1. BLING BLING MY LOVE

Huh, the song opens up with guys singing?  I wasn’t expecting, but at least after that Momoka kicks things up in the song.  I was afraid coming into this because J-pop can’t pronounce ~bling bling~ very well and when I hear the group sing it, it comes out as ~purin purin~.  I love the energy I do get from the song at least and it has a lot of cool moments for sure.  I still would rather hear the other girls more than Momoka, but at this point I think she’s kind of the ace/face of the group so why not cash it in more.  Cool song, definitely worth multiple listens.

2. Don’t You Wanna Dance

Then we have the B-side and I already can tell the group has a bit more attitude in this song and I actually prefer this to the leading track and I feel like there isn’t as much of line hogging to be found here and that’s great!  The beat is punchy and the group like I said sound a LOT more into this song than in “BLING BLING MY LOVE”.

As the 3nd single of the era, I definitely enjoyed this single as a whole a lot more than I did with “Super Hero/Love Me, Love You More.” since both songs were just solid dance tracks by them.  Like I said, could use less Momoka but nothing I can do.  If things keep on this way, they’ll become way better!

  3. Super Hero (Instrumental)
  4. Love Me, Love You More. (Instrumental)

1. Super Hero

I was surprised with Fairies continuing to release some cooler songs (over cutesy stuff).  Super Hero has some punch it and funny enough sounds like an early 90’s song which is kind of lulzy.  I will say the groove is really nice to hear and while I think Momoka is leading, they’re trying to push themselves a little more with some rapping sections.  I mean “Run With U” is still better, but I felt this was a good start to the era.

2. Love Me, Love You More.

The B-side of the single, is also rock-tinged.  To be honest, it sounds like some teenybopper’s take on a rock song which isn’t really all that great lol.  The chorus is the biggest offense to me lol.  I will say though, I wasn’t expecting the song to be friggin 2:17 in length which makes it such a super short B-side…but with the style of the song, it wasn’t surprising.

Didn’t expect Fairies to bounce back after their debut album as quickly as they did.  Super Hero was a pretty good A-side, not as good as many others, but it definitely works for them.  Love Me, Love You More. however was kind of pointless and pretty short of a song…was expecting more from them after the “Run With U” single…

Track Listing

  4. Song for You
  5. Beat Generation
  6. No More Distance
  7. HERO
  8. Sparkle
  9. Tweet Dream
  10. Sweet Jewel
  11. Run With U
  12. Poker Face feat. MOMOKA

1. Hikari no Hate ni

I’m a little disappointed that the group kicked the album with what could probably my least favorite A-side the group released.  Before then, we already had the idea the group were going to be a cool idol group with their A-sides.  Then their 6th A-side release and honestly this sounded uncharacteristic of them by opting for more a cuter anison sound for Hikari no Hate ni.  There wasn’t even a sense of there being any solos either so I just kind of forgot this song, though it is known as the single that came after Kawane’s departure from the group.

2. White Angel

Which is a stark contrast to our next track which was the A-side released before “Hikari no Hate ni”.  Even more that this song is my favorite from the album…yeah what a stretch right?  It’s such a straight up dance track and the energy was pretty cool with all the girls contributing lines (once again, no solo lines).  Still, the song was just pretty epic and brought back into enjoying the group’s music.

3. More Kiss

Then we move ALL the way back to their debut single.  When Fairies formed, I thought it was cool that avex was getting back to idols, though their first song, More Kiss was not the idea I had when I was getting into them like I did with TOKYO GIRLS’ STYLE.  I mean Momoka had the entire song to herself while the group were just dancing behind her.  Thank god they left that behind for the most part, but this song is kind of forgettable and plain compared to their later releases.

4. Song for You

Then came the other A-side from the single and I was kind of more interested in this one simply because the other members were stepping to the light unlike in “More Kiss”.  It does also suffer from a tired arrangement, but at least it tries to give a more punk sound but threw in some piano and synths as well.  It’s slightly grown on me since I first reviewed it at least!

5. Beat Generation

Skipping to the 3rd single they released, I actually started reviewing them when this single came out and I totally didn’t know they had released a second single before it.  I really liked this song as it has the girls throwing a little more effort to their music and the attitude of the song just screamed cool.  It was bombastic and showed a lot of potential from the group.

