Track Listing

  1. GO GiRL
  2. Sunrise
  3. Ima
  4. BRAND NEW DAY
  5. Chocolate Muffin
  6. GO GiRL (Instrumental)

1. GO GiRL

As the A-side I was surprised by the beginning that kind of felt groovy.  To me GO GiRL by the trio of DOMINO is the summer song from the group and it shows that quite blatantly.  The tune does a few things great and it’s catchy for some reason.  Sometimes I feel like they aren’t totally singing and just getting by with the synths and beats helping out.  Girly and definitely fitting for the hot season.

2. Sunrise

I like that the trio toned thing slightly down after “GO GiRL”.  Not much though since there’s still a constant beat and synths abound.  At least Yu-Mi, Shiori, and Mayu are actually singing and not speak/singing like the previous tunes.  I actually enjoyed this tune more than the previous one for sure and sounds like a good kind of summery song.

3. Ima

After two upbeat songs, Ima comes in as the single’s R&B ballad (well as close to one) and I also fell for the song since it’s probably the best tune to listen to their vocals.  I don’t know why but the first gal to sing has the best set of vocals IMO since it’s light and smooth while the other two vocals aren’t as such.  It’s nice, but since it’s one of those R&B songs, I tend to forget about the song anyways.

4. BRAND NEW DAY

Bringing the fun atmosphere back up, BRAND NEW DAY works just a bit like “GO GiRL” but a little more concrete with its arrangement and even though it gives off the same vibes from the A-side, this is much better of representation of the trio.  Nothing too wrong found here and the song is pretty enjoyable.

5. Chocolate Muffin

As the mini-album comes to a close, Chocolate Muffin is probably my favorite song off the single but it’s so light and cute to listen to and the vocals aren’t crappy either.  I think what caught me the most was the fact that the song was more acoustic than the previous tracks and it’s pretty unique on the single.  Need more songs like these.

As the trio’s first mini-album since debuting under SONY, DOMINO’s GO GiRL is my first release that I’ve listened to and for the most part I’m rather not phased by them.  I mean it is the typical summer release but I didn’t think the main track did much for me when the other tracks literally took over.  I do think three of the songs were passable while two weren’t.  I think I need to backtrack to the previous four singles for a much better vibe from them.
