Track Listing

  2. familia
  3. Reclimb off vocal ver.
  4. familia off vocal ver.

1. Reclimb

It’s been quite a while hasn’t it ROOKiEZ?  As their return, Reclimb starts off fading into a pretty loud anison J-Rock track and while it’s a sound that I’m not as used to unlike their heavier songs.  It actually reminds me of FLOW’s work which might be good or bad depending on your outlook on that comparison.  The song is nice regardless, and while I would’ve preferred ROOKiEZ with a heavier song, this is a nice return.

2. familia

Didn’t seem to catch well with the B-side because it’s a bit slower than “Reclimb” but I will say that I pretty much enjoy listening to SHiNNOSUKE’s voice more in this song more.  I’m not sure what else to say besides it’s a pretty solid B-side for the band, but they’ve done better!

After taking a nice year long break after their debut, “From Dusk Till Dawn”, ROOKiEZ return with Reclimb and overall it’s not bad, but it’s not their best either so it’s an overall average single.  I will say the FLOW comparisons are strong here…but still…they could really do better overall xD

ROOKiEZ is PUNK’D – From Dusk Till Dawn August 17, 2012

  3. self conversation
  4. Feeling This
  5. Reason
  6. California Ninja
  7. ZERO SATISFACTION
  8. Dance on the floor
  9. Song for… -overcame version-
  10. Complication -still struggle version-
  11. tobira
  12. Screaming against the xxxxxxx
  13. Over the RAINBOW

1. CRISIS

I guess the band wanted to kick things off with a bang with CRISIS.  I love the power of the song for sure.  SHiNNOSUKE is slowly starting to sound like the lead from SPYAIR but that’s alright because this song is just all-around badass and the guitar riffs are amazingly done here!  It’s a definitely awesome tune and funny enough it could’ve worked as a finisher too…CRISIS is SHWEEEET!

2. IN MY WORLD

4th A-side, IN MY WORLD comes up next and I still think this is where my enjoyment of the band started.  Not as epic and hard-hitting as “CRISIS”, IN MY WORLD has more of a controlled style for it.  I feel as if this song is probably my second favorite of the A-sides released and that’s a good step up!

3. self conversation

Back to a couple of new tracks, self conversation kind of feels like it fuses the previous two tracks into this one and I kind of like what came out of that.  SHiNNOSUKE is singing a bit more deeper than the previous tracks which is a nice change.  The chorus though kind of feels a bit strange but it’s a broad sound that I get from it and it brought some originality to the band here.

4. Feeling This

Now this is a feisty track we got here.  Feeling This has a rather speedy intro (and loud too) but cools down during the verses.  I think this song is good right up to the chorus where I think it sounds like the previous tracks in a not good way.  Add in some SHiNNOSUKE rapping and we got this song and overall it was pretty nice.

5. Reason

Finally things cool down when we get into Reason and I’m so happy for that!  I like the slower side of the band (even though I didn’t like “Song for…”).  This kind of lets the band show of more of their colors which is pretty awesome.  At some point you can hear SHiNNOSUKE break in the chorus but it’s nothing too overly painful.

6. California Ninja

Out of this album, I felt like California Ninja was the unique song but it’s not really because it’s still in the realm of the group’s sound.  I did feel as if SHiNNOSUKE’s lazy vocals in this song fit but he probably should’ve exploded in the chorus to give it more punch IMO.  It’s not my favorite song on the album to be honest.

7. ZERO SATISFACTION

The last single to be released for their album, ZERO SATISFACTION’s intro reminded me of “IN MY WORLD” but with a little more going on!  I have to say that this was my favorite A-side of the 5 because it was different but not, powerful though!  I’m just loving every second of the song and just blew the last couple of songs away!

8. Dance on the floor

It seems we get into another hard-hitting song, Dance on the floor has more of a light-hearted rock style which is AOK with me but it sounds like a SPYAIR song to me.  Though the song is quite spastic and one of the moments I remember most is ~Let’s get fuckin’ high!~.  That made me laugh quite a bit.  Of course this is another song that includes a rap from SHiNNOSUKE so that’s pretty cool.  It’s a pretty cool song, but I feel the drumming was more than too much for the song to be honest.

9, Song for… -overcame version-

As the 3rd single (and the first I reviewed from the band) I was just not impressed with Song for… being their slow A-side.  The new version released on the album cleans things up a bit.  Replacing the original intro’s electric intro with an acoustic guitar.  Add in some background changes and SHiNNOSUKE resinging the song and you basically have the new Song for…  I guess the changes that were made did make the song sound better overall, but it’s still not a favorite of mine.

