MAXIMUM THE HORMONE – ○○○○○○ August 30, 2023

000000

Track Listing

  1. Koi no America
  2. Koi no Kinako Watashi ni Kudasai

1. Koi no America

Seems like we got another fun track with MAXIMUM THE HORMONE’s next A-side!  It really seems like MTH is just letting the fun come to them and their songs are becoming more sillier as time goes on with this one kind of being a love song to America!  Of course with a song like this the band goes everywhere genre-wise from heavy metal to punk and to even techno for a little bit.  Seeing more of Nao and Ue-chan is great and they sounded pretty good on top of Daisuke-han and Ryo-kun’s growls and vocals, it just came together pretty well even if some of the sections are a little all over the map?  I still quite enjoyed it!

2. Koi no Kinako Watashi ni Kudasai

So the B-side of the single is actually not a new song, but a new recording of the song from their 2005 album, “Rokkinpo Goroshi”.  I’ve forgotten what this one sounded like, but hearing this, I’m liking hearing Nao leading the track with a more quiet arrangement compared to “Koi no America”, at least until it gets halfway and the song amps up pretty quickly with Ryo-kun singing.  It is kind of meh that it’s only 2 minutes in length, but I suppose it’s a nice self-cover.

Has been a while since we’ve seen MAXIMUM THE HORMONE release something (at least physically).  About ○○○○○○, it’s kind of a shorter single for them and I’m kind of surprised they didn’t add on some of their digital releases they’ve done in the past few years now.  Koi no America is fine, not as good as their last A-side for sure and redoing Koi no Kinako Watashi ni Kudasai is interesting, I kind of wanted more out of this single.  I’m hoping an album is coming soon, to be honest.

Kaya – VILLAINS August 29, 2023

villains

Track Listing

  1. Villain
  2. Malefica
  3. Call me Cruella (MALEFICA type only)
  4. Oware na Hitobito -Poor Unfortunate Souls- (VILLAIN type only)

1. Villain

Opening the single is the first A-side and maybe title track, Villain starts out kind of like how “Kinjiki” from their previous album sounded with the kind of jungley, mystical vibe though Villain has more of a rockin’ atmosphere, but still retains this kind of mysterious dark-side vibe to it and I really enjoyed that.  Of course, Kaya sounds pretty good and dramatic as it should.  This was pretty different, but I like the dark dramatics going on and the arrangement is pretty engaging too!

2. Malefica

Touted as another A-side, Malefica is more of the typical electronic track and Kaya never seems to misses with these songs which is pretty good.  I do like the small licks of rock throughout and Kaya even throws some pretty quickly-paced lyrics in the verses.  I will say, Malefica is feeling like it’s missing something about it, maybe a heavier beat perhaps?  It’s OK, just not one of his bests

3. Call me Cruella

So the single splits through editions and it comes with a different cover B-side (both being Disney covers, funny enough).  Also worth mentioning that these two next tracks have been known for quite some time (this one a little over a year while the other one for over 2).  Since this is a cover of a song from Cruella (the movie), this one is kind of different to the other songs on the single.  I do like the focus on the rock elements here, but Kaya does a lot of sexy speaking and then other times, belting hard which is just such a switch.  Interesting choice to cover Florence + the Machine though.

4. Oware na Tabibito -Poor Unfortunate Souls-

The other cover is a bit more recognizable, being the song Ursala sings in The Little Mermaid.  Of course Kaya’s vocals oozes such a mood in this cover and I felt like Kaya did such a really good job on this one and his powerful vocals are really put out there and just sounds so good with the strings arrangement.  Very interesting take and LOVED the theatrics played out in this one, Kaya really lived up to the cover!

Kaya’s newest single after “ROSE” is pretty interesting taking on a motif for the full release.  I feel like VILLAINS is a modest start to a new album era.  I do enjoy Villain a lot and Kaya just continues to do wonders with his music.  While I do think Malefica is not quite up to par, it’s an OK song and having the two Disney covers was an interesting choice to have included, but I do like Oware na Tabibito more than Call me Cruella.  Curious to see how this era will play out.

Let’s Talk About Pokemon Scarlet & Violet! DLC Updates August 28, 2023

pokemonscarvio

So we’re back with more information of the DLC coming up so let’s talk about it yah and catch up before the release of the first part!!!!

Dipplin

dipplin

First for the Teal Mask is this new evolution for Applin, named Dipplin (still a Grass/Dragon).  To me, the evolution changes aren’t as noticeable like the other two (Flapple and Appletun), but there’s something that is connecting to the Gigantamax form it has back in Sword & Shield which has me very curious.  Very cute though and fits the DLC’s festival theme!

