when the song becomes fast and pounding (which I’ve said in the past that those kind of drum beats do annoy me in metal songs because they just pound in your mind).  Though they do go away, but there’s a lot of percussion lol.  Akatsuki is pretty good and then I start to question where the other two members are because they are lying low in this track.  I don’t think it’s quite as good as “Megitsune” but it’s a good B-side.

3. Onedari Daisakusen

On the Limited versions, we get Onedari Daisakusen and we get to hear a lot more of the younger members (actually quite a lot) and they’re doing some rapping against the heavy metal background which seems to be cool, but a little meh…could’ve been a Momoiro Clover Z track xD.  It’s definitely a song that could be well executed at lives but in studio form, Onedari Daisakusen seem to be a little off putting, especially for really no SU-METAL.

With an album announced for October and feeling a bit better that SU-METAL is sticking around a tad bit longer (remember, she graduated from Sakura Gakuin recently) I think Megitsune was a better turnout than “Ijime, Dame, Zettai” did.  The A-side is definitely what I was hoping for and they kicked ass!!!  Plus I was not bothered that MOAMETAL and YUIMETAL were kind of blemishes to both the A-side and Benitsuki -Akatsuki-.  Though that being said, Onedari Daisakusen on the other hand was really just those two and not a whole lot of SU.  Not bad of a single overall and I’m excited for the album!

AAA – Love Is In The Air

Filed under: AAA — solarblade @ 1:14 am

loveisintheair

Track Listing

  1. Love Is In The Air
  2. Eighth Wonder
  3. Special Preview (Memory Lane ~ TRAP ~ DRAMA ~ Believe) (CD only bonus track)
  4. Love Is In The Air (Instrumental)
  5. Eighth Wonder (Instrumental)

1. Love Is In The Air

Doesn’t it seem that AAA has been doing a bit too much with these Summer songs in this era with the last couple singles?  Love Is In The Air though seems to be a bit more electro dance pop which does pique my interest a lot more than “Niji” and “777” did.  I found something fresh about this track and the chorus is quite catchy to me!  Doesn’t surpass “PARTY IT UP” but this song is quite good!!

2. Eighth Wonder

As I feel AAA is probably going to name their 8th album after this (like they have with the last album) Eighth Wonder is quite a banger (and we’ve had quite a few of those in the era).  I love hearing Nissy and Urata kick it off again and it really has a sense of Ibiza and electro and heavy sounds throughout which REALLY caught me off guard.  Though as I continue through the song, the format sounds a lot like “I$M” where everyone has their chance to sing.  It’s a pretty edgy song though and I hope this makes the album cut because I want it to get the same treatment as the aforementioned song did.

3. Special Preview (Memory Lane ~ TRAP ~ DRAMA ~ Believe)

The 3rd track (as a bonus to CD onlys) there’s a preview of four songs (that I think will be on the album) but they’re split into small groupings.  The first song is Memory Lane which is Urata and Shinji singing together.  It’s actually a nice slow jam for them because both of the guys have more of the deeper and scruffy tone.  I love the song, but it could be a bit boring after a while.  TRAP comes next and it’s a duet between Chiaki and Misako which is no surprise because they’ve been doing that for a long time.  They get a more upbeat track, but still a bit R&B-ish in places.  Nissy and Misako come next with DRAMA and it sounds like some of those typical R&B ballads AAA has done in the past which is a bit disappointing.  Finally Shuta and strangely enough Hidaka combine for Believe and the song does wonders for Shuta (besides being another R&B track with a heavier beat).  Shuta sounds great and of course Hidaka does the rapping LOL.  As a whole, this track is kind of making me worried about the album because there wasn’t a lot of impressive moments here…

Love Is In The Air, is a pretty good single actually, 2nd to “PARTY IT UP” but I didn’t think I would because of how summery the A-side was, but I got to really enjoy that.  Eighth Wonder is a lot like “I$M” but that’s a good thing and the arrangement is surprisingly awesome.  The preview medley though did make me worry that the album isn’t going to be that great just from the four songs…though I liked the Chiaki/Misako duet and the Shuta/Hidaka duet the most.  Hope there’s some kind of change soon!

Kyarypamyupamyu – Nanda Collection

nandacollection

Track Listing

  1. Nanda Collection
  2. Ninjari Ban Ban
  3. Kimi ni 100 Percent
  4. Super Scooter Happy
  5. Invader Invader
  6. Mi
  7. Fashion Monster
  8. Saigo no Ice Cream
  9. Noriko to Norio
  10. Furisodation
  11. Kura Kura
  12. Otona na Kodomo

1. Nanda Collection

Opening the album is a short 50 sec0nd intro, which acts as the title track lol.  It has taiko drums and ~pamyu pamyu~ in the first part before the track opens with some fanfare-ish ideas, but still retaining that super cute sound…but since it’s so short it really didn’t leave a mark on me…but really didn’t slide into the next track very well.

