  3. Re-Mi-Ra
  4. Super Summer Wonder

1. koboreteshimattamizunoyouni

Being the group’s debut, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a duo unit, but it feels like Faint★Star would tackle more of an electronic sound akin to some other units out there (maybe a little like 4te and FEMM).  The pulsating beat is effective and while the voices from YURIA and HINA aren’t exactly outside the norm, they blend to the arrangement smoothly and robotically.  For a debut track, it’s pretty decent and catchy.

2. Sleeping in your car

Though I wasn’t expecting the duo to ditch the synths for most of the remainder of the single.  Sleeping in your car feels a little more organic and quite poppy in difference to the leading track.  It reminds me of Vanilla Beans’ music almost with it’s slight throwback to some Western acoustic pop songs.  While I’m not much for this song in comparison to “koboreteshimattamizunoyouni”, it’s pleasant and summery.

3. Re-Mi-Ra

Next B-side up is Re-Mi-Ra and it feels like it mixes the styles of the previous two tracks to something pretty edgy and somewhat cooler in the long run.  I like the guitar riffs and sticks out nicely alongside the synth melodies.  The members are really feeling this and I feel the emotion here than in previous tracks.  It’s definitely the best from the single at least!

4. Super Summer Wonder

The final track from the single is a lot like what “Sleeping in your car” was like with the organic instrumentation and overall summer vibe (which makes sense because duh! title!).  Though this song REALLY sounds like a Vanilla Beans track even moreso, especially when you include strings behind the acoustic pop arrangement.  It’s nothing too special, but I suppose it’s nice.

What caught my attention to this group was that HINA was a former member of Tomato n’ Pine (before they disbanded in 2012 to reemerge here two years later!).  For a debut single, koboreteshimattamizunoyouni is an average single, but it’s definitely worth to listen to the A-side and Re-Mi-Ra.  The other two tracks is more natural sounding, but there’s not much to remember them by.
