1. Romance no Tochuu
As the group’s major debut A-side, there was a lot riding on this release. Sadly, before the intended date of release Aina had to quit because of her parents so they had to rework the song over. What we got was a pretty cool and disco-heavy track that’s surprisingly catchy as hell. Most of the lyrics did go to Karin of course with Sayuki and Tomoko being the sub-vocalists while Akari and Yuka ended up in the back (as usual). I actually enjoy the song quite a lot and I’m loving the synergy between Karin, Sayubee, and Kanatomo for sure. I think this made a great debut for them and I hope they continue to go strong (and hope Karin doesn’t leave due to her current injury).
2. Watashi ga Iu Mae ni Dakishimenakya ne (MEMORIAL EDIT)
Initially, I was shocked they wanted to remix their first two singles (lulz for ignoring “Ten Made Nobore!”) and a lot of people thought it was to shove Aina wholly, but in PV screenshots, it showed that she was involved so technically we were going to get these nonetheless. Though like “Romance no Tochuu” they also still had to rearrange the vocals due to Aina leaving. Of course I’m surprised Tsunku moved a lot of the lines between Karin, Sayubee, and Kanatomo. About the remix though, some of it is nice and effective while other parts (like the middle 8 section) is a travesty to listen to…I actually loathed that inclusion! I mean it’s not the worst they can do, but the original version is still way better!
3. Samidare Bijo ga Samidareru (MEMORIAL EDIT)
So their 2nd indies also gets an edit as well and like the previous track, it has a different opening but it moves into the original quite smoothly. Of course the lines are once redistributed here and I hear a lot more Karin and Sayubee which is meh….but I also love that they resung the songs and Akari and Yuka sound so much better than in the original. Of the two edits, I actually like this one better because it doesn’t add random bullshit like the previous one did and it carried the same flow and fierceness of the original (but with no Aina >.>).
I didn’t think they would get a major debut quicker than what S/mileage had to, but I feel like this was what they needed Romance no Tochuu was a pretty sassy and fun song to listen to and really stuck to my mind for a while! The edits of their indie singles were OK…it wasn’t necessary, but it’s strange to talk about because it was planned to happen before Aina’s departure from the group. I would’ve actually preferred to have had an original B-side. Plus, like I said before, funny they left off their 3rd A-side…though I bet an edit would do it good!!!
