Track Listing

  1. Koi no America
  2. Koi no Kinako Watashi ni Kudasai

1. Koi no America

Seems like we got another fun track with MAXIMUM THE HORMONE’s next A-side!  It really seems like MTH is just letting the fun come to them and their songs are becoming more sillier as time goes on with this one kind of being a love song to America!  Of course with a song like this the band goes everywhere genre-wise from heavy metal to punk and to even techno for a little bit.  Seeing more of Nao and Ue-chan is great and they sounded pretty good on top of Daisuke-han and Ryo-kun’s growls and vocals, it just came together pretty well even if some of the sections are a little all over the map?  I still quite enjoyed it!

2. Koi no Kinako Watashi ni Kudasai

So the B-side of the single is actually not a new song, but a new recording of the song from their 2005 album, “Rokkinpo Goroshi”.  I’ve forgotten what this one sounded like, but hearing this, I’m liking hearing Nao leading the track with a more quiet arrangement compared to “Koi no America”, at least until it gets halfway and the song amps up pretty quickly with Ryo-kun singing.  It is kind of meh that it’s only 2 minutes in length, but I suppose it’s a nice self-cover.

Has been a while since we’ve seen MAXIMUM THE HORMONE release something (at least physically).  About ○○○○○○, it’s kind of a shorter single for them and I’m kind of surprised they didn’t add on some of their digital releases they’ve done in the past few years now.  Koi no America is fine, not as good as their last A-side for sure and redoing Koi no Kinako Watashi ni Kudasai is interesting, I kind of wanted more out of this single.  I’m hoping an album is coming soon, to be honest.

MAXIMUM THE HORMONE – Korekara no Menkata Cottelee no Hanashi wo Shiyou January 21, 2019

korekara no menkata cottelee no hanashi wo shiyou

Track Listing

  1. maximum the hormone II ~ Korekara no Menkata Cottelee no Hanashi wo Shiyou
  2. G’old~en~Guy
  3. Haiyani Spain (we’re the Ore)
  4. Haikei VAP Domo
  5. G’old~en~Guy (Geijou-ban Anime Yokoku-hen Ver.)

1. maximum the hormone II ~ Korekara no Menkata Cottelee no Hanashi wo Shiyou

I wasn’t expecting the band to come back to make a sequel to “maximum the hormone” with the second.  Although, it does seem like the song is a response to the fans that miss Ryo-kun being the big guy (apparently it got to the point where if he didn’t lose weight, there’d be complications).  It’s pretty cool that it’s just rockin’ and in your face as usual, but what I wasn’t expecting a dance-pop section with Nao (who sounds so nice fits the disco/funk sound in that break from the metal).  It’s a wild song that goes back and forth, but considering this is their first single in like 8 years, they sure definitely have not lost their spark and I’m loving this track!

2. G’old~en~Guy

This could’ve been the bigger song because of its Anime tie-in, but G’old~en~Guy is interesting to me.  It opens as a banger with a lot of Daisuke-han and Ryo-kun.  Though it goes deeper and the tune lightens out with synths and Nao actually singing in a higher register than I normally hear.  There’s even a weird section of rockabilly too!  Not quite sure if I like Nao’s poppy part here, but the rest of the song is pretty decent.

3. Haiyani Spain (we’re the Ore)

I’m going to assume it’s just an updated cut of the original Haiyani Spain from their “Rokkinpo Goroshi” album.  Granted it’s been a hot minute since I’ve taken a listen to that track in particular.  Not quite sure whats totally changed but the song is pretty quick and Daisuke-han has some wild parts and a lot of the song is him shouting hard.  It’s a good track though and it seems I like it better than before.

4. Haikei VAP Domo

Because this is the band’s first single under their new label, Warner, Haikei VAP Domo is pretty much them talking about their time in VAP and switching over to their new label, Warner.  Since this like “maximum the hormone II” also got a PV (was the first released actually), I was curious to hear this.  I was happy to see how upbeat and pop/punkish this song is as it definitely gives me some “Minoreba Rock” or some of the poppier tracks in their collection.  Nao seems to have the chorus though and she adds so much energy, but I also notice there’s a lack of Daisuke-han interestingly (but if the PV is one to go by, he had a neck injury and may be the reason he didn’t have lines).  It’s just a fun track and really won me over!

Well disregarding the updated cut of “Mimi Kajiru Shin’uchi” this is the first release from the band since 2013’s “Yoshuu Fukushuu” and with that a whole lot of happenings good and bad before the band and switched labels to finally release this single in 2018.  I have to say the time off has really given the band some rest (minus some injuries) but this was a nice comeback!  All the songs have something really decent about them and the band just keeps rollin’ awesome metal songs…I just hope they don’t take too long for their next release!