Archaludon

archaludon

For the Indigo Disc, we got introduced to Duraludon’s evolution, Archaludon (remaining a Steel/Dragon), but this time it turns into a bridge instead of being based off of a skyscraper.  It’s a strange design, no doubt and while it looks a bit more GUNDAM-like, I think it still fits.  Why now is more of what I’m curious about.  Still impressed however and happy Duraludon got an evolution as it felt like it needed back in Sword/Shield.

Raging Bolt

ragingbolt

Kind of figured after Walking Wake and Iron Leaves that the rest of the trio of legendaries would get paradox forms as in the case of Raging Bolt.  Though what it also confirms is that it’s following a typing pattern to which this is Electric/Dragon which obviously means Entei’s paradox will end up bring Fire/Dragon and that’s pretty cool.  As for Raging Bolt, what a bizarre design choice to change-up Raikou, isn’t it?  Very curious to catch, not gonna lie!

Iron Crown

ironcrown

Likewise, Cobalion now has a Paradox form with Iron Crown being a Steel/Psychic which means that the eventual Terrakion Paradox will be Rock/Psychic which might interest me some.  To be fair though the future designs for the musketeers haven’t really impressed me too much…so I don’t think Terrakion’s will deliver but one could hope.  I still to love Iron Crown’s colors though at least!

Terapagos

babyterapagosterapagosterastal

So we finally get the official announcement to Terapagos and what many thought was its pre-evolution actually ended up being the main Pokemon itself.  We still don’t quite know its typing in this first form, but the form with the fur and the Pokemon types on its shell is its Terastal form to which marks the first unique form for this Terastilization process.  Though unrelated to Terapagos, but it seems Ogerpon will also have a unique Terastal form as well, so we’ll see how it all goes one The Teal Mask releases.

Poltchageist

poltchageist

Most recently, we had a little preview of another new Pokemon for The Teal Mask, and it turned out to be a convergent species of Sinistea called Poltchageist (the naming convention is odd since the name sounds really close to Polteageist).  This matcha tea-inspired Pokemon is a Grass/Ghost (something Pokemon have been loving to do in the last few Generations).

So there’s that with the first of the DLC coming out in a few weeks, I’m looking forward to expand the Scarlet/Violet story and just see what’s up and come pack to Paldea (and Kitakami where the frst DLC takes place).

NCT 2023 – Golden Age

Track Listing

  1. Baggy Jeans
  2. Call D
  3. PADO
  4. Interlude: Oasis
  5. The BAT
  6. Alley Oop
  7. That’s Not Fair
  8. Kangaroo
  9. Not Your Fault
  10. Golden Hour

1. Baggy Jeans

Interesting way to open the album, but here we are.  I found it pretty intriguing that the original NCT U line-up (Taeyong, Ten, Doyoung, Jaehyun, and Mark) are chosen for this song (it was one of the 2 main promotional tracks).  While the song is not smooth like the “The 7th Sense” was, this more felt like a NCT 127 track with the overall hip-hop feel.  Since that first release, all 5 members just have gotten better and I’m loving the growth heard in the song from Taeyong, Mark, and Jaehyun’s rapping to Ten and Doyoungs strong vocals heard throughout.  I will say them saying ~baggy~ ad nauseum was starting to grate on my nerves.  It’s an alright song, solid choice though to promote since like I said it’s the original NCT U lineup that kicked off this wild ride!

2. Call D

Next song in and we have another returning grouping, Taeyong and Ten this time and I very much loved “Baby Don’t Stop” so I was wondering what would come of it this time.  While the song isn’t as much of a bop, Call D is a bit more of a sensual track, a little more sexier?  Likewise, Taeyong is singing again which is nice to here, but Ten is shining in the song for sure.  I will say, I kind of like it but at the same time doesn’t really pop out at me in the discography either.

3. PADO

Going into the more interesting line-ups of the album, we start off with PADO which has (Taeyong, Jaehyun, Haechan, Mark, Johnny, Xiaojun, and Hendery).  The beat of the beginning feels interesting and has a bit of a punch.  There’s definitely a rappers/singers vibe with Taeyong, Johnny, Mark, and Hendery being the rappers throughout while Haechan, Xiaojun, and Jaehyun leading on vocals.  It’s a pretty straightforward kind of song and I enjoyed how everyone handled the song.  Though I do feel that like “Call D” it’s OK, but nothing that really pops out.

