1. Introduction ~19:32~

Oi, how do you get away with all these interludes right?  Anyway our album begins with Sowelu leaving a message on someone’s phone…yeah that’s about it which is kind of unusual and starts the album in a weird way.

2. Arikitari no Yoru

Onto our first song from the album and Arikitaru no Yoru is a bit like the ligher stuff from “Let me…”.  It’s bright and lively and kind of jazzy at this same time (a little light but you know what I mean).  I like Sowelu’s voice though, it’s soft and cute to listen to.  I’m kind finding the chorus a little boring but it’s not bad.  Overall it’s a good first track to listen to.

3. The Final Pride

I kind of hoped that The Final Pride was going to be something big and powerful but we got a clone of “Arikitaru no Yoru” since it’s bright as well and has this R&B style going (like stuff from her SONY days).  I’m just not really into this song and it kind of lacks things that would make me remember it.

4. Milk Interlude ~22:22~

It’s really weird that I think Sowelu is singing in the tub and all.  BTW, she’s singing Chara’s song of the same name which was interesting.  I liked that it was acappella and Sowelu sounds really pretty and airy singing the song.  Just a little creepy that it’s in a bathtub 😄

5. Misty

Moving into Misty, which is a ballad, I think it was nice the interlude came before since both tracks are sung in Sowelu’s quieter tones.  Since it’s just really piano and pipe organ, it’s a really quiet and bare-boned song.  To me it’s pretty because of Sowelu but the arrangement is just boring and lacks a lot of movement.  It actually almost has a gospel tinge to it…take it as you will…but this was nice.

6. Interlude ~23:56~

Another interlude after “Misty”?  It’s just 18 seconds of a clock tick-tocking…like WTF is that all about…almost as bad as BoA’s interludes from “IDENTITY”.

7. 29 Tonight

A 6 and a half minute song to represent that album?  It’s like “Misty” but they added a beat a more instruments to play along with.  I like that it kind of is about the fact she turned 29 and all that.  I just like that it’s one of those songs to sing with and sounds sentimental.  I did feel like it started to drag towards the end though…and got repetitive…too long!

8. happy birthday

After sitting through that ditty, happy birthday isn’t as poppy and cutely as I tend to usually expect from artsits.  Actually, the song is kind of like “29 Tonight” but not as long and not as repetitive.  It’s kind of like your teenybopper music which isn’t bad persay but it’s kind of like…obvious cheesy lines are present.

9. Time Capsule no Oka

At least we get into a more serious side with Time Capsule no Oka which is also a piano-led ballad but with little tinges of jazz (I think?).  At this point in the album I kind of want something a little more upbeat and this song doesn’t seem to really interest me very well.  Oh well…

10. Ex-Love.

I just can’t with this album anymore lol.  Ex-Love. is just really bland and forgetful for some reason.  I mean the interesting thing of the song is the twisting sound that happens every so often…it’s different but the rest of the song is just light R&B with with pipe organ and I’m bored otherwise XD.

11. Oh my memories feat. toshinori YONEKURA

Kind of taking a little rip out of “Love & I.”, we get a collaborative song and I kind of find this pleasant for some reason.  I mean Oh my memories isn’t any different from “Ex-Love.” at all but adding toshinori is quite needed and both of them sound great together.  Plus the chorus is really catchy and pretty to the ears.  Not my style once again, but it’s prolly the best the album has to offer.

12. Interlude ~2:00~

9 seconds…of just water running….that’s just totally trolling the listeners out there.

13. Amatsubu no Birthday

Which flows straight into our next slow song in Amatsubu no Birthday.  The song sounds sentimental (like most of the other album tracks).  I just kind of zone out with this song because it doesn’t have much of anything to pull you in and Sowelu’s voice furthers the notion to zone out because it’s so quiet and such.  Just boring!

14. Interlude ~2:20~

The final interlude kind of mirrors the intro but it’s so short though.  The phone rings, Sowelu answers, a guy speaks and Sowelu speaks back.  I mean that’s about it…ugh…

15. Present

Yeesh, we finally come to the final track and it disappoints as well.  It’s fottong since it’s a ballad and all but I feel like at this point I would just quit the album.  I kind of forgot how it goes which is why it’s so unbelieveably forgettable.  Oh well…

Song of Avoidance

  • Amatsubu no Birthday

Well Sowelu is on her hiatus now and decided to leave THIS album behind??  It’s so unbelievably boring and lifeless cept for the three songs above.  29 Tonight is such a fall back after how awesome the two tracks that promoted “Let me…” were.  It was like “Love & I.” but without all the collaborations.  It just didn’t feel like it was a goodbye and just musically bored me to death…This could be her WORST album since she debuted.