10. Complication -still struggle version-

So I guess we get to see Complication for the third time (the track was also on their Durarara!! mini-album.  (BTW, notice the lack of “eggamate of the year”).  As this is the group’s debut song, I wasn’t surprised that this too had gotten a new version on the album.  Like what they did with “Song for…”, Complication basically got a new makeover, things becoming a little more edgier and rocking than the original which is nice because while I did enjoy Complication originally, it did feel as if it was missing something and this fixed it up!  Still not as good as “IN MY WORLD” or “ZERO SATISFACTION” but this follows it up quite nicely.

11. tobira

The final stretch of songs are brand new starting with tobira and I find the same excitement here as I did with “CRISIS” since it’s hard and yet sounds like the group was hitting the right places here.  It’s like “ZERO SATISFACTION” actually and that also seemed to impress me a lot.  Another winner here! lol

12. Screaming against the xxxxxxx

The longest track on the album comes next and Screaming against the xxxxxxx is a little strange actually since it’s not a slow track but it’s not a hard song either so it kind of falls into the middle.  I like the song but it was weird that the bridge into the chorus was a rapping section from SHiNNOSUKE…it’s just a bit strange to me.  It’s not bad though and is one of the better songs just not one of the best.

13. Over the RAINBOW

I was wondering how the final song would sound and it’s actually not a cheesy closing song!  Over the RAINBOW is pretty much rockin’ throughout which brings the album full circle into this pretty good package.  I don’t find it too memorable for some strange reason but with all the songs that came before it…I’m kind of burned out lol.

I wasn’t expecting it, but I thought ROOKiEZ’ debut album actually is a pretty solid and good release.  From Dusk Till Dawn is all rock the entire time with a couple of slower rock tracks but still overall a very straightforward release.  A couple songs are meh and the lack of “eggmate of the year” surprises me (though that song probably would have not fit the style).  Still this isn’t bad at all!

ROOKiEZ is PUNK’D – eggmate of the year July 30, 2012

Track Listing

  1. eggmate of the year
  2. stop the time
  3. eggmate of the year (instrumental)

1. eggmate of the year

I like that the band decided to have a little more fun for the second A-side in eggmate of the year.  It carries the summer feel quite nicely and has the same amount of rock added in!  Of course the energy brought from SHiNNOSUKE’s rapping and singing is quite strong and makes you wanna hit the beach and rock out.  Definitely an improvement over “Complication”.

*Will review the B-side if the single ever leaks!*  I’m actually surprised that their debut album, “From Dusk Till Dawn” will not feature the A-side in its tracklist.  It makes me wonder why eggmate of the year is omitted from the album because it’s actually quite good of a summer tune!  Then again it is the only single that hasn’t leaked yet either which is a bit meh…

ROOKiEZ is PUNK’D – Complication

Track Listing

  1. Complication
  2. Fortune
  3. BUMP ON da STYLE
  4. Complication -TV Size Opening Ver.-
  5. Complication -TV Size Long Ver.-
  6. Complication (instrumental)
  7. Fortune (instrumental)

1. Complication

Getting into the trio’s debut single, I was wondering why Complication is considered their most well-known track but I honestly can’t see why it’s good.  I mean it has a mix of anison and the band’s sound all rolled into one package.  I don’t think it’s as good as their later singles are which is a bit surprising but I think it’s a suitable debut A-side and I kind of like SHiNNOSUKE’s vocals but not so much of the rapping…that kind of threw me off.  Still not bad…

2. Fortune

At least the band kicks it up a notch for the first B-side, Fortune.  It’s still quite anime-esque and reminds of a NARUTO theme for some reason >.>.  I like the energy and the band has a little more fire going on in this song which is pretty cool.  I’m a little surprised that there’s a lot more of this rapping going on which kind of makes it sound like a FLOW song (something I’ve said before about the group).  I liked the song a lot more than “Complicaton”.

3. BUMP UP da STYLE

The last track on the single, I thought they made a funny with that piano intro.  It seems the song is suited more for their hip-hop side but the song switches genres by getting a bit more rockin and it goes back and forth lol.  There’s still a lot of rapping to be found which is no surprise but it’s kind of a fun tune.

ROOKiEZ and their debut is different from what I know of the band today.  Complication is a pretty good single but I do think their later singles are much better!  I like SHiNNOSUKE’s vocals when he isn’t rapping but the times he rapped were actually solid.