MAXIMUM THE HORMONE – Yoshuu Fukushuu January 20, 2019

  13. Beauty Colisseum
  14. maximum the hormone
  15. Koi no Sperm
  16. untitled (hidden track)

1. Yoshuu Fukushuu

As the album’s opening, Yoshuu Fukushuu doesn’t quite kick off like their last album did, instead of kicks off with light guitar and bass and what I feel like Nao singing at the first verses before the rest of the band takes charge and hits pretty hard.  I’m enjoying the group taking their heavy metal sound in a less chaotic way but still making it feel like MTH.  There’s a LOT of Daisuke-han doing his screamo-raps and then the tune lightens up and we hear Ryo-kun too.  The tune is pretty cool and opens the album quite nicely!

2. Utsukushiki OP ~Tsuki no Bakugekiki~

Next track up is a short 30-second interlude that includes just Ryo-kun playing guitar and singing a short excerpt in a studio room (the low quality sound, explained).  Nothing else to really much say but it does lead into our next track.

3. Utsukushiki Hitobito no Uta

Lead perfectly into the first of the older songs, this one from “Greatest the Hits 2001-2011”, Utsukushiki Hitobito no Uta and boy this one definitely harkens back to their more upbeat punk rock style before instantly diving into their rap/heavy metal mix and I’m loving the energy from the song as everyone sounds great especially the back and forth from Ryo-kun & Daisuke-han!  Very fun and powerful and awesome it was a lead A-side.

4. Benjo Sandal Dance

Back to new songs, Benjo Sandal Dance starts off with a kickin beat and great melody.  Ryo-kun starts things off before Nao joins in and we’re getting a LOT of sass and cool rhythms throughout which once again seems to impress me.  It sounds so unique and watching the band just blaze through it keeps impressing me.  While I think the last two tracks were much stronger, this one was still pretty up there!

5. Chuu 2 The Beam

Oh the school bell melody opens up the next track and immediately goes from 0 to 100 just like that!  Chuu 2 The Beam is very quick-paced and or the first time I’m hearing a LOT of Ue-chan (the band’s bassist) here from his slap bass technique and impressive speed to him actually singing?  This song is another one of the playful songs and I quite dig the passages.  Impressive!

6. “F”

Wow, are we reaching this far back?  It feels like forever since this single came out (back in 2008) so hearing it make the album cut in 2013 is just rather a big space.  I definitely remembered this song and loved it because it was a song about the DragonBall Z antagonist, Frieza!  So being the anime weeb I am, I knew I was going to dig this track a lot!  There’s just a bunch of Ryo-kun & Daisuke-han on here, mostly the latter who is just unleashed in the track!  Still a standout regardless!

7. Tsume Tsume Tsume

Oh?  We’re gonna get its other A-side right after huh?  In comparison, Tsume Tsume Tsume feels a bit more even especially with Nao having a singing part in the track.  At this point it does feel similar to a couple other songs, but that really doesn’t mean much because it’s still the band at high quality here.  It’s just I remember others better I suppose!

8. Rock Oremairi ~3 Chord de Omae Full Bokko~

A short 2 minute track, Rock Oremairi is pretty much a fast-paced track that kind of slams everything into the listener, especially with how quick Daisuke-han is shooting those lyrics.  Is Ue-chan also doing some quick lyrics too?  It feels like a full song despite its length, but I think it’s the sheer speed that’s really doing it for me, short and sweet!

9. Unbelievable! ~Suwomintsu Hokereiro Mifueho~

Next track and it’s an interesting as it feels a bit laidback versus other songs and once again I’m hearing Nao singing first and she doesn’t do half bad before the rest of the band comes in to sing the chorus (which is pretty much the title of the track).  Though the 2nd verse comes in and Daisuke-han switches the mood to the metal sound.  Interesting song overall I’d say and kind of bop-worthy.

10. A.L.I.E.N

The band opens up with a roll and then kicks off the song and it’s just as rampage-worthy as “Rock Oremairi” was but unlike that track it does somewhat slow down a couple times to give some breathing room, but a lot of it is just unhinged and frantic and super fast-paced.  It’s a little much for me since it feels long too…

11. my girl

Another song from their 2nd single for the album, my girl tones things down a bit and it feels rockin’ and like something I would enjoy!  Even we get to hear Nao & Ryo-kun sing together and they do it pretty well!  It does give me a little bit of their “Rokkinpo Goroshi” sound that’s for sure and the mix of the group’s metal sound.  I pretty much enjoyed this all the way through!