2. Ninjari Ban Ban

I guess the taiko drums was an OK choice, but going into Ninjari Ban Ban (Kyary’s 3rd A-side of the era) was a bit jarring with how happy-go-lucky “Nanda Collection” sounded.  I love this song (as I do with majority of the A-sides released in the era xD).  I just love the total Nakataness of the song mixed with ninja-like sounds morphed in the arrangement and the track was made even catchier with Kyary singing.  It’s just so fun and unique amongst the Kyary songs out there.

3. Kimi ni 100 Percent

As the primary A-side from the second single, I was surprised it wasn’t heavily promoted like “Furisodation” but also not surprised because it was my least favorite of the 5 A-sides.  It’s cute like various songs, but there’s something that’s just a bit forgetful about the song (and surprised because it was tied to Crayon Shin-chan of all).  I felt like it could’ve been way more wackier!  Still, it’s kind of a nice song to listen to once in a while….especially since it’s one of the shorter tracks

4. Super Scooter Happy

Oh well this isn’t a surprise, the first new vocal track on the album is a cover of an older capsule track!  Sadly, when I reviewed the original on “S.F. sound furniture” I called it the worst track on the album and I was seriously worried getting into Kyary’s version as well.  It still sounds like Sesame Street music with a bit more jump which is pretty ugh.  Kyary though sounds super cute in the song and fits the style and sometimes sounds like Toshiko LOL.  Suited yes and it kind of got me to enjoy the song a bit more!

5. Invader Invader

Then we switch moods again getting into the most recent single released prior to the album.  I LOVE Invader Invader as well.  I mean this song is just a song full of hooks and it’s got such a great beat and tone that it just makes you wanna go around and dance!  Even the dubstep wubs didn’t really push me away from the song but added a lot of color to the song.  Plus the whole ~osharezu sekai seifuku da!~ line is just catchy as all hell.  Yeah you can tell that I really spammed the crap outta the song hahaha!

6. Mi

In a way this could be called the promotional track for the album and I can only wonder why Kyary would even do this.  I love the intro though with the whole marching band sound…but once the song goes into full force…it’s definitely the most repetitive song off the album.  Then again Kyary has had many of those kind of songs, but when the title is the center word for the entire way, it gets pretty annoying pretty quick.  I feel like there was lost potential here.

7. Fashion Monster

Which is made worse because “Mi” is in between my two favorite songs on the album.  Fashion Monster was the first single she released after “Pamyupamyu Revolution” and it was a Halloween single as well.  Good lord did Nakata and Kyary pull this out of an amazing place because it’s just edgier and cooler and not this cute mess that was the last track!  There’s just something about Fashion Monster that really sticks out on the album because of its darker tone and beat.  I think it’s the best off the album to be honest!

8. Saigo no Ice Cream

I don’t know why, but there was something that’s pretty cool about Saigo no Ice Cream’s intro and then listening to the verses.  There was something pretty cool about it.  Actually this song kind of has this 80’s touch which is pretty awesome.  It just sounds like it has punch behind it and just that guitar in the back sounds awesome!  It could’ve made a pretty cool anime outro!!!

9. Noriko to Norio

This song is vocally a big fat mess because the voices don’t mesh and they warble a lot when put together.  Add in that Kyary is really singing this in a super sugary voice and I am just not interested in it.  There’s even some dubstep wubs thrown in amongst this cutesy arrangement and I just could not get myself into it very well.  Oh well…

10. Furisodation

As the secondary A-side from the second single released for the album, Furisodation was a better track than “Kimi ni 100 Percent” but this is also kind of on the lower side (but that’s because the other 3 singles were just that damn good!  Furisodation is a pretty good feel-good song (especially when it’s about Kyary’s coming of age basically).  It’s got a great groove and is a good middle song between super cute and the super energetic…I really enjoyed it a lot.

11. Kura Kura

I guess to make up for the fact none of the B-sides are on the album, there had to be one that used the damn glock and Kura Kura would be that song which is just as annoying as “Mi” was but shorter.  It’s a weird ass song that features baritone…and a random dialing up moment as well…This is just a bit too much for me and just doesn’t work for me >.<

12. Otona na Kodomo

Ending the album is Otona na Kodomo which kind of sounds like a song originally meant for Perfume but Nakata was like trolling and gave to Kyary to work with.  There’s something about the song that really fits Kyary hear considering she hasn’t done anything really House and I’m happy with this song too.  It made for a pretty nice final track to the album, but I think “Chan Chaka Chan Chan” did a much better job closing it out.