ROOKiEZ is PUNK’D – ZERO SATISFACTION March 24, 2012

Track Listing

  1. ZERO SATISFACTION
  2. Buchiage Mikusuchaa
  3. ZERO SATISFACTION -instrumental-
  4. Buchiage Mikusuchaa -instrumental-

1. ZERO SATISFACTION

Damn, ZERO SATISFACTION is pretty badass for the group in my honest opinion.  The furious guitars riffs and the almost DOES/ONE OK ROCK feel of the song really kicked things up a notch for the band.  While the chorus is a little less edge and more anime-ish, it’s not very bad and the energy coming from SHiNNOSUKE is quite powerful.  While I think “IN MY WORLD” slightly edges this song out, this is still pretty good!

2. Buchiage Mikusuchaa

As the single’s B-side, Buchiage Mikusuchaa does sound a bit lighter and a bit more like a SPYAIR/FLOW song but more like the latter because of the rapping that’s found throughout…actually the rapping is more like UVERworld almost.  Jeeze…way too many bands mentioned it seems hahaha.  Still, the song does feel like a lot of those bands mentioned so it’s not terrible but nothing that I can say original here.

For some reason, I did miss this release *sigh*.  I will say that ZERO SATISFACTION is good but definitely isn’t as amazing as “IN MY WORLD” was.  The edgy and furious A-side really led me off on a good note and they sound stronger than ever.  Buchiage Mikusuchaa though was different and like their older stuff but almost feels like an UVERworld track almost…

ROOKiEZ is PUNK’D – IN MY WORLD August 23, 2011

Track Listing

  1. IN MY WORLD
  2. D×H×C×T
  3. IN MY WORLD -Ao no Honoo EDITION-
  4. IN MY WORLD -TV SIZE OPENING VER.-
  5. IN MY WORLD -INSTRUMENTAL-
  6. D×H×C×T -INSTRUMENTAL-

1. IN MY WORLD

I still think it was an odd choice to begin reviewing ROOKiEZ with “Song for…” so it’s nice that IN MY WORLD brings things back alive with IN MY WORLD which has such a great progressive rock feel and I’m loving SHiNNOSUKE’s vocals a LOT more than I did back than in their last single.  Yeah, this is sounding very good right now!

2. D×H×C×T

If I thought “IN MY WORLD” was rocking I wasn’t expecting the B-side to take a step higher and be even more fun to listen to.  To me this track totally has FLOW vibes spinning throughout including the rapping and the loud chorus.  It’s funny to have that parallel going on since it made me love the song a lot more and seriously SHiNNOSUKE sounds like KOHSHI lol.  Good B-side for sure!  Then again the chorus with the auto-tune is a bit…odd.

3. IN MY WORLD -Ao no Honoo EDITION-

Well there is a short opening version of the tune after this track, but this is just basically IN MY WORLD with a bit of talking before it fully begins so it only really adds 20 seconds to the song.  Otherwise it’s still the same song but with one of the characters of the anime having spoken pieces throughout the song…kind of lame but ehhh an excuse to hear IN MY WORLD again.

So I’m now wondering if the band will release an album next seeing as this is their 4th single released in their debut era.  IN MY WORLD and D×H×C×T are both very strong tracks to hear since it shows the band’s colors and strong rock nature.  Yeah the third track is a bit unusual to add but whatever…Still a much better single overall than their last one.

ROOKiEZ is PUNK’D – Song for… March 5, 2011

Filed under: ROOKiEZ is PUNK'D — solarblade @ 11:32 am

Track Listing

  1. Song for…
  2. Oh Yeah!!!
  3. Song for… BLEACH TV SIZE EDIT
  4. Song for… instrumental

1. Song for…

Maybe it’s just me, but coming into this band’s third single is probably a big oopsies since the song is definitely not like their previous A-sides at all.  Add in that the song is basically a rockin’ ballad doesn’t really help much does it?  I really like SHiNNOSUKE’s vocals quite a bit in this song, but his vocals don’t really stand out much for me for some reason.  However, also adding a little pain…the song doesn’t really bring anything to the BLEACH series since it reminds me of a few other rock ballads from other groups…I will say…there was one part that I thought they cussed in…but it could just be me.  It’s alright, but not them IMO.

2. Oh Yeah!!!

I will take the B-side though since it’s more along the lines of what they started out as and the fact it’s energetic and has oomph put a smile on my face.  Though I get another sense of dejavu with this song because it reminds me a whole lot of FLOW’s “GO!!!” in the execution and sound.  I’m sure it’s not intentional, but it’s hard not to make that comparison IMO.

As it is the third single from ROOKiEZ is PUNK’D, Song for… might’ve been a bad start for me to review them since both songs don’t really bring much to the game that’s already been done…but I guess I can see why there’s FLOW comparisons…it’s hard since the trio just has that sound going…of course FLOW in recent times has been changing their game up…but still.  Maybe “Complication” and “eggmate of the year” will make me a better fan.