Sowelu – Let me… August 29, 2011

Filed under: Sowelu — solarblade @ 9:16 pm

Track Listing

  1. I want U to… feat. WISE Produced by ☆Taku Takahashi (m-flo)
  2. Let ME Lead U
  3. WOMAN
  4. One more kiss (for MEN edition only)
  5. Diamond (for WOMEN edition only)
  6. Endless Summer
  7. Kimi no Nai Sekai

1. I want U to… feat. WISE Produced by ☆Taku Takahashi (m-flo)

Starting the mini-album with the first of two promotional songs is the lone collaboration tune.  Now, Sowelu isn’t a stranger to Taku’s arrangements since he produced “MATERIAL WORLD” which is literally her last single released.  Though I have to admit that Taku shouldn’t really try to do dubstep since it feels weird but yet I still found myself liking the song.  WISE does a good job adding a bit more spice to song and just makes the tune that more enjoyable.  It might come off as messy to some people or others will just love it…it depends.

2. Let ME Lead U

I’m gonna be frank about it and say I love this song ten times more than the opening track just because it’s dance done well (and that’s a surprise coming from Sowelu).  It’s sexy, groovy and mysterious and it just oozes this new side of Sowelu perfectly IMO.  The chorus is also pretty damn catchy to listen to and especially the second half of it where she’s just like ~i…want you…now!~  Yeah, I love this song and she gets censored OH MY! hehehe!

3. WOMAN

After two synth-bombers it’s comes to a sudden halt when WOMAN starts up.  It’s pretty basic of a song with not a lot going on in the arrangement cept finger snapping, acoustic guitar, and some light percussion.  For something so simple it kind of fits Sowelu nicely as it’s not abrasive nor out of character even though I question why it had to be after “Let ME Lead U”….

4a. One more kiss

So the mini album comes in two versions of course and each of them have a different fourth track.  The for MEN version comes with One more kiss which would be a nice nostalgic run for the fans of her days on SONY since it’s R&B and all the bells and whistles that come with it.  I mean it’s really alright, but nothing stands for me in this track (maybe the verses) but that’s about it for me.

4b. Diamond

Strange that the WOMEN’s only comes with another dance track.  I must say that it is a pretty consistent beat to it that works for me and Sowelu sounds quite nice.  Though it’s weird that she hits high notes in the chorus but I can’t blame it since it didn’t detract me from the tune.  It doesn’t have the punch that the promotional songs had, but it’s pretty good as un upbeat tune.

5. Endless Summer

She seems to be hitting different styles and moods on this mini because while Endless Summer would have fit better have “Let ME Lead U” since it has synths and such it does pick up after the two slower songs.  It’s a really nice summery song and Sowelu sounds breezy to sing along.  I can find myself enjoying this a lot!

6. Kimi no Nai Sekai

Closing the mini is Kimi no Nai Sekai which is another ballad but has a little more emotional value than “WOMAN” but the latter does have the better lyrics I think.  The strings and kind of uber light R&B feel to it fits and I don’t think I’ve heard Sowelu pull off a better ballad since she has really nice vocals in this song.  Did very well for itself I must say.

I couldn’t get myself back into “Love & I. ~Ren’ai Henriki” because it was plainly a boring album with just a couple of hitters and that was her first album under rhythm zone.  Luckily her first mini-album Let me… was such a strong release at least in my eyes that this is what she should’ve done and not a collaboration album XD.  Half the mini was upbeat dance tunes while the other was a more refined, calm side.  Yeah, this was pretty damn good even with the naughty cover art (the women’s one is so lulzy with turkey!).