  • Noriko to Norio

Ahhh, Kyary’s sophomore album and Nanda Collection is slightly better than her debut since most of the songs I fully enjoyed…but the bad songs are pretty bad on this album which kind of forces it to even out.  Also, the singles REALLY took over the album even moreso than on “Pamyupamyu Revolution” because the A-sides were really good this time around and it did make everything else seem a bit less than memorable (sans a couple).  This album was still on the good side of things, but she needs to not do songs like Noriko to Norio, Mi, and Kura Kura because those three really brought the album down…

Tommy february6 – TOMMY CANDY SHOP ♥ SUGAR ♥ ME June 22, 2013

Track Listing

  1. FAIRY DUST
  2. SUGAR♥ME
  3. RUNAWAY
  4. ANGEL FADE
  5. SPACEY COWGIRL
  6. PINK ARMY
  7. Ai no♥Ai no Hoshi
  8. MY VACATION
  9. SUMMER BUBBLES
  10. BE MY VALENTINE

1. FAIRY DUST

Opening the album, Tomoko kicks things with FAIRY DUST and by that title, it was definitely going back to being a really cute song, but in february6’s way it’s quite true to her style!  I also like the fact that I’m hearing a lot of English from Tomoko as well, even if it’s heavily accented lol.  This is quite catchy and the chorus is quite amazing to listen as well…what a great way to start things off!

2. SUGAR♥ME

As one of the two tracks promoting the album, SUGAR♥ME actually sounds like a song she would’ve put out during the “Tommy airline*” days because of it’s retro pop feel of it.  I really did miss this side of Tomoko’s music in this persona because she was going for a more modern sound.  This song is pretty catchy too OMG…very nice of a track.

3. RUNAWAY

As the other promotional track used for the album, RUNAWAY also shares some of the old february6 tracks as well.  I do think this song also reminds me of a synthed up heavenly6 track because of the lyrics seem to a be a slight bit darker.  I have to say my favorite parts are the pre-chorus sections because it’s such a nice build-up.  Damn…I’m loving this album so far!

4. ANGEL FADE

Is it me or does this song kind of feels like the song whose PV would look like “Bloomin'”s PV because of the whole dreamy tone of the song in the intro.  After that the song becomes a bit like electropop which is fine with me because I love the loud sound of the song and the way Tomoko’s voice is layered in the song.  I will say that she is kind of stressing her vocals out in the chorus because she has to be louder than the music.  It’s definitely a song that’s great for dancing in clubs to.

5. SPACEY COWGIRL

Of the songs on the album, I think my favorite has to be SPACEY COWGIRL because it’s retro but it’s also aggressive in its own right which really stands out on the album.  I’ve started to take notice that Tomoko has been singing in English for almost half the album now and I’m not sure how to take it lol.  SPACEY COWGIRL just has a great tone to it and the chorus is just orgasmic to my ears lol.  Yeah this is just an epic song for Tomoko!

6. PINK ARMY

Getting into PINK ARMY, I kind of felt this song was slightly going into K-pop territory because of the edgier sound and bump-and-grind style that we ended up with here.  I found this quite refreshing, but like “ANGEL FADE” she’s struggling in the chorus because of singing in a higher range.  I kind of enjoyed the song, but there were definitely better tracks to be honest lol.

7. Ai no♥Ai no Hoshi

It’s a bit strange to see there’s only one track that isn’t capitalized on the album and it’s the B-side from “BE MY VALENTINE” which is also a self-cover of the same track done by her band, the brilliant green.  Like I said in the review, she did make it fit the persona quite nicely, but the fact she didn’t resing the song kind of makes it a little lazy and it’s kind of obvious her voice does sound a bit different than the other tracks.  Still, I can’t help but admire that she pulled this song (though surprised it made the album cut >.>).

8. MY VACATION

Why do I feel like this song sort of reminds me of a Katy Perry track (Teenage Dream that is).  I took this as the summer track from Tomoko because it’s so dance-poppy, but I love the melody and hearing Tommy singing in Japanese (something I didn’t really comment back on the last track LOL).  This song is just the right kind of summer fun and party music, I love to listen to so this was an epic win!

9. SUMMER BUBBLES

As the last new track, SUMMER BUBBLES actually give me the feel of her first album which I didn’t think she’d get herself back into.  Sadly, of the new tracks, this is probably my least favorite of them because it’s a bit too uneventful and kind of low-key for me.  I did like, the throwback to her first album though, that’s quite nice.