4. Interlude: Oasis

Even the interlude has specific members utilized like Yuta, Jaehyun, Winwin, Jaemin, and Chenle.  I kind of like the flowing arrangement of this one and it’s at least 2 minutes in length so it doesn’t feel unnecessary.  I do like the song as a whole luckily and hearing Jaehyun, Yuta, and Chenle singing together is just incredibly pleasant.  Jaemin and a lesser extent, Winwin were more of the rappers here and they just weren’t as prominent to the singers within the song, but overall the experience was really smooth and nice.

5. The BAT

One of the groupings I was very much looking forward to was this one between Taeil, Yuta, Johnny, Jungwoo, Jisung, Jeno, and Hendery with The BAT and honestly, this one definitely stands out from the rest of the album and in my opinion should’ve been a promotional track!  It’s such a darker song, but the whole bat motif is fitting to it all.  I was really impressed with Yuta and Jungwoo and more with Jeno as well doing them raps.  Even with the chorus being as odd as it is, I still kind of found myself enjoying this a lot more than the last couple of tracks.

6. Alley Oop

Since the title is kind of a basketball thing, I wasn’t surprised that Alley Oop was more of a hip-hop fronted kind of track, but like “The BAT”, had an interesting line-up of; Jeno, Yuta, Jisung, Yangyang, Winwin, Hendery, Jaemin, and Jisung (which is basically more of the rappers outside of Johnny, Taeyong, and Mark).  To me, the song doesn’t really move me in a strong way.  Most of the rappers do well in their solos (Winwin once again getting smaller lines, and Yuta is the only one kind of singing in the track).  Still it’s a solid showcase for most involved.

7. That’s Not Fair

Huh, I’m not sure why but this next track with most of the other rappers (Taeyong, Johnny, Mark, Ten and pulling in Yangyang and Jeno again) is giving me straight up Halloween vibes.  Should’ve been after “The BAT” to be honest lol.  Anyways, That’s Not Fair has once again a pretty straightforward arrangement and beat which fits to all 6 that are rapping.  I did notice the Bach sampling in the song (which we will be returning to this option later on in the album), but in That’s Not Fair, the sampling is kind of a bit hokey IMO.  This would be where the choruses happen and since it’s a duet situation during that…I don’t know it felt a bit cringe to hear?  A little too kiddy sing-songy?  I don’t know how to feel about this one….at least the verses were pretty cool!

8. Kangaroo

Changing the mood a bit, Kangaroo lightens things up with a more bouncier and happier vibe with Renjun, Chenle, Yangyang, Jisung, Taeil, and Kun in this go-round.  It’s a pretty decent and non-harmful song with a lot of vocals coming out of Taeil, Chenle, and Yangyang and it just makes me happy to see these 6 together as their vocals are just chirpy (well Jisung has such a deeper tone that it’s kind of hard to not notice in Kangaroo).  It’s definitely the album’s “Touch” so I appreciate something on the happier side of things.

9. Not Your Fault

As we near the end of the album, the last for the smaller groupings, Not Your Fault features most of the powerful vocalists here; Kun, Renjun, Taeil, Doyoung, Jungwoo, Xiaojun, and Ten.  It is also the album’s kind of lone ballad (it’s more of a mid-tempo ballad though).  As expected, I definitely enjoyed hearing all the voices in the song and they were all able to shine.  Like most of the other songs, it’s pretty average and doesn’t really leave too much of an impression on me.

10. Golden Age

As the final track of the album, this was the all-member track and was the first to get a PV released and this song was just kind of mediocre to me at best.  As I’ve hinted in “That’s Not Fair”, this song too samples a classical piece, this time from Beethoven and just comes off as incredibly chintzy and a bit weak for the group.  What I do enjoy is that every member gets a solo line so no one is actually left out finally.  Still, some of the song is just bleh and the them choruses don’t really work for me and the rapping in some areas is also quite jarring at times.  Yeah this was a weak way to close the album honestly.

Song of Avoidance

  • Golden Age

Wow, this may be the worst offering NCT has given us yet with their 4th all-together album.  Something about Golden Age feels lacking and it could be the lack of a NCT 127, NCT DREAM, and WayV song to really feel like a compilation album it feels like.  Plus I felt like “EMPATHY”, “RESONANCE” and “UNIVERSE” felt more involved in the creation and the songs were a LOT more memorable than the ones seen here.  Though this release seemed a bit rushed too, I mean beyond Lucas leaving, Shotaro and Sungchan leaving to become members of RIIZE and the current survivor show LASTART bringing in the last NCT unit, I think this album could’ve been pushed back a bit…but it’s also around the time where these members will need to do their military stuff, so I don’t know, but this album wasn’t the strongest.