12. Mesubuta no Ketsu ni Binta (Kick mo)

Why am I not surprised that the shorter songs are just fierce and in your face?  Mesubuta no Ketsu ni Binta doesn’t change that fact and Nao is definitely leading the the arrangement with loud percussion and a pretty cool guitar solo!  It’s just hard hitting, but it’s also catchy as hell!  One of the cooler songs on the album.

13. Beauty Colisseum

Ohhh, Beauty Colisseum comes in and I feel like this one could’ve been used as a promo song and given a PV because it just sounds really good and it’s so very them!  It just has this arrangement and feel that just works for them and it sounds like something they could’ve put on their last album!  It just hits that hard and the transitioning is pretty cool!! One of the best songs on the album, not counting the songs from the singles.

14. maximum the hormone

I was wondering with a band name like MTH, when they’ll just simply name a song after themselves and here we are!  Since this got the PV, I was happy to see it officially get one (although, surprised that “Chiisana Kimi no Te” isn’t on this album).  This song really got me going with the light psychedelic feel in the verses (with Ue-chan owning the bass and the vocals building on one another).  Then it goes into this punk vibe and it’s pretty neat as well!  Though Daisuke-han just goes nuts too xD.  It’s such a badass song and a favorite of mine!

15. Koi no Sperm

As the ending to the album, I wasn’t expecting synths and Nao’s voice under filters/autotuned for this song and it’s just a hilarious way to end the album with a title as such!  I am curious since this isn’t the hardest hitting nor does it really go too far on their metal side (cept when Daisuke-han has his parts).  I do laugh that they say ~sperm~ a whole bunch regardless.  It’s a good way to close the album…but…

16. untitled

There’s a hidden track!  As the ending of “Koi no Sperm” ends with some conversation with the band members it does go silent a bit before coming back with a lone guitar/bass melody from “Yoshuu Fukushuu” and more conversation (though its like only 20 seconds long so…huh…

I thought I had reviewed this album when it came out but I suppose I actually didn’t?!?  Well here we are I guess reviewing this 2013 album now lol!  I will have to say this album was pretty damn good, maybe in some way better than their last album, “Buiikikaesu!!”.  It feels like the band has gelled so well that their musicality has pushed them forward in the music sphere and all the members sound good if not at their best.  Hell, only one song really didn’t click with me versus the couple on their last album so overall, it’s by far their best album yet!

MAXIMUM THE HORMONE – Greatest The Hits 2011-2011 March 23, 2011

Filed under: MAXIMUM THE HORMONE — solarblade @ 2:45 pm

Track Listing

  1. Utsukushiki Hitobito no Uta
  2. maximum the hormone
  3. my girl

1. Utsukushiki Hitobito no Uta

It’s been great that our main track of choice brings it quite hardcore from MTH.  There’s a whole lot of Ryo-kun and Daisuke-han to be heard in the song since they go back and forth for most of the song, but we also get quips from Nao who was the reason for the bands hiatus who just had a baby (Congrats BTW).  I think it’s great the song brings us back to something heavy and strong, but “F” was much more better of a portrayal of awesomeness.

2. maximum the hormone

Kind of well-known since it also has a PV along for the ride, their self-titled song sounds a lot more deeper and has a better togetherness that “Utsukushiki Hitobito no Uta” didn’t have.  All three of the vocalists have lines and when Daisuke-han comes in the music explodes and has this force that’s just OMG epic.  Despite being a bit old, maximum the hormone is definitely one of MTH’s bests!

3. my girl

my girl finishes the single off and out of the songs here, my girl seems to be the most lightest but it’s also quite just like some of MTH’s songs like “Minoreba☆Rock” where the song seems upbeat, but has a dark twist whenever Daisuke-han starts doing his thing.  To me, it’s pretty good and hearing Nao under auto-tune is a little strange at first, she got better deeper in the song.

I’m so shocked that it’s been rather close to three years since “Tsume Tsume Tsume/”F”” was released and that single was huge!  Since Daisuke-han had surgery and Nao with her baby, the hiatus was a surprise to fan I bet.  I think they came back strong with this single and they sound great and full of life.  I did sort of wish “Chiisana Kimi no Te” was on the single since that song is so wtf-worthy for them….maybe album?