10. BE MY VALENTINE

Ending the album is the A-side that was released before the album and is also the longest track as well being 6 minutes in length.  This also kind of harkens her debut album but it also kind of reminds me of some of those singles she released after her second album.  Being a song that’s about Valentine’s is nice and Tomoko is know to do some good holiday-themed songs.  The only thing that bothered me is the spoken dialogue (spoken in Engrish) and it just is ridiculous (since the guys voice is just like the one used on the new track that was on “HALLOWEEN ADDICTION”).  Otherwise, nice track, but a little too long.

  • SUMMER BUBBLES

It’s been forever since Tomoko released a full studio album under the february6 moniker.  As this is her 3rd studio album, TOMMY CANDY SHOP ♥ SUGAR ♥ ME really surprised me because her last couple of releases have been kind of subpar and she was winning people more with her heavenly6 persona.  There was just a lot of great tracks on this album and even though there was two songs I was just kind of meh with, this is on par with her debut album with best works!  Yeah this album is definitely *RECOMMENDED* to Tommy fans!

Hello Pro! Kenshuusei feat. Juice=Juice – Ten Made Nobore! June 21, 2013

1. Ten Made Nobore! / Hello Pro! Kenshuusei feat. Juice=Juice

So this single is considered the Kenshuusei’s (or H!P’s trainees) second single and Juice=Juice’s 3rd indies…weird.  Ten Made Nobore! for the Kenshuusei is a bit of a change after their first single “Kanojo ni Naritai!!” where it went from all that energy to a bit more of a softer and slightly cheesier track.  It’s kind of like an album song from a S/mileage album because it’s all sung in unison for one thing and the sound just kind of suits them.  It’s not an offensive song but I kind of got tired of listening to it after a while.

2. Ten Made Nobore! / Juice=Juice

I was hoping there’d be a musical difference between the two versions but that doesn’t seem to really happen.  The biggest difference is of course it’s just the 6 of them singing.  After their first two singles to come into this song, is also a big dropoff because I don’t really feel this song suits them.  I’m also a little disappointed that Yuka and Akari didn’t get ANY solo lines in the song which makes me frown >.<.  I still don’t really care for the song much right now.

You know, this single was a bit meh to me!  I feel like for both sides of the coin (Kenshuusei and J=J), this was just slightly underwhelming.  Granted, Ten Made Nobore! lyrically makes more sense for the Kenshuusei like “Kanojo ni Naritai!!” was for them so I can see this being performed a lot.  HOWEVER, for Juice=Juice, this seems to come as at a strange time because they announced their major label debut after this, so it seems so uncharacteristic for them to be doing this IMHO.  Oh well lol.

Berryz Koubou – Golden Chinatown/Sayonara Usotsuki no Watashi

Track Listing

  1. Golden Chinatown
  2. Sayonara Usotsuki no Watashi
  3. Golden Chinatown (Instrumental)
  4. Sayonara Usotsuki no Watashi (Instrumental)

1. Golden Chinatown

Seems like Berryz are once again going outside of Japan to get ideas for songs (well it’s more like Tsunku is, but you know).  Golden Chinatown at first listen sounded a lot like a mix of “WANT!” and “Asian Celebration” which did make me complain of the unoriginality thrown here, but add in the Chinese elements and actually this song is a disco-banger for me!  I love that there’s a bit more of the back members (more focused on Yurina and Momoko) and Rii and Miya get to kind of sit back for this.  I think my favorite are the melodies that are in the back like the guitar/bass bounces in the verses <3!  This is definitely a much needed song after the messy song of their last single.

2. Sayonara Usotsuki no Watashi

The other A-side of the single to me is kind of what’s been popular in H!P recently and that’s the electro song.  Not that it’s bad because there’s no auto-tune like in some other tracks!  The line distribution though goes back to Risako and Miyabi in the front and everyone taking more of a support role.  The song for me isn’t much in my tastes though because it has a similar feel to C-ute’s “Aitai Aitai Aitai na” where it’s so explosive but once you delve in, it’s just a bit disappointing.

So, I feel like this single did kind of make up for whatever misstep happened on “Asian Celebration” but I also feel a bit strange having two A-sides but not B-side.  Golden Chinatown is a pretty nifty song and fits the Chinese mood quite snuggly and loved hearing Chinami, Maasa, and Captain more!  The other A-side is kind of more electro stuff that Tsunku is kind running dry on.  It’s loud and heavy, but it doesn’t have much to hook onto (at least by me)…hmmm what’s next…

E3 and Corocoro! Pokemon X & Y NEWS!!! June 14, 2013

What a great time to be a Pokémon fan right?  I mean E3 just finished and we got Corocoro that leaked all in the same week.  I didn’t expect too much, but damn Masuda did a great job with all this new information!  Let’s see what we have!!!