Sowelu – Love & I. ~Ren’ai Henriki~ December 2, 2010

Track Listing

  1. NEVER feat. VERBAL (m-flo)
  2. Koboresou no Kuchibiru feat. Mummy-D (RHYMESTER)
  3. Snow again duet with Douchin Yoshikuni (CHEMISTRY)
  4. Make It Last Forever duet with MIHIRO
  5. Toshishita no Kimi ni duet with Daichi Miura
  6. Very First Christmas feat. SHUHEI (Asia Engineer)
  7. Koko mo Soko mo… duet with KG
  8. Mannerism feat. RYO-Z (RIP SLYME)
  9. Chikai no Kami duet with ISEKI (Kimaguren)
  10. My Love is
  11. The moment i saw you with Sowelu / SOFFet (bonus track)

  13. I am GHOST -Kodoku na Jinsei- feat. Sowelu / G (bonus track)
  14. Kimi wo Omou yo… feat. Sowelu / Quadraphonic (bonus track)

1. NEVER feat. VERBAL (m-flo)

Opening this uhm…collaboration album? I’m not sure what it is XD.  Anyways the first song to promote the album, Sowelu gets with VERBAL and I was wondering what the song would be like because Sowelu’s return to R&B and VERBAL’s (mostly boring) rapping comes in.  I like the aggressive nature of the loud parts of the song mixed in with Sowelu’s softer vocals in the verses sound great together.  I am happy that VERBAL sounds into it, but it’s a bit random in connection to the main arrangement so there’s a noticeable riff going on.  Otherwise, it’s not a bad start and the song is rather good besides the awkward transitioning through the rap.

2. Koboresou no Kuchibiru feat. Mummy-D (RHYMESTER)

The 2nd of the promotional songs, Koboresou no Kuchibiru takes a chill pill and has this sexy glow to it that I really enjoyed about it since Sowelu’s vocals stand out a whole lot better than I thought it would.  I think she’s gotten quite better through her vocals.  The added background vocals were a little surprising and of course Mummy-D’s rap doesn’t exactly fit in the song since he’s rapping at the speed of light >.>  Otherwise, it’s a good mid-tempo tune and it’s more sexually charged than the last song.

3. Snow again duet with Douchin Yoshikuni (CHEMISTRY)

Getting into the album’s first ballad and duet with 1/2 of CHEMISTRY.  Snow again might be the first slipup just because the music isn’t exactly anything exciting and sadly, Douchin overpowers poor Sowelu.  I will admit that his vocals are pretty solid, but the song just kind of bores me a little bit otherwise.

4. Make It Last Forever duet with MIHIRO

It’s saddening that the next song on the album is just as forgettable as “Snow again”.  Fortunately MIHIRO and Sowelu sound better and together than the previous song which is a blessing.  I do think that MIHIRO does get more parts which is totally unnecessary, but I liked this a bit more.  Musically, it’s bland still, but I’ll live!

5. Toshishita no Kimi ni duet with Daichi Miura

One of the songs I was looking forward to listening to, Sowelu’s collaborative effort with “natural beauty” Daichi Miura ended up being one of the best songs off the album.  Unlike the previous songs, Toshishita no Kimi ni is actually more of a dance track and it’s a great change of pace.  I liked how they mixed it up with each other and they sang quite nicely.  One of my favorites from the album.

6. Very First Christmas feat. SHUHEI (Asia Engineer)

I guess we do need a few Christmas songs on the album and with Very First Christmas, they return into the minimalistic R&B sound that kind of filled most of the album so far and while musically, it’s not impressive, Sowelu’s singing is very pure and pretty to listen to.  However, SHUHEI is just trying too hard in this song and kind of took me out of the song before Sowelu returning.  It’s alright, would’ve been better without SHUHEI tbh.

7. Koko mo Soko mo… duet with KG

Then we enter the third track to represent the album and I was like…this is softcore porn music for sure.  The mood is very sexual and with Sowelu’s sensual sounding vocals and the whole ~I wanna make love to you~ in the chorus is just naughty.  Add in KG’s singing and it’s just as raunchy…Iono, but it’s catchy in it’s smooth glow and mood.  I liekd this quite a bit.

8. Mannerism feat. RYO-Z (RIP SLYME)

Hey!  I’m happy we get another dance track on the album with Mannerism and it’s got a catchy riff to it and mixed in with the more happier sound that most of the songs kind of don’t show, I was impressed.  Once again we get an MC who has to show that he’s the fastest rapper and I was annoyed once again by that.  Otherwise without RYO-Z, this is a fun song to listen to.

9. Chikai no Kami duet with ISEKI (Kimaguren)

Probably the oddest song off the album, Chikai no Kami doesn’t sound like any of the other songs from the album simply because it’s a bit more pop/rock than all the other songs.  I’m not too fond of ISEKI’s voice since he sounds offkey most of the time when he’s singing along with Sowelu and you can tell quite obviously, but when he’s by himself, it’s nice.  It’s alright, but not my favorite.

