1. ♠ -the GAME-

Opening the trio’s album up, ♠ -the GAME- kicks things off on a pretty edgy note by having a gritter dark sound that the group hasn’t been known for much quite yet.  Though after the intro, the song turns into a pretty solid I’ve Sound electronic feel which is always a nice thing to see.  It’s surprising to see the three work off each other and it really has this group feel.  It’s an awesome way to open the album up for sure!

2. Trip -innocent of D-

Moving to a bunch of older stuff, we have the group’s 3rd A-side, Trip.  Like the opening track, it has a more darker side which is surprising but a nice touch regardless.  Though it also moves away from that and kind of becomes a typical guitar-fronted anison song.  It’s a little weird for me and I barely remember this song even as an A-side.

3. Dramatic Make It

Then we get into the B-side from “Sympathy” and we’re introduced to a more dance-pop side of the group.  I will say it did throw me off after the first two tracks and it’s even shocking to hear Airi, Rin, and Nami performing in a more cuter way as evident from their voices.  It’s a nice track though at least.

4. Meadow sweet

Oh hey, a random new track thrown in.  I actually enjoyed this one which is surprising to me.  It has a rather cool technopop sound and has some pretty solid vocals from the three.  Actually they are somewhat under some auto-tune in some parts of the song, but mostly they are singing deeper than they did in “Dramatic Make It”.  Definitely a solid track for the album!

5. Dreamroid

Moving onto the B-side that came off their first single, Dreamroid was a song that I loved a lot when it came out and on this album it still stands out as one of the better songs.  It’s a bit like “Meadow sweet” where the synths are prominent, but the tune felt a little more less smooth since the gals are singing in different vocal styles.  It’s still a pretty cool song but the previous song still outranks it.

6. Sympathy

It’s weird we keep hopping around styles on the album but hey Sympathy had to come somewhere.  As the trio’s 4th A-side, Sympathy never really stuck out in my mind either (to be honest, none of the A-sides have).  There’s something about this that’s missing and doesn’t catch my interest.  I mean the vocals are pretty good, but the arrangement feels like it was phoned in (more than “Trip”).  Meh…

7. Kimi+Nazo+Watashi de JUMP!!

It’s been a while since I’ve listened to their first major label A-side.  When I heard this, I wasn’t sure what to think where the group was going.  Like it was a lot like an anison song catered to Shoujo animes.  The vocals weren’t that impressive and the shouting of cute things was just not my interest.

8. syzygy

At least we move into some new tracks with syzygy.  It is the group’s mid-tempo track and I do enjoy the atmosphere of the song and after the previous track, I can say that the vocals just sound 100% better.  It might not be the most engaging song the album has to offer, but it’s a pretty good song to show off the group’s vocal chops.

9. Re:Last syndrome

Whoa that intro caught my attention!  Anyways, our next track, Re:Last syndrome is more of that anison/synth sound that I’ve’s been doing with recently and I kind of liked it.  Though like “Sympathy”, it’s missing something to really make it stand out and for that it comes off a little generic sounding.  At least the vocals are on par!

10. Rolling Star☆彡

Now you may be wondering why this is bolded and it’s actually because this song was their debut track.  Plus it was found on the I’ve Sound compilation “LEVEL OCTAVE” and was their indies single (which I didn’t even know happened).  So technically, this is their first A-side!  Being as this was a song that came out 2010, Rolling Star☆彡 is pretty upbeat and strikes more against the cuter side of their music.  Though for some reason it sounds actually like a nice song to listen to…much more than “Dramatic Make It”.  Definitely one of the better songs of the album.

11. Chapter.5

Our next track was the B-side from “Trip -innocent of D-” and I personally think it’s the best of the B-sides.  It’s a darker song of course and includes some familiar I’ve rhythms.  It could’ve used more impact in its chorus, but it’s a pretty memorable chorus regardless and the group sounds really good together.  Great tune overall!

12. Ainigma

Aggressive guitars open up the next song, Ainigma and it’s a doozy of a song.  The trio is singing mostly in a hushed whispery tone until the chorus where one of the members clearly has the leads.  It’s a tad messy in places and the whispery sections can get shadowed by the arrangement too.  It’s not a bad track, just kind of muddled in areas.

13. Baby☆Seven Flight colors

I instantly thought cutesy song when I saw the title of our next track and funny enough I was kind of right.  Though the intro of the song made it sound more majestic that I had expected.  Like “Kimi+Nazo+Watashi de JUMP!!”, this track has some overly sugar speaking lines, but most of the song is not as bad as I was expecting it.  It’s a simple anison track but it wasn’t terrible surprisingly enough.

14. fire just do it

Damn, this song begins pretty heavily with some powerful guitar chords there.  Though like “♠ -the GAME-” the song kind of goes the same route with some beats and synths and has a grittier side that reminds me of MELL/KOTOKO songs.  It’s pretty neat and the gals sound so good together (it seems like they’ve really focused on melodies with the album songs).  Overall a great song though strange it’s in the back of the album.

15. Send-off ~Namidairo no Start Line~

The album closes out with the B-side from “Rolling Star☆彡” which was also found on the compilation “SHORT CIRCUIT II”.  I wasn’t surprising because it’s a ballad so it made an appropriate appearance to close it out.  Unfortunately, the song never really stood out to me and the vocals are kind of meh.  Then again eroge ending themes really aren’t all that great (especially ballad ones).  It’s OK as an ending but otherwise meh.

Song of Avoidance

  • Kimi+Nazo+Watashi de JUMP!!

I was kind of wondering how Larval Stage Planning’s album would turn out because the group had changed since their debut by focusing as a group rather than fully being three girls.  LSP is an OK album but most of the songs are kind of meh and anison-heavy.  Sadly, after the release Nami and Rin left the group leaving Airi by herself.  Whether or not the group will continue is up in the air…but really who knows since LSP isn’t a big group for I’ve.