  • First of all, there’s a new type in town and that’s the Fairy type (which for all we know right now is to hold off Dragon types.  We learned that Sylveon is one of them which is GREAT news because they’ve been holding off on it for quite a while now.  Marill, Jigglypuff, and Gardevoir have also been announced as dual-Fairy types now too (so I assume Azumarill and Wigglytuff are part of this line-up.  For other old Pokémon, I would think the Clefairy line, Snubbull line, Mawile, and the trio from D/P/PT (Uxie, Azelf, and Mesprit) will be Fairy-types too.
  • We got a couple of new styles of fighting, like Horde battle which is to put a little more difficulty but big rewards in battle by making you go 1 vs. 5 (yeah that’s a lot!).  Also there are Sky battles where well you fight in the sky (the unfortunate thing is that the Pokémon needs to be a Flying type or have the Levitate ability to do such a thing.
  • It looks like there’ll be more Pokémon to ride with them showing Rhyhorn off too.
  • Couple of places have been localized like the beginning town is Vaniville Town and the first gym is located at Santalune City which btw (Viola is the 1st gym leader and she has Bug Pokémon.
  • The PSS is kind of like the C-Gear which makes trading and battles a little more easier ^^.

Anyways, with most of the big news talked about, let’s get into the meat of the post THE NEW POKEMON!!!!

Noivern

noivern

Noivern is the first we got to know and it’s a Flying/Dragon type which might not be the most original typing, but at least it kind of bases itself with Sound (like the Whismur line).  I’m sure it’s a final evolution of something too.  It looks pretty wicked and somehow might just make it on my team in my playthrough!

Scatterbug, Spewpa, Vivillon

scatterbug

spewpa

vivillon

Even though Vivillon was released first to the public, we still ended up getting the full line during the rest of the week!  Both Scatterbug and Spewpa are of the Bug type which makes sense (and I get strange Shuppet feels about Spewpa’s design) and parallels other lines in the past and Vivillon is a Bug/Flying which is definitely like Butterfree and Beautifly.  It’s an interesting line no doubt, but this might be just used for the first half of the game.

Skrelp

skrelp

While Noivern and Vivillon were released in the first E3 trailer, the next three came out during the 2nd E3 trailer.  Starting with this hybrid of kelp and a seahorse, Skrelp is an interesting Pokémon for it’s looks, but it’s typing is more akin to like Tentacool and Qwilfish, it’s a Poison/Water type.  It looks a bit strange at first, but I bet it’ll evolve…plus Horsea might have a rival!

Clauncher

clauncher

Our next one is a pure Water type, Clauncher, based on a crawfish, I feel like this might be the generation’s Krabby and Corphish so I assume it’ll just evolve into something more (though if it did, my mind is making it look like Armaldo or something).

Talonflame

talonflame

So we also got to see Fletchling’s final evolution, Talonflame and like I expected, it did turnout to be a Fire/Flying type (which is kind of like a more watered down Moltres) lol.  My only problem is that name though, I mean that’s super lazy to name it TALONFLAME.  Though it looks like it’ll be a strong Pokémon especially since it knows Brave Bird and all!

Litleo

litleo

Then Corocoro came out and brought 4 more Pokémon to the table (Scatterbug, Spewpa, Litleo, and Flabébé) I already talked about the first two because they’re pre-evolutions to Vivillon, but let’s get into the other two.  Litleo is probably the CUTEST Pokémon I’ve seen thus far in this generation and even though it reminds me a lot of Shinx, it’s still adorable in it’s own way.  It even has a unique typing of Fire/Normal which probably will shed once it evolves!

Flabébé

flabebe

Our last new Pokémon is Flabébé who is a Fairy type (so no, there’s nothing to do with Grass-type here right?).  I guess the flower is used as a weapon perhaps?  I don’t know but this cute thing is considered the smallest and lighter Pokémon out there (I guess Ghost-types don’t count?).  It did start to make me wonder if Pokémon like Bellossom, Whimsicott, and Lilligant are Fairy-types too lol.  By the way, Flabébé is the first Pokémon to have accents in its name *gasp*

SO THAT’S IT FOR THIS MONTH, SEE YOU IN THE NEXT COROCORO BATCH!!!