10. My Love is

As the only song that has Sowelu by herself, I knew somehow the song was going to be another one of the slow R&B songs that we’ve all grown to love from her career.  I am happy that there’s no guy to really deter the enjoyment of the song, but I still think she could’ve done something a bit more powerful for her first solo song under avex.  I guess it makes a good album closer and appropriate one as well.

11. The moment i saw you with Sowelu / SOFFet

As we pass into the bonus tracks of the album all the remaining songs have been previously released through the other artists in other ways digitally and physically.  Of course I’m not too familiar with SOFFet’s music but the jazzy and fun vibe of this song is pretty interesting and kept me listening to it for the entire song because it was so different from the other songs.  The only thing that kind of made it fail was the rapper…he just kind of ruined the mood with his annoying rap…blah still I liked this jazz song!

12. HOT BODY / S’capade feat. Sowelu

Like I said before, Sowelu’s more danceable songs are the best thing to listen to and I was overly ecstatic to see HOT BODY make the album’s cut since it’s edgy, slick, and just very fitting.  Now I would actually called this her solo song since S’capade is like nowhere to be seen in the song…Maybe S’capade is the arranger.  Still, it’s one of the better upbeat songs I’ve heard of 2010.

13. I am GHOST -Kodoku na Jinsei- feat. Sowelu / G

If I remember this was G’s debut song and was a collaboration with our girl Sowelu.  I have to remember that Sowelu is the secondary singer so of course she doesn’t have as many lines as G.  I’ll be honest though that G’s vocals are kind of too soft and whispery to really make me enjoy it, but I did love Sowelu’s parts (mostly the bridges of the song).  I guess I didn’t like it as much as say…”HOT BODY”…

14. Kimi wo Omou yo… feat. Sowelu / Quadraphonic

Finally ending the full album off, we get the most recent collaboration as Sowelu being the secondary act with Kimi wo Omou yo…  I actually wished the arrangement wasn’t as plain as butter since I think Sowelu and the lead singer of Quadraphonic sounds really nice singing together.  It just kills me that the music is so bland for me…still one of the more vocally impressive collabs.

Song of Avoidance

  • Snow again duet with Douchin Yoshikuni (CHEMISTRY)

It’s quite sad that we had to wait for so long before we saw Sowelu debut under rhythm zone and that debut to be mostly yawn-inducing.  I wish she could’ve just scratched out the collaborations she did and went solo by herself since that would’ve made a few songs pop out better.  Even then, I know Sowelu’s an R&B artist, but it wouldn’t kill to have another electro track like “MATERIAL WORLD” now would it?  Ehhh…let’s hope she releases singles before her next album…

Track Listing

  1. MATERIAL WORLD
  2. Time After Time
  3. MATERIAL WORLD <WTF EDIT>
  4. MATERIAL WORLD -instrumental-

1. MATERIAL WORLD

I cannot stress how much this song rawks!  Not only is it a step out of her zone, it’s a Taku produced single which automatically makes it well worth the listen.  Anyways the single version is a bit longer than the one found on the PV, practically almost 2 minutes longer and thank god.  The extra verse and chorus just made it so much better, but the transition to the slow piano part is worse here in my opinion because it just happens.  It’s hard to believe she did have to go to Taku to get such a powerful and rockin’ track.

2. Time After Time

It’s surprising, because Cyndi Lauper has some really good songs and Time After Time is one of her biggest songs in her career and having Sowelu cover it is a big thing.  Unlike the original which was a heartfelt ballad song, Sowelu’s is a more dance-friendly version.  I do think Cyndi’s version is still better because it was an emotional song and Sowelu’s lack of emotional connection does hinder it a bit, but it’s alright.

3. MATERIAL WORLD <WTF EDIT>

Anyways the remix of MATERIAL WORLD is more hardcore as a rock song.  It switches the importance between synths and rock band stuff and honestly this is definitly something I wouldn’t imagine encountering in her discography.  It does sound complete and cool, but it doesn’t come close to touching the original.

I think this is definitly a single that could make her stand out.  MATERIAL WORLD is just trance heaven and makes me happy.  The edit was a cool change of sounds and even though it’s not perfect it makes a good counterpart.  Time After Time was known beforehand and actually did fit on the single, who knew?  Still I’m shocked at this.
