°C-ute – The Power/Kanashiki Heaven (Single Version) July 16, 2014

Track Listing

  1. The Power
  2. Kanashiki Heaven (Single Version)
  3. The Power (Instrumental)
  4. Kanashiki Heaven (Single Version) (Instrumental)

1. The Power

As the only original song on the single, The Power definitely reminded me of their past song “That’s the POWER” back in 2007.  It was easily dismissed as the song begins giving us this Arabesque arrangement.  I just didn’t know what to think because this song is really bizarro but it definitely sounds a bit more unique in their discography than their previous single.  I was also surprised to hear Maimai & Nakky under auto-tune for their parts.  For what it’s worth it’s not bad, a little wild but definitely passable.

2. Kanashiki Heaven (Single Version)

Really Tsunku?!?  I don’t know why he decided to include a new version of this song (to be honest, this is the 3rd time I’ve had to review this one).  Though it was upgraded to A-side status.  Honestly, it’s so mundane to have done this because it’s still sung mostly by Airi and Chisato (the other 3 have SMALL parts in the song, but otherwise not important here.  I mean the arrangement is a little different and the opening is also somewhat different too, but honestly…why this again…especially it has a single version already…THE ORIGINAL from “Aitai Aitai Aitai na”. >.>

Man °C-ute are struggling this year for me.  Their last single took time to grow on me but this one feels sort of lazy.  The Power is good for an A-side and really stands out from their dance tracks at least, but rehashing Kanashiki Heaven AGAIN?!? I just hate that it happened especially with how little it changed in the overhaul too.  I don’t know, but now I’m sure Tsunku is putting his efforts with Berryz more than °C-ute this year and it’s showing!