So I thought I’d update everyone on the status of artists I review here! BIG POST AHEAD August 8, 2023

  6. My Sanctuary
  7. Mirai yo, Watashi wo Oikakero
  8. Kimi no Tonari, Taiyou no Shita de
  9. Hiraeth
  10. Blue Hour

1. FELT SENSE

As the opening to the album, FELT SENSE being the title track really kind of caught the cover art in the song being a bit blue and synthy.  I wasn’t expecting a more modern and kind of danceable sound since they don’t fully embrace that side often.  YUKA’s vocals are quite pinprick-y especially with the verses where she’s doing a lot abrupt and staccato-like sounds and getting these SUPER high squeaks as well which is kind of bothersome.  I was hoping the song would’ve built more to a quicker tempo (or a heavier beat), but this song lays in this kind of middle-ground style.  I do like how different this is though, very unique for a moumoon album to open with.

2. The Best Day

So what I remembered was that moumoon went on hiatus because of Masaki (and left avex) then slowly came back to music with digital singles, this was the last of 3 released (this one came out in May of this year), The Best Day switches things up, leaving the electronics for the more natural and acoustic side to their music…something that reminds me of stuff from both “Flyways” and “NEWMOON”.  To me, this kind of laidback, summery sound doesn’t stay with me well and this one just kind of feels a bit slow for my tastes.

3. Beautiful Sky

I don’t know what it is with moumoon, but they do these kind of cutesy songs and they’re like some of the most imaginative songs and very pretty and just aims for that childhood wonder so perfectly.  Stuff like “moonlight” and “Hitotsu Dake,” also fit this category and I just gotta praise both members for making it work as well as it does.  YUKA’s vocals sound a bit more stronger than before and her English has gotten better too!  Add on the powerful blast for the chorus and I’m kind of just in awe of this one!  What a great track and early on, I hope the rest can really keep up after this!

4. Watashi ni Kaerou

While “Beautfiul Sky” is the grand ballad, Watashi ni Kaerou slow things even further for a light piano ballad here.  There’s just something interesting comparing these two songs side by side since this doesn’t have the extravagant picture that the previous track does.  Though there’s elements that make it pop, like the harp being included.  YUKA of course sounds great and still feels like she’s growing in power.  In the chorus, more instruments do get introduced (like the drums), but it seems to really focus on the light side.  It’s decent, but “Beautiful Sky” still outdoes it.

5. Polaris

Seems like the album is on a ballad-centric stretch here.  Polaris though kind of has a pop/rock ballad feel with the arrangement having a bit more to it than the previous two tracks.  Even Masaki provides backing vocals to YUKA which is great since we haven’t heard him in a song for a while.  Sadly, the song just kind of zones me out a bit which is odd considering the amount of band instruments this song has up in the front.  Oh well, not all can be winners, yeah?

6. My Sanctuary

What a kind of sad and downtrodden song we have for My Sanctuary.  I wasn’t expecting the slow-moving background arrangement and then the smooth and whispy vocals out of YUKA and some backups (and maybe Masaki at points).  This kind of crawling mood is kind of interesting, but at the same time forcing the song to drag and move as slow as possible, especially in the bridge where you think it could do something but it doesn’t quite make it.  This is probably my least favorite track off the album, just makes me feel too sleepy…

7. Mirai yo, Watashi wo Oikakero

So the next two tracks were the other digital singles released, this one back in 2022.  After the sluggish feeling of “My Sanctuary”, Mirai yo, Watashi wo Oikakero picks up the album with a mid-tempo pop/rock that that once again reminds me of stuff from “Flyways” more, but I think YUKA’s vocals feel a bit more bright alongside with Masaki’s guitarwork.  It’s a fine track, maybe not one of their bests, but I definitely could see value in it.

8. Kimi no Tonari, Taiyou no Shita de

Then we have the 2021 digital single and we’re back to a slower setting and I wasn’t sure what I was going to do because their slower songs have mostly flown by me.  Since this was their first song outside of avex, I had wondered if anything would really change, but this kind of assured me that they’re still able to do good ballads.  I think just like the previous track, it’s decent, but not quite in the upper realm of their best songs.

