  10. Namida no Ame

1. Koi no Tenki Youhou

The group opens up their debut album with their debut A-side!  Koi no Tenki Youhou was a nice way to get us into the group.  I still think the song sounds like it could’ve been a Girls’ Generation song because of it’s beat and cute vocals.  Plus the chorus is so K-pop that it’s just rather odd coming from a group like this.  Not a bad debut and maybe my favorite of the three?

2. Koi no Love♥Sunshine

Moving onto the 3rd and final A-side released, Koi no Love♥Sunshine.  It’s really more of the same that we got from our previous track funny enough, but the group sounds more together and throwing some emotion behind the lyrics which is a nice touch.  I don’t know but it didn’t have the same snap and memorability like the aforementioned tune.  It’s still passable with it’s peppyness and sweet vocals.

3. Koi no Love Game

Getting into our first new song, Koi no Love Game really harkens back to 80’s pop music and the beat is what is driving the song forward and I kind of like it.  Of course the song still has it’s K-pop tendencies which is nice and all but three songs in a row with it, might get tiresome.  Though the spelling and upbeat cuteness of the song kind of won me over.  I definitely think it’ll easily get stuck to me like “Kimi Youhou” did…it’s a fun song!

4. Koi wa Tokimeki Chuuihou

Wow 4 songs in a row that has a title that starts with ~Koi~  That’s really scary.  As the group’s 2nd A-side, Koi wa Tokimeki Chuuihou has charm but I’ve already lost interest in the song because it doesn’t really change the feel of the album yet.  Though the arrangement is more engaging to me, but everything else felt overdone.  It kind of makes me wonder if I heard this somewhere else on the album, I’d enjoy it better…

5. CHEWING GUM

Back into some more new tracks, CHEWING GUM comes first and it kind of continues a streak of not so memorable songs.  Te previous song felt like they had energy but this one felt almost too slow for me.  Plus the group is singing one-dimensional so it adds more boredom to me.  I don’t know what else to say about the song but it did nothing for me.

6. Kaminari Day

I don’t know why but now I feel like the album is going downhill.  Kaminari Day does kind of push the group from the K-pop sound to a more J-pop idol kind of track that includes piano and guitars.  That’s nice and all, but the group sounds uninterested again and even worse is that the song is kind of generic as well.  Meh…

7. Cherry Cherry Boom Boom

At least things switch up.  While the song keeps the guitars, the tune sounds a little more serious sounding than what I’ve been hearing on this album.  Add that the members actually sound really good here.  I was kind of expecting they were only able to cutesy songs, but this was a neat surprise.  Might not have made sense on the album, but I was expecting something like this and it’s one of the best songs on the album!

8. Loving Pass ~Koi no Password~

Of all the amazing B-sides the group released, they had to choose this one?  I still think the male intro is so creepy, but the song suited the album more towards the front (make it the 5th song with ~Koi~ in the title XD).  It’s not a terrible song and it’s got a lot of catchy parts and there’s some cool parts (although the male voice just needs to not be there).

9. Because of You -Hitori no Yoru-

Moving into our final patch of new tracks, Because of You is the album’s ballad.  It’s a pretty simple piano/strings/bass one and it seems like most of the members have lines to themselves which is a nice change and they sound really pretty when they want to be.  Might not be a ballad to stand the test of time, but it was a pleasant listen overall.

10. Namida no Ame

The album funny enough ends with a title that sounds almost sad “Rain of Tears” but turns out to be a mid-tempo dance track.  I thought it was OK, but acceptable as the final track, but there’s nothing significant to me.  At least the group has some good high notes here.  Still…meh…though the ending where they’re like ~I love you…bye bye~ and ends was so cute!

Song of Avoidance

  • Kaminari Day

So our Taiwanese idol group got their debut album!  WEATHER GIRLS as a debut was kind of disappointing.  It just felt like they were riding on the K-pop AND idol wave that’s been going on and unfortunately got some pretty generic offerings (sans a couple).  I wished they added “Kimi Youhou” and “Tonight’s weather” as they both were SO much better than most songs on this album…I hope they get better!

Track Listing

  3. Koi no Love♥Sunshine (Instrumental)
  4. Tonight’s weather (Instrumental)

1. Koi no Love♥Sunshine

Onto the group’s 3rd A-side, Koi no Love♥Sunshine is credited to be their summer A-side and it does sound like one too which we all know how much I LOVE those and there’s only a couple of songs that are actually good like KARA’s “GO GO Summer!”.  That being said, this track actually kind of reminds me of some AKB-related summer songs but with a tad more synths involved.  Though it does have a certain K-pop flair about it too which is something they’ve been known for since their debut.

2. Tonight’s weather

After knowing the group for a while and decided that they have better B-sides than their A-sides XD.  Tonight’s weather is just another reason because while it’s a bit more cheesy musically, it’s got a better structure and the vocals are so nice to listen to.  It’s very nice of a song and while I LOVE THE SHIT out of “Kimi Youhou”, this is a good contender!

As they come up to their first album, Weather Girls saved the best for last with Koi no Love♥Sunshine.  Finally, an A-side that I can get behind even though it does fall into the typical summer pop song category, at least Tonight’s weather is there to fully make the experience complete!  I’m curious for the album now! ^_^

  4. Kimi Youhou (Instrumental)

1. Koi wa Tokimeki Chuuihou

Where have I heard that ~are you ready?~ before…Anyways, the group’s second effort is kind of fun to listen to and has even more of that K-pop sound going but it’s Japanese….identity crisis!!!  I have to say though the song is quite catchy and super genki too with all those interjections from the different members in the song…it’s just so happy and girly.  I kind of like the arrangement, but tone the hyperness down a bit!

2. Kimi Youhou

At least the B-side is a bit more together and actually sounding really nice.  I feel like their electronic pop style suits them, but with this, I honestly feel like this is their best song yet as a group.  It’s incredibly catchy and something about its bright lyrics just seems so adorable and just right.  Yeah…impressed!

The group’s second single, Koi wa Tokimeki Chuuihou is a step up from “Koi no Tenki Youhou” honestly.  The A-side is fun and brings out the girly personality of the group to a VERY high level and it might grate on some people, but it’s a fun track still.  Kimi Youhou though was amazing and surprised this wasn’t an A-side as it’s catchy and brings the meaning of Weather Girls up there.

Track Listing

  1. Koi no Tenki Yohou
  2. Loving Pass ~Koi no Password~
  3. Koi no Tenki Yohou (Instrumental)
  4. Loving Pass ~Koi no Password~ (Instrumental)

1. Koi no Tenki Yohou

I was rather shocked that Jeff Miyahara produced this track (just simply because he usually does R&B tracks with JUJU and all that).  The song is kind of surprisingly cute and somewhat catchy to listen to.  It’s just bouncy and has a certain SNSD quality about it that stands out too.  As for the girls, they sound good and join in the fun atmosphere.  I’m still unsure of why it’s popular for people, but hey whatever works!

2. Loving Pass ~Koi no Password~

At first I thought the guy said ~hey! waiter girls!~…Oh well.  Loving Pass sounds a bit more K-pop for some reason which is pretty damn cool to hear.  The vocals are more sugary sweet and there’s less solo lines when compared to “Koi no Tenki Yohou” but I’m OK with that because it shows the group can stick together and sing together well!  I liked this a lot!

Unlike a certain other group I just reviewed (Model Girls…), Weather Girls is kind of teetering as an idol group and a K-pop group for some reason but with their Koi no Tenki Yohou single, they sound great and slightly refreshing for a Taiwanese group.  I hope to hear more because I liked this single quite a bit!
