Guardians 4 – Going On! January 21, 2010

Track Listing

  2. Arigatou ~Ookiku Kansha!~
  3. Going On! (Instrumental)
  4. Arigatou ~Ookiku Kansha!~ (Instrumnetal)

1. Going On!

G4 has been getting better with each release and with Going On! is probably one of my favorites from the group so far.  It’s a mix of the cuteness that we’ve seen with most H!P groups, but it also reminds me of like Perfume in their early days, but this is still pretty awesome.  Every release I notice I’m hearing less of Yurina’s vocals and replaced by Aika.  I think they might’ve just got this right.

2. Arigatou ~Ookiku Kansha!~

As usual, the B-side is a Shugo Chara Egg! track, but there’s something different going on here.  This is a whole new SCE! we’re dealing with.  Everyone previous was replaced with Mizuki, Nanami, and Irohi and I do not recognize anyone in the song, so that means I basically have to reorganize myself.  Akari Saho is the only original member left and she didn’t stand out to me in either groups.  The song is alright, but I think everyone has kind of given up on the group since the member switcheroo and the selection of music is kind of obvious and not surprising of a choice.

I really want a G4 album right about now, it seems they’ve been getting better with each release like I said before.  Going On! is really cool and peppy and perfect for the girls, however the kinks of SCE!’s new formation has something going on that isn’t right, but it could just be because it’s 3 new girls and Akari so hmmmm.

Guardians 4 / Shugo Chara Egg! – PARTY TIME/Watashi no Tamago November 19, 2009

Track Listing

  1. PARTY TIME

  3. PARTY TIME (Instrumental)
  4. Watashi no Tamago (Instrumental)

1. PARTY TIME

Could it be that I’m in love with a Guardians 4 track?  For the first time, the track doesn’t feel tacky or messed up because of the uneven vocals.  PARTY TIME also features a great amount of pep and synths to back it up.  The thing that gets me is that Yurina isn’t as awkward as she was in previous efforts which is a plus and she learned that having the deeper vocals doesn’t make you sound great when everyone else is higher.  YAY! H!P dance song!

2. Watashi no Tamago

However, the cheese factor starts rising when we get into Shugo Chara Egg!’s track.  Since I really don’t know who’s who in the group, I can’t really judge between the three members here.  What I can say is that, this would be the first H!P winter track released this year.  It’s one of those typical happy and jolly tracks that just will make anyone smile.  To me it’s just another winter track and it doesn’t really sway me into liking or hating it…it’s just there.

While it’s both Guardians 4 and Shugo Chara Egg!’s third single, I have to say my pick is on Guardians.  PARTY TIME was the excitement I needed after that last H!P release “Kimagure Princess”.  So much fun can be had here and the 4 ladies sound actually together this time.  Shugo could’ve had a better track because Watashi no Tamago just seems typical for me.  Hmmmm is it album time yet?

Guardians 4 – School Days September 2, 2009

Track Listing

  1. School Days
  2. School Days (Shugo Chara Egg! Version)
  3. Itsuka Doko ka de.
  4. School Days (Instrumental)
  5. Itsuka Doko ka de. (Instrumental)

1. School Days

Oh wow.  I have to say, School Days is obviously catered to the more younger crowd since this has such a cutesy vibe.  It’s even cuter than MilkyWay’s “Tan Tan Taan!” and that’s was sickingly cute, so this is the sugar-based frosting on top of all that.  I do think it’s rather catchy despite that and the girls sound relatively good…even though Yurina is just a big WTH since she has deeper vocals than the other 3.

2. School Days (Shugo Chara Egg! Version)

Just like Guardians 4’s debut single, it features SCE!’s version of the A-side which overall sounds the same even though they are different girls singing along.  It does lack the mature sounding Yurina, but this would be more what the song should sound without the odd couplings.

3. Itsuka Doko ka de.

Why has Tsunku been in this mode where the B-side is way better than the A-side?  It’s not as joyous and happy-go-lucky like “School Days”, but this is quite nice as well showing the girls singing along together.  There’s not much else to really say about this song…but maybe Tsunku should lead them in a different direction…maybe like Buono!?

Guardians 4′ s second single continues to show the uncomfy setting for all four ladies because of all the girls, Yurina just doesn’t seem to fit in the group as she has the deepest vocals.  School Days is just as cute as their debut if not more rambunctious and affectious too.  Itsuka Doko ka de. is more or less B-side material and I’ll leave it at that.

Guardians 4 – Omakase♪Guardian May 28, 2009

Track Listing

  1. Omakase♪Guardian
  2. Omakase♪Guardian (Shugo Chara Egg! Version)
  3. Summer Has Come!
  4. Omakase♪Guardian (Instrumental)
  5. Summer Has Come! (Instrumental)

1. Omakase♪Guardian

I wasn’t really sure what I was getting into, but this is definitly girly, but not as much as “Tan Tan Taan!” Unlike that song, this song actually has guitar and sounds a bit like some rejected Buono! song.  Sadly, I don’t know enough of the members to really make an opinion since I’m not either a fan of Berryz or C-ute.  Aika is in it which is like the only person I recognize.  It’s pretty catchy, I’ll give it that and the vocals arent horrific unlike MilkyWay’s.

2. Omakase♪Guardian (Shugo Chara Egg! Version)

I guess it isn’t surprising to hear a version from the young’ns.  Shugo Chara Egg!’s version of the song is oddly enough sounding the same thing as the Guardians version, maybe the vocals are a bit higher and stuffy, but it’s basically not enough to make a bigger difference across the board.

3. Summer Has Come!

The B-side of the single is actually a lot better than the A-side.  It kind of has this Buono! feel to it which I adore it and all of the girls get some solo parts which I liked as well, it’ll help me with figuring out who’s who.  When I’m listening one of the girls sound older than the rest…(guessing that’s Aika).  The musical interlude was pretty damn cool though.  I think this is a great B-side.

So H!P’s new group debuts pretty strongly IMO.  The A-side was peppy and just plain silly especially with the fact that the video was silly as well.  I guess Shugo Chara Egg! should also be praised on their take of the song which was not a lot of difference.  The B-side though was the best song off the single and man, I hope they go far because I’m actually falling for the group.