9. Hiraeth

Kind of starting to feel the burn with all these slower songs.  Hiraeth is kind of something different with like a heartbeat in the background and the longing guitar in the background and YUKA’s airy vocals just gives this warmth in the song.  Somehow I feel like “I’m Scarlet” fits musically here, but not quite as pushy.  Hiraeth is just kind of that warm, homely vibe that while nice feels like moumoon all at once.  It’s still not as great as “Beautiful Sky” but I like this one too.

10. Blue Hour

As the final track, Blue Hour closes things out with a chill and laidback track.  Now this sounds like something BONNIE PINK would definitely release somehow.  Also it’s nice to hear synths return to the forefront and the kind of upbeat vibe here just kind of works for me.  Like “Hiraeth”, it’s also kind of warm and just happy for them.  It’s a good closing song for sure!

Song of Avoidance

  • My Sanctuary

Also a release that felt almost kind of out of nowhere for me, FELT SENSE marks moumoon’s first album since departing from axex trax and yeah, it’s a moumoon album.  Maybe not quite as strong as their previous album, “NEWMOON”, but still better than “Flyways” for me.  I still kind of wish they went back towards the fun and poppy songs they used to do, versus this more mellowed out sound.  Stuff like Beautiful Sky, Blue Hour, and FELT SENSE really kind of tries to cover that side, but this other stuff just kind of feels plain to me?  Still, it’s an OK album, just needs a little more oomph…

1. Overture

What is with this intro piece?  It sounds like something from a video game but given a dubstep and gritty groove which is entirely new to me when it comes to Saori’s music, since it is an opening instrumental, it’s very new to me and you can hear little bits and pieces of Saori’s voice throughout the track.  A short 1:15 track and leaves me wondering what am I getting myself into.

2. Kibou -Album Mix-

While I didn’t review the two digital singles released prior to the album (hell, I didn’t even know she changed names), Kibou was the first under the new name and comparing the original digital single to the album mix, I can’t really tell much of a difference?  After the chaotic intro piece, Kibou sounds like what I expected from Saori with the funky synth sounds and her processed vocals, it’s like kind of going back to when she was Saori@destiny here and I’m quite loving that about this song!  I kind of just love the beat and how danceable it is, though the dubstep bridge kind of throws me off somewhat.  I think actually the album mix kind of fixes the music a bit so it sounds more clear and less fuzzy.  Good start here!

3. Rinne

So we enter the next track (aptly the title track) and I was kind of surprised at how cool this one sounded compared to “Kibou”.  I was kind of thrown off by the spoken dialogue that’s the verses because it’s VERY quickly-paced and then Saori comes in with vocals that are kind of more used at backing to the arrangement and hooks.  It’s an oddball song and the mood of it reminds me of Aural Vampire’s music which is kind of cool, I suppose?  Interesting since it’s the 2nd full track.

4. Can’t Stop

Which is funny because here we are with an interlude with Can’t Stop.  The mood of the song is a bit more funky, a little more reminiscent of her older works.  It’s kind of urban?  I don’t know the actual mood of the song really but there’s some spoken words throughout, but it’s kind of repetitive at the same time?  For being a 2 minute interlude, it kind of just goes nowhere for me and I’m quickly moving onto the next track.

5. What the hell!?

I’m kind of loving this title since it’s just sooooo…unlike Saori to pull off, but What the hell!? is definitely a surprise to me in my headphones as it’s kind of more of the disco-funk that I kind of love and it’s just so different to me, it’s like how I felt when I first heard “GAMBA JAPAN” for the first time.  I find it funny when Saori says the title too, but it’s the arrangement that has grabbed my attention (guitar licks, string strikes, and the horns).  Very cool indeed!

6. Zetsumetsu

I don’t know how she got into this but I am LOOOOVING the bass in this album so far and Zetsumetsu seems to me a bit more of what she released as Saoriiiii with the piano and buzzing synths playing a lighter but including that thumping beat to keep things danceable and fun.  The keyboard is what’s catching me and so are the synth melodies that play in and around Saori during the song…quick, buzzing, and just upbeat and I like that about this one!

7. Bad End

As the 2nd digital single to release (and oddly enough get an album mix), Bad End seems to be the cutesy song off the album.  The kind of synth/piano found here has a more bright vibe than in “Zetsumetsu” and the tone overall is playful and cute.  Saori’s light vocals fit nicely as well and I feel like she’s doing a bit more in the song vocally versus most of the other tracks off the album.  It’s OK, but I don’t think it fits on the album very much?