6. No More Distance

The other A-side from their 3rd single was a bit more chiller and took a more R&B tinged groove.  The ladies did try to harmonize a lot more within this song and mostly they were doing fine but sometimes it did go flat.  For being a ballad on the album (the only one really), No More Distance isn’t bad, but didn’t totally fit on the album IMO.

7. HERO

Going back to the leading A-side from their second single, I was surprised that I had missed out on it because it’s another song that showed some attitude (more than “Beat Generation” to be quite honest).  It’s got a fun beat and the group just had a lot of fun with this track.  Compared to the other cool songs, it’s one of those songs that is just fun to clap along with.  Surprising song and still enjoy it today!

8. Sparkle

I was surprised that we didn’t just seque into “Sweet Jewel” after the previous track but instead move into the second A-side from their 4th single.  With that single, I was really upset that the group went into the direction they did with both this and “Tweet Dream”.  What I mean is that, well this one is layered heavily with auto-tune alongside a dance beat and the layering sounds so amateur and the group isn’t one for strong vocals so it was pretty bad to listen to.  The arrangement is cool, but the vocals were just mediocre (was their two girls singing together during the song?).

9. Tweet Dream

It follows into the primary A-side with the same issues as “Sparkle” had.  Though this song was kind of that idol dance track while the previous track was more mature.  I don’t know but the auto-tune here was even more annoying here and the arrangement wasn’t helping the song any.  Yeah, I just loathe this song a lot!

10. Sweet Jewel

Returning to their 2nd single for their secondary A-side, Sweet Jewel is kind of like “Hikari no Hate ni” meaning that has that poppy idol sound.  The only difference is that the latter has a bit more in its arrangement while Sweet Jewel kind of just sounds cute and happy.  I couldn’t decide back then, but nowadays…it’s meh…not what I come to Fairies for to be honest.

11. Run With U

Finally, we get to their 7th single and final one released for the album and I loved it.  After the generic mess from “Hikari no Hate ni”, I was ready for cool Fairies to come back and while this isn’t as edgy as “HERO” or “White Angel” it’s quite progressive and very catchy of a song with cool verses and a fun chorus.  I was definitely pleased even though the limelight was once again mostly on Momoka >.>

12. Poker Face feat. MOMOKA

Wait…only ONE new song on this album?!?  How disappointing!  Even moreso that it’s a solo track from Momoka which just doesn’t do much for me appreciating the group.  For being the only new track, at least it has a cooler sound and nothing like the cuter stuff we heard from the group.  It’s a cool track, though the sudden triplets at the end of the chorus definitely were out of left field.  Overall, cool song, but I think we could’ve added the other 5 girls here.

Song of Avoidance

  • Tweet Dream

For a group that has been working for their debut album for 3 damn years, Fairies really got the short end of the stick here!  For the amount of A-sides we got and only ONE new track for just ONE members, I feel like avex wasn’t caring too much for the group.  I mean where’s the focus on the other members, it feels like I don’t know who they are except Momoka (except Sora…she’s stands out because of her short hair).  Their self-titled debut album was pretty disappointing but at least those songs are there…though I probably would’ve had “Wild Baby” over “Poker Face” and just let Momoka debut solo to be honest.

  4. Run With U (Instrumental)
  5. SILLY BOY (Instrumental)
  6. Wild Baby (Instrumental)

1. Run With U

Man, this group is just never gonna go back and forth are they?  With how disappointed I was with “Hikari no Hate ni”, they returned with Run With U and it fits amongst the more cooler songs the group has.  I quite liked the style of the song and the chorus is pretty catchy.  It seems there’s more girls singing as well which is always a good thing.  Good song, still not up there to beat “White Angel” but this is pretty good!

2. SILLY BOY

As for the B-side, I was expecting a plain ballad, but with a title like SILLY BOY, I was in for the surprise.  It actually kind of the same groove and edge which is great to hear.  Add that I hear the girls getting more a little more into the track and I think of “Beat Generation” and “HERO” with this one but has a bit more power and idol rapping in it and I quite enjoyed it!

