Nana Nishino – Heaven ~Itoshii Hito e~ December 11, 2009

Track Listing

  1. Heaven ~Itoshii Hito e~
  2. Brand New days
  3. Heaven ~Itoshii Hito e~ (Karaoke)
  4. Brand New days (Karaoke)

1. Heaven ~Itoshii Hito e~

Well, Heaven marks a first for Nana Nishino.  It’s the first track she’s ever done in Japanese which is a long time coming.  Since it is a winter song, Heaven is surprising nice and sounds really pretty.  Though I’m not sure if it’s original or another answer song to ET-KING’s original, but I’ll say that her voice is nice.

2. Brand New Days

The following B-side is also in JPN which is great for me.  Instead of the ballad we got with “Heaven”, the song follow a more pop/rock style that’s been covered a few times with her last singles.  I like the guitar and drums riffs that were happening in the song and the doesn’t seem boring.  Surprise, surprise right?

As this is Nana’s 3rd single, Heaven ~Itoshii Hito e~ was definitely an upgrade from her first two singles.  I loved that she finally went and sung in Japanese and both Heaven and Brand New Days showed her off so much more better than the cheesiness of the previous two.   I wonder how her album is going to look like xD

Nana Nishino – Break away May 19, 2009

breakaway

Track Listing

  1. Break away
  2. Rinse
  3. OUT TONIGHT

1. Break away

So Nana’s second A-side has an edgier sound to it rather than “Open your eyes”.  It’s got a rocker sound to it, but it’s still overly considered to be almost generic almost.  I’ll say Nana has good vocals despite the otherwise boring arrangement.  I don’t know I thought this was an ok song, but not as memorable as “Open your eyes”.

2. Rinse

We calm things down for Rinse.  It’s still got a lot of guitars present, but she’s taking some of the speed off and she’s singing pretty well.  The only problem is that the song isn’t trying hard to pull you in and keep you interested, which is probably due from arrangement…but I actually like this a bit more than “Break away”.  Maybe I’ll get used to it more.

3. OUT TONIGHT

Finishing the single out, OUT TONIGHT is back to what she gave out back in the last single.  It’s a combination of pop and rock and the song is in English which is oddly surprising and she has slipups, but the song is very enjoyable and her vocals arent as stuck on a few notes as it is usually and attitude in the song was easy to feel for.  Then again, I guess it helps that it’s a cover of a RENT song….so easy to fall in love with right?

Nana’s 2nd single was a step down from her debut and I think rock isn’t her forte, but at least she’s having fun especially in OUT TONIGHT.  Break away was alright, but I’m not feeling this as much as I did with “Open your eyes”.  Rinse was Nana’s first slow song as she got through it alright, but still pretty meh to me.

openyoureyes

Track Listing

  1. Open your eyes
  2. Let it go
  3. Nobody’s Perfect

1. Open your eyes

Open your eyes has a basic pop/rock sound that kind of fits with her voice.  Nana’s voice sounds pretty good other than the fact that if it was released stateside it would’ve been a fail because it is quite unoriginal, but since her energy and the language difference fit.  Surprising track to debut with and it’s pretty good.

2. Let it go

The first B-side is actually quite a letdown after the energetic “Open your eyes”.  It’s pretty much a slower pop/rock track and it shows off Nana’s vocals, but the song is pretty forgettable in this case.  I do enjoy the songs PV and it shows her doing dance moves pretty smoothly and awesomely.  Sounds like if she heads towards the dance genre, she can be a great dancer!

3. Nobody’s Perfect

It’s so strange to see an artist cover an aliased star.  Well, Hannah Montana is sure one of them and Nana thought she can cover on of her biggest songs and is a guilty pleasure of mine.  Nana definitly didn’t disappoint with her rendition continuing with the pop/rock roots and she sounds pretty good in English as well.

Nana’s debut to me sounds like a JPN Kylee, but with less raw vocals, so she sounds mush controlled than her.  Now the single itself would sound bland in the states, but here it seems to be a fresh sound to all of the oddities that come by through the site.  Still, impressive, but her dancing skills are definitly high right now.