8. Detarame

Oh the intro of our next song, Detarame sounds so cool and full and then once the intro is over, the song kind of goes into this cool house-ish vibe that I’m kind of loving here.  It’s got a cool sound and Saori’s whispy vocals adds this kind of VOCALOID-like sound that I approve all-around.  Maybe it’s just personal taste, but I wish this song hit harder!  Like the beat should’ve been pulsating!  Still, this was a pretty cool song and probably the best of the tracks of the album!

9. Coda

Another interlude?  Kind of weird since it’s 45 seconds of some kind of idea that’s got a repeating synthline that builds more and more with instrumentation.  Kind of ends abruptly but I think it’s supposed to immediately cut into the next track.

10. Handler

Which is our final track to the album.  Handler to me is the closest she’s sounded to her D-TOPIA days with a kind of simple dance beat and synthwork alongside her dreamy vocals that’s a bit more airy and calm until the chorus where her voice comes out more.  To me it’s like a slightly lighter “Sayonara Revival” almost.  It’s a solid way to close the album I think.

If you hadn’t already guessed by the review, Saori Rinne was previously known as Saoriiiii (or Saori@destiny which is what she’s best known as).  Yeah, new label, new name I guess?  Definitely didn’t expect an album from her considering her last release was her 2018 mini-album, “Tokyo Kunyan”.  With the new change, it seems Saori is trying to go back to a more familiar sound to her Saori@destiny days where her music could be more technopop and a little experimental at the same time.  Rinne is an OK album, I would’ve left off the interludes for more vocal tracks because they are pretty decent (except Bad End, which felt too cutesy for the release).  I’m hoping this is the beginning of more activity because she’s been gone for a while and this was nice to see!

1. Resolve

Hmmm, a GUNDAM theme that starts with an “r”?  Ala “Realize”, “Result”, and “Reason”?  Yeah, it seems Nami returned to the series to drop another banger for the series!  Resolve definitely has elements of those past themes and I have to say, it’s quite something to see a full circle happen and Nami sounds pretty good here!  That being said, it doesn’t quite have that splash of leading song vibes that the aforementioned songs have so it feels more like an album song than anything else to be honest, but it’s a good track regardless.

2. BEYOND THE TIME ~Möbius no Sora wo Koete~

Though the digital release actually came with another track, but this time it’s a cover track from the 1988 TM NETWORK song of the same name.  Considering this was a big hit back then, I was happy to see Nami covering this and it was pretty much everything I had expected and hoped for a cover as Nami sounds really good (kind of like she did in her SONY days).  Really good here!!

Finally after so many years, Nami returns for a GUNDAM theme and it’s like she’s never really left to be honest.  Resolve is a decent track, not quite as powerful as her big hits back in the day, but I REALLY enjoyed her TM NETWORK cover for sure, just very cool and after “NT GUNDAM COVER” album, I’m always down to hear more covers from Nami.  I really hope she’s aiming for an album soon considering how many singles she’s got since “STEP”.

1. BREAK THE CHAIN

It seems Nami has been really wanting to do more anison songs and with BREAK THE CHAIN, it’s like she’s more closer than she’s been before to being close to where she was in her prime!  This song definitely screams anison and Nami just suits these kind of songs, but it is noticeable that her voice is a bit more deeper and a little more honky at times.  I think what gets me is that like her older works this one comes with a pretty awesome guitar solo in the bridge which definitely reminds me of “Believe” and Realize” and the like.  Not bad, not bad!

I was surprised that Nami would release this digital single shortly after “Connect the Truth” released, but this, like the single. was more and more of Nami returning to her roots and for that BREAK THE CHAIN was a pretty good song overall, wished it did get the physical release treatment it should’ve gotten, but it is what it is.

1. Mephisto Sheriff ~Mephisto Waltz Yori~

Immediately opening up with some dance beats and gritty synths, I wasn’t surprised that Nami would return to sing something like this.  It sounds darker and a little more electronic than I expected and I really enjoy Nami’s vocals in this arrangement.  What I will say is that I’m not into the lack of a chorus and if there is one, I really hope it’s not the repetitive ~mephisto, mephisto, mephisto~.  The verses were more impactful on top of the bridge as well.  Beyond that, I don’t think I like the so-called hook of the song unfortunately.

Nami did release a digital single in between “Everlasting Love” and “Connect the Truth” so it was nice that she did something in between the hiatus she took, but this song was kind of lukewarm to me.  While I did enjoy the darker tinge and the verse/bridge…having the “chorus” be as repetitive as it was, just didn’t seem to work for me. Oh well…
