1. Still Alive (The Theme of Mirror’s Edge) (radio edit)

Well, we begin this album of the same song with pretty much what we all know of from this game.  Still Alive is sung by Lisa Miskovsky and she did a real good job of putting the song.  It’s a pretty moving song and definitly an interesting song to have put in a game such as Mirror’s Edge.  The music starts with a nice piano melody and then adds synth and drums and other things.  The chorus would be the only thing I do worry about because there isn’t much into it.  Other than that, it is shorter than the main version of course.

2. Still Alive (Benny Benassi mix radio edit)

I know who Benny Benassi is of course.  I love his songs for sure and I was excited to see that he put his part into this remix.  It starts out kind of like the original minus a few things and it sounds like Lisa is singing a little faster as well.  The dance beat starts up right at the chorus, and then it’s lead into this trance sound which covers it up.  Now for us, this is a shortened version which is definitly a plus in my book.  It goes back to being just Lisa and BKGD singers for the second verse and it really sounds kinda strange keep going bac and forth between trance and quiet.

3. Still Alive (Paul van Dyk mix radio edit)

Ithink Paul van Dyk did a better job than Benny’s radio edit.  We immediatly get sucked into trance mode for this one and even better, he incorporates the main melody into the song mostly in the chorus.  It also quiets down after a while, but we eventually get back into the hypnotic beats.

4. Still Alive (Armand van Helden mix)

Think of Utada’s m-flo remix of “Distance”.  It starts with bits and pieces of the chorus all mashed up randomly into each other to create a beat.  There’s also distortions given to this area as well changing it up, but I really didn’t enjoy this remix because it didn’t really make sense.  There’s low synths here that Nakata could be proud of.  Just turn this off plz.

5. Still Alive (Benny Benassi mix)

Benny Benassi truly does better with longer remixes because he has time to gradually add or take away things.  Anyways, this is actually longer than 8 minutes and it still isn’t the longest song on the album.  You’ll eventually hear what the “radio edit” had in it of course…but all it is is a way longer version of the song.

6. Still Alive (Junkie XL mix)

Why does Junkie XL sound familiar, didn’t the remix one of melody.’s tracks perhaps?  The remix starts of very twinkly and really doesn’t go into trance mode either which is a breath of fresh air.  It still does have dance beats, but it’s more casual if you know what I mean.  The chords in the chorus really sound strange to me for some reason but everything else is actually nice and calm.  Cool remix.

7. Still Alive (Teddybears mix)

Clapping beats start this fun remix off.  I actually love the bass here because it’s practically the beat as with the clapping as well.  Lisa vocals are on double echo mode which will throw people off hearing this.  It also does seem the vocals are sped up here as well.  Definitly another good remix.

8. Still Alive (Paul van Dyk mix)

Longest track right here crossing 9 minutes…It’s definitly one of those typical trance songs.  You know they start up with the beat and eventually grows into the melody?  Yeah, it’s that obvious.  I also love hearing the bass as well here which kind of made the mix a little better.  It still doesn’t make it that good.

9. Still Alive (The Theme of Mirror’s Edge)

Finally we get into the original track.  Anyway the song does have a longer beginning and is a little slower thean the edits.  Still it’s got such an ethereal sound to it which is definitly something new to Vocal songs to a VideoGame.  Now I have another version that’s a minute longer than this which is weird, at least for me.  I guess my version has a longer ending.

10. Still Alive (Paul van Dyk short version)

There’s a 3rd version of this certain remix?  My goodness.  Even then the radio edit is shorter than this so giving it this title is definitly wrong in itself.  I’d call it middle version since it’s over 6 minutes.  I can actually listen to this one fully and not be bored with because it doesn’t drag like the long one does or makes it sound cramped like the radio edit.

11. Still Alive (The Theme of Mirror’s Edge) (US radio edit)

Seriously?  What is the exact difference between this and the 1st track?  I mean it’s basically the exact track played all over again.  Maybe there’s a slight change of sound but I’m not too exactly sure.  Anyways, I actually like the longer versions more than the shorter ones because there’s more time to enjoy the music.

Tracks Recommended

  •  Still Alive (The Theme of Mirror’s Edge)
  • Still Alive (Junkie XL mix
  • Still Alive (Teddybears mix)
  • Still Alive (Paul van Dyk short version)

My goodness, this OST, should’ve had more variety.  Like you could have switched styles on some of them because seriously, this was just trance/dance blah blah blah.  Maybe an original track could’ve been nice to hear as well, not to say Still Alive was bothering me or anything, but this many remixes for one song?  Too much.  Still the original is awesome
