1. Sayonara ~Mou Anata ni Kaeranai~

Though it’s been a while since this song has been out, I finally get to review the single!  Sayonara is one of the trio’s more upbeat and sweet-sounding tracks since it mixes their R&B vibes with this fitting island tone.  Of course Sophia sounds pleasant and AK does his lines just as nice as well.  It’s a good non-offensive track from the group so that’s a good thing!

2. Summer Lover

Which is kind of the problem of Summer Lover which is basically the same song but a little more brighter?  I don’t know but when I listen to this track after “Sayonara”, it really feels like this is just a bit of a clone which more of a summer vibe hence the title.  I guess I shouldn’t be totally disappointed, but I kind of am with this track.

3. Oh my Girl

By the time this song begins, I’m already tired of hearing Safarii here.  Oh my Girl though sees the single kind of taking more of an R&B take and it seems like AK does a lot more than he did in the previous songs but Sophia still takes up the prominent parts.  I do like hearing AK more especially his parts in the choruses.  Not bad…

I know it’s been a long time since this was released but finally I was able to lol.  Sayonara isn’t a bad song but this isn’t totally their best song because it’s a bit too safe.  Summer Lover suffered the same fate but it felt like a clone of the A-side…Oh my Girl though was a pretty catchy song and is the best off the single.  Hopefully it won’t be long before they announce a new single!

1. BAD DAY

I find it funny that the album opens with the trio’s 3rd and final A-side released for the era.  To me it stands out the most for me because unlike the other singles, this is upbeat and has a funky vibe going for it.  I also love that Sophia takes lead for the song while AK takes the bridges.  I liked her a lot more than him in this song since he didn’t fit with his part.  A great opening here!

2. Fly away

Our next song though is more of what I’ve been wanting to hear from them and it’s more upbeat (but not at the same happy party vibe that “BAD DAY” has).  If I didn’t know better and if AK wasn’t a part of the song, it would literally sound like a Miliyah Kato song but I’m ok with that because with how many slow songs I’ve heard…new upbeat songs are great to have.  I like this tune a lot!

3. bye bye

bye bye comes in next with a pretty calm vibe and takes up more of the R&B genre this time.  It does seem that AK and Obi rap and sing in this one and they sound pretty good for the most part and once Sophia enters in at the chorus I feel like this is a much better song than some of their B-sides they’ve had but not enough to stand out like the previous two songs.

4. HANA ~Kimi ni Deatta Kiseki~

As I learned from reviewing its single, HANA is actually an answer song for ORANGE RANGE’s “Hana”.  It shares some of the arrangement and the chorus is the same but different with the verses for AK (or Obi…I can’t tell) singing the song.  It’s still quite good and even though I did end of preferring “BAD DAY” over this, it’s definitely a good A-side as well.

5. Message

It seems they’re getting slower and slower and Message marks as an actual ballad from the trio.  Message is really pretty of a song if not a little bland as well.  I mean I love the strings in this song but when it’s just AK and piano, I’m pretty damn bored while once Obi comes in, I’m brought back in ^_^.  It does kind of drag after a while, but it’s still a comforting track no doubt.

6. Rain

Let’s be honest, I think Safarii’s A-sides of their sophomore album have been great and hasn’t let me down since it’s pretty difficult to decide which was the best and least favorite!  Rain for me stood out quite brightly because of it’s light reggae flavoring.  I liked that both male members led this song through the verses while Sophia blows through the chorus.  It’s a pretty song and I think it did better than “HANA” did to be honest.

7. Nada Sousou

It should come as no surprise that track 7 is a cover of the big BEGIN song of the same name.  Now I remember alan’s version of this song quite fondly and Sophia’s take of the song does not sound as good as I thought it would be.  Not saying it’s bad, but it’s more upbeat I guess?  All three members join her in the chorus which is nice, but I’m still not thinking this is a great cover.

8. Natsu no Owari, Koi no Owari

Ahhh the sounds of waves and acoustic guitar open up our next song and it stays as a breezy beach song with AK leading the verses.  It’s a pretty safe song for me and just kind of moves slightly like “HANA” but a bit more happier.  Yeah, this feels too safe and kind of too boring for me lol.

9. Glitter

I’m starting to get a little weary of these acoustic songs but Glitter at least tries to set itself apart from the others by bringing back synths and a dance beat and it actually works for me at this point since it sounds like “Fly away” but much brighter.  Sophia takes up the first verse while the other two guys take the second.  It really did wake me up after those last few songs!

10. Dear

So it seems they’ve added B-sides to the album starting with Dear from “HANA”.  It does remind me of “Rain” with such an interesting genre style (light reggaeton) but it actually works since everyone is singing and sounding very pleasant.  The weakest part for me was Sophia in the chorus…it sounds cheezy and kind of bland at the same time.  It’s nice overall however.

11. Broken Glass

Back to R&B, this is reminding me of “HANA” as well since it’s soft and this time around includes some finger snapping and a light arrangement.  Other than the smooth vocals from all three members, this song just flies by my ears and doesn’t leave much of an impression on me sadly enough.

12. Epilogue

You’d think they’d put a song with a title like this at the end, but it’s the track before the finale.  Like I said on the “Rain” review, Epilogue is simple, yet sweet but nothing I’d totally remember since it’s just that.  It falls into the other songs into this forgetful vibe.  I rather have had kept it on its respective single than adding it to the album.

13. We need love song

Closing out the album we another song that begins with waves crashing, We need love song (failed English aside) We need love song tries to end the album on a happy note and it does but likewise, Rain does this so much better for me.  AK does his rapping of course and it moves the song quicker than whenever Sophia sings but I still don’t remember it at the end of the day.