3. Wild Baby

Well, this is a first, we get a second B-side (albeit on the CD only release of the single).  It begins with the group shouting the title before going to a more pop/rock feel for this.  I will say that the power of the song is good, but the shouting does kind of bother me in this song.  It’s a pretty good song overall and the chorus could be catchy, I just wished they didn’t shout the title lol.

FINALLY we can have an album from Fairies!  As their 7th and final before their self-titled debut comes out, Run With U made up for the shallow and bland mess they put out with “Hikari no Hate ni”.  All three songs are a bit more on the cooler side of Fairies and they all turned out well, especially the leading track and SILLY BOY.  I just wished the group focused more on this and less cute stuff.

  3. Hikari no Hate ni (Instrumental)
  4. Yell (Instrumental)

1. Hikari no Hate ni

It has been forever since we’ve seen the group release a single and they return with Hikari no Hate ni and I’m a bit undecided about the track.  I will say this is definitely a lot more idol-heavy than anything previous of there’s but it feels AMAZINGLY generic at the same time because it’s so genki and just bright.  Especially coming after “White Angel”, this song just came out of nowhere…Should’ve left this for SUPER GiRLS to handle, honestly.

2. Yell

Going into their B-side, it’s even moreso NOT Fairies because this song is an acoustic idol track and that’s very disappointing to me.  I mean the vocals are kind of all over the place, the arrangement is once again very generic…and overall…this is not what Fairies is.  Ugh….

This has got to be the worst single the group has done since their debut.  Both songs reek of this plastic, typical idol sound that it’s even more generic than it should be.  Did losing Kawane and having a sub-group ruin their trail?  Jeeze…after the amazing “White Angel”, this has got to be the biggest disappointing single of the year so far!  Fairies wtf are you doing?!?

Fairies – White Angel November 25, 2012

  1. White Angel
  2. One Love
  3. White Angel (Instrumental)
  4. One Love (Instrumental)

1. White Angel

It just seems that Fairies seem to get things right when things don’t work the first time.  White Angel is a lot like how I felt with “Beat Generation” because it’s just a really edgy song and a cool dance track.  It also has auto-tune but it’s not as atrocious as it was used in “Tweet Dream”.  I just love the pounding beat and the members are really giving it all.  Plus that chorus is just YAY!

2. One Love

HOLD UP!!!, this is their first legit B-side?  Yup, One Love marks as the groups first coupling track and it’s kind of just there when compared to other songs released in the era.  I’m not entirely sure how to feel because it’s kind of in between “No More Distance” and “Sweet Jewel”.  It’s not a terrible song, but it’s rather forgetful.

I would’ve expected that Fairies would’ve released their first album by now but here we are at their 5th single which is also their first single with ONE A-side.  White Angel is definitely an improvement from their last single by a big amount!  The leading track is really awesome and stands up there with “HERO” and “Beat Generation”.  One Love is OK, but nothing special…I can see why it was put as a B-side lol.

Fairies – Tweet Dream/Sparkle

Filed under: Fairies — solarblade @ 9:14 pm

Track Listing

  1. Tweet Dream
  2. Sparkle
  3. Tweet Dream (Instrumental)
  4. Sparkle (Instrumental)

1. Tweet Dream

I thought the group would continue with the epicness from “Beat Generation” but Tweet Dream is really annoying and cheap compared to their last single.  First off, the arrangement is kind of running through the idol/technopop phase most idol groups have tackled and I really don’t think it was necessary to drown the group in a giant goop of auto-tune ickyness.  It’s just amazingly horrid of a song and I don’t wanna witness it again.

2. Sparkle

*sigh* the auto-tune is also in Sparkle, but it’s not as annoying as “Tweet Dream” was which is good, but I would’ve loved to hear this single without the auto-tune because it probably would’ve been an epic song because the arrangement is strong (except the chorus which needed a heavier beat).  Yeah it’s not great but it’s better than the other A-side that’s for sure.

After being so impressed with their last single, Tweet Dream/Sparkle just wanted to destroy everything that Fairies had built on me.  The auto-tune was ridiculously bad here and Tweet Dream is just annoyance in a can which really made me want to go deaf for a while.  Sparkle was a smidge better, but it felt unfinished like there some key elements missing.  Just overall a bad single!
