1. Mystery Night!

Wow, this kick S/mileage has been getting has been doing them wonders and with the case of Mystery Night! this is a high point in their careers!  First of all despite sharing this route with all of H!P (one A-side is cool, the other being more cute), Mystery Night! is the first song that really made me say S/mileage is a force not to be reckoned with.  I love the stringwork and dance beats gelling together and the overall sexy mood just awesome.  I still think that Meimi and Takechan are the vocal winners here and surprise Ayacho is sounding a bit better nowadays lol.  Mmmph, this is just perfect!

2. Eighteen Emotion

So the other A-side to deal with, Eighteen Emotion is of course the poppy, cute track of the single and it sure doesn’t come close to being as good as “Mystery Night!” but I’m loving that Kanana and Rinapuu is getting more lines (slowly but surely).  Weird to compare, but it reminds me of a cuter “Kanashiki Heaven” but also reminds me of old S/mileage :D.  Not bad, but WAY overshadowed.

As the group’s 3rd single released for the era, I have to say it isn’t as equally liked like their last single was but I don’t know.  Mystery Night! is definitely their best A-side they’ve done as a 6-nin yet and I’m just loving this more mature S/mileage (strange right?).  Eighteen Emotion is OK at best, but the song was totally a pushover for it’s opposite A-side.  Could there be an album next?

Kanon Wakeshima – killy killy JOKER

1. killy killy JOKER

Oh the opening to the song is just pretty with only the strings, but then the songs opens further to an anison sound which is pretty different I’d say for Kanon.  Her voice though actually sounds quite relaxed for the most part (in comparison to “signal”) until the chorus where she does kind of wails some of her parts, but she’s definitely working on her tone and control.  I will say her cello solo was damn pretty to listen to and it sounded so mysterious against the more bright arrangement.  It’s kind of like bridging her past to her present.  I actually enjoyed this one a lot!

2. moonlight party

Then the B-side comes in and I just don’t know what to say about this song.  I mean when her first words are ~THANK YOU FOR THE ALCOHOL!~, you know it’s going to be a strange ride.  moonlight party is kind of a anime-esque try at jazz/big band mixed with a children’s song…but Kanon is just trying to kill me on the inside with her voice.  I thought she’d leave the cute voices behind, but nope full force here.  The weird thing though is that she does sound good in a couple places, but majority of the time….OH HELL NO.  Yeah….what was this?

So Kanon’s 3rd single since her return, killy killy JOKER has split me lol.  I have to say that killy killy JOKER is her best A-side since returning after leaving Mana.  It has a nice anison sound mixed up with her cello skills which all wrapped up in a rather cool song.  THEN the B-side happened and honestly…it’s probably the worst thing Kanon has done as an artist and that says a lot!  moonlight party tried to be more fun and cute, but I don’t think it suits her at all!  Still if anything just get it for the A-side.

Up Up Girls – (Kakko Kari) wa Kaesuze☆be your soul/Party! Party!/Jumper!

  6. Jumper! (Instrumental)

1. (Kakko Kari) wa Kaesuze☆be your soul

As the first song on this triple A-side, (Kakko Kari) wa Kaesuze☆be your soul is a lot like past edgy songs like “SAMURAI GIRLS” and “UPPER ROCK” so I’m kind of used to seeing at least one cool song in the era from the group.  There’s pounding beats and some dirty and gritty synths playing as well!  Granted it doesn’t feel like it’s been forever since the group did something cool, but this is one of their more cleaner songs too…throw in some auto-tune and some spoken quips and you got this song.  It’s a bit random and all over the place, but I kind of enjoyed this track haha.

2. Party! Party!

The other 2 A-sides take a slight chill pill starting with Party! Party! which is kind of like the grou’s atypical poppy song which is nice to hear as the ladies sound really pleasant and they all have solos.  It’s a rather nice and simple song for the group, but quite bouncy and cute to listen too.  Great track!

3. Jumper!

Oh boy, the fast sung lyrics make their way into Jumper! and the opening lines are a mouthful to listen to.  It’s kind of a mix of the previous two tracks by being hyper but definitely screams idols.  I have to give props to the group for being able to keep up with a track like this lyrically and while their voices are slightly auto-tuned, it wasn’t too distracting and is probably….I don’t know, my 2nd favorite track perhaps?

As the 2nd single for their 3rd era, UUG’s triple A-side actually worked for them!  Plus, I love the sheer fact all three songs got PVs to go along with it so it’s definitely cool to see the group moving forward.  (Kakko Kari) wa Kaesuze☆be your soul is a long title, but the song was the given cool song and I loved the hell out of it.  Jumper! was also quite fast, but was also more idol-like in the run and I found it catchy as hell too.  Party! Party! might not have the longevity the other two have, but it was pretty nice to get a pop song from them…Woo!!!