Song of Avoidance

  • Natsu no Owari, Koi no Owari

As Mou Ichido Waraeru Kara is the trio’s sophomore effort, I was kind of unimpressed with this album.  Their upbeat songs really do stand out a lot more than their soft and acoustic-based songs which doesn’t surprise me because all three of their vocals seem more suited than most of the tracks on here.  Ehhh, it was ok…nothing special really.

Safarii – HANA ~Kimi ni Deatta Kiseki~ September 11, 2011

Track Listing

  1. HANA ~Kimi ni Deatta Kiseki~
  2. Dear
  3. YOKOHAMA BAY
  4. HANA ~Kimi ni Deatta Kiseki~ (Instrumental)

1. HANA ~Kimi ni Deatta Kiseki~

Unlike the two other A-side of the era, HANA actually begins with AK instead of Sophia which is a little bit of a surprise to me.  Also while “Rain” was a light pop song while “BAD DAY” was the spazzy fun song, this is actually a moving ballad.  I also hear Oki later in the song with a few solo lines and he sounds a little different compared to AK but still good while Sophia is basically in the chorus.  I’d say it’s a good song…probably the best of the three songs.

2. Dear

Sophia returns to the front of Dear which has a light reggaeton with AK doin his rappin and all that.  I think that it grows from “Rain” but has much more interesting things going on.  It’s a fun little tune to get into since all three members have lines and the song doesn’t change too much from its start.  Not bad!

3. YOKOHAMA BAY

We get into the second B-side and I think Oki starts up with rapping while AK and Sophia sings.  Since it feels like the guys are taking over again it’s ok, but I like my Sophia damnit!  Even sadder is that they included auto-tune for this mid-tempo R&B styled song so when it’s heard it bothers me just a bit…SINCE IT’S USED IN THE CHORUS PREDOMINATELY.  I just can’t take this song like the other two…they should’ve not used auto-tune in a song like this…

Safarii’s second single of the era might have had the best A-side in HANA but the other two songs in the long run didn’t strike me as good as the other two singles did and YOKOHAMA BAY was just icky.  I wonder what the album will have.

Safarii – Rain

Filed under: Safarii — solarblade @ 4:43 pm

Track Listing

  1. Rain
  2. Epilogue
  3. Dear Mama
  4. Rain -Instrumental-

1. Rain

I love the sounds of rain falling opening up a song honestly. It’s so calming!  Anywho, the A-side begins with that before Sophia comes in with the opening lyrics and she sounds rather loud and the first half of the part sounded flat to me for some reason.  Once the actual arrangement (which is like light reggae and pop) enters the fray, it actually gets better and AK takes over for the verses and he sounds quite good.  The chorus though is the best part though since both members mix it up together.  I have to say this was pretty to listen to!

2. Epilogue

Kind of funny to find a song called Epilogue on a single don’t you think?  Unlike the previous song, it’s a bit more acoustic and it’s only Sophia singing in the song in the first half and then AK.  At least the harshness that I heard at the beginning of “Rain” was just a slip since this song really sounds pretty for Sophia’s vocals.  AK does his thing too and sounds good (maybe not the pseudo-rapping, but whatever).  Basic but clean song.

3. Dear Mama

We then get all R&B for the second B-side on the single and Dear Mama starts of with nice melodies between the members but we get AK rapping again but at the beginning.  Even Sophia is singing in a pace like AK too.  Think mihimaru GT’s more slower songs and you essentially get this without HIROKO’s nasallyness.  It’s alright, but I prefer the previous two tracks over this.

As the first single representing the “Mou Ichido Waraeru Kara” album, Rain was a good start.  Rain and Epilogue sounded really pleasant to the ears and I love the fact that it’s two of the three members singing together…though it does remind me of a nicer, relaxed sounding, more equality version of mihimaru GT.  Dear Mama was nice too, but it didn’t leave as much of an impression like the other two songs did.

Safarii – BAD DAY June 22, 2011

Filed under: Safarii — solarblade @ 4:14 pm

Track Listing

  1. BAD DAY
  2. Aikagi
  3. Kimi ga Warau Nara
  4. BAD DAY -instrumental-

1. BAD DAY

I like the vibrant arrangement of BAD DAY for sure since it’s pretty much Safarii’s version of “Koi wa groovyx2” or “Nande Nakitaku Nacchaun Darou”.  It’s funky and has a fun party vibe to it mixed with Sophia’s strong vocals.  The two other guy members do have background parts which fills the void a little more as well.  It’s a really nice song and I’m happy this was the first Safarii song I heard.

2. Aikagi

The next song tones things down into an acoustic ballad and I found this quite a pleasant listen.  I think it’s because of Sophia’s sweet yet powerful vocals.  I don’t know but I somehow get lulled into her vocals then the chorus comes in and one of the male members….(Not sure if it’s AK or Oki but either way) it does sound really nice as well.  Even though I’m still picky on R&B songs, this is an alright track.

3. Kimi ga Warau Nara

Closing the single out, Kimi ga Warau Nara is another acoustic track, but without the R&B touch-up and with less focus on Sophia oddly enough.  The song starts out with AK (or Oki) and he sounds really familiar…like close to sounding to Yuya Matsushita.  Sophia does come in for the second half of the verses but gets replaced by the guys in the chorus.  Simple song but pretty effective.

As this is the group’s 3rd single for their 2nd era, BAD DAY was pretty much a surprise on my end.  I know it’s my first time but I didn’t think the lead track was going to be so peppy and dancey.  Aikagi is more of what I thought I was gonna hear coming into this and Kimi ga Warau Nara is simple but nice.  I think it’s a pretty damn good single IMO.