  12. Rock’n’Roll Chainsaw
  13. Koi no Kinako Watashi ni Kudasai

1. Rokkinpo Goroshi

We start the album with our title track and it’s definitly fast-paced.  Daisuke and Ryo are so hard to understand here because they are using some fast lyrics.  The song goes through many different areas which kept the song in an interesting style.  It’s just definitly wild.

2. Houchou Hasami Cutter Knife Dosu Kiri

It was the last single for the era and did end with a bang.  This was just hardcore fast and they didn’t let up on the speed.  Nao’s drumming is crazy here and Ryo and Daisuke-han are once again in the forefront blasting crazy fast lyrics.  It’s definitly one of my favorite songs from them and if you’ve seen the PV, you’re in for a ride as it’s just mind-numbing.

3. Nitro BB Sensou

We finally hear Nao sing a little bit in our first happy upbeat song.  Though I did find Daisuke-han’s moment was just a little outlandish but the song has a punk style of catchiness and it’s so fun.  Iono why, but this song is just uber fun and Ue-chan’s solo at the end was awesome.  Then there’s this quack at the end….

4. Falling Jimmy

Wait, they have many “Jimmy” songs so I’m guessing they are all connected somehow.  Once again Daisuke-han’s moment did make the music change a little bit.  ~FUCK JIMMY~ I mean when this is in the chorus is just hilarious.  The song felt really short and at the end there’s another quacking sound WTF!!

5. Kawakita Saruin

Another short song, but going back to the punk sound, Kawakita is just a messy song.  Like all it is, is a scream-fest for the first part while there’s bleeping which was so funny.  The chorus was so short though, even though all it is is ~Saruin~ and once again, that infamous quack on this album appears to finish the song.

6. Anal Whiskey Ponce (re-rec)

We begin this re-recording with Daisuke-han doing his usual fare of screaming/growling.  There’s something catchy about the song when Ryo comes in, but c’mon such a strange title for a song.  Once again it’s pretty short though barely making over 2 minutes.  I have to say this is Daisuke-han’s track.  There’s no quack either *gasp*

7. Rock Bankurawase

Beginning the era off, Rock Bankurawase is still short only 3 seconds longer than the last track, but this has a lot more interesting riffs and speed changes than the last track.  I’m not sure why, but this song just was that good and they made a good choice making this a single.

8. Haiyani Spain

There’s something freaky with Haiyani Spain.  It’s definitly metal sounding with those screams.  Ryo’s part is so fast that I couldn’t catch up with everything going on.  The bad part is that the song is heavily cut n’ paste because when the song gets good it goes back to the beginning with Daisuke-han’s wild rush and the transition is terrible.

9. FUTOSHI

It’s hard, but that’s all that’s going or it.  The bleeping returns which is so funny.  I think the best part is Ue-chan’s solo with the bass, it’s so amazing and he has to be one of the best.  Other than that, it’s a filler track.

10. Rei Rei Rei Rei Rei Rei Rei Rei Ma Ma Ma Ma Ma Ma Ma Ma

What’s with the long ass title right?  Well the song makes this seem like an anthem of sorts because they sing the title like it’s the best thing ever.  They do have a slightly dark part with Daisuke-han’s part and the later part of the song gets all cheery and stuff and repeating the title.  It’s ok, but not their best.

11. Rolling 1000toon

Rolling 1000toon returns us the punk side of the band with a much more upbeat sound and some great riffs fro the guitar and bass simultaneously.  Nao is even singing here again which is great.  What’s also interesting is that it was on a single during “Kusoban’s” era.  Seeing it here is pretty great and doesn’t detract from the album at all.

12. Rock’n’Roll Chainsaw

What’s with the cute opening of this one.  Ryo singing sounds so funny singing in this otherwise anthem-y track.  They even go back to the cutesy guitar rhythm.  I was like this is WTF on the album.  I have to say this is another one of my favorites as they switch from cute to dangerous in the song like *snaps fingers* that.  The quack even returned….WTF

13. Koi no Kinako Watashi ni Kudasai

What’s this?  A song that doesn’t even feature the band, but Nao only singing with just piano?  This really sent everyone for a spin, even if it was super short, actually the shortest track on the album.  She actually has a good voice on her and her high notes were definitly better than some other artists who tried to do the same.  I think the whole solemn and sad vibe the song worked except………………….THAT DAMN QUACK!!!!

Even though it isn’t “Buiikikaesu”, Rokkinpo Goroshi was a pretty straightforward album.  I did feel the album was really short compared to that album and at the same time, they did stay true to their sound which is great.  I still don’t know why they featured the whole quacking thing on most of the tracks, maybe there’s a good reason…Even though it totally felt out of place on the final track which well, was out of place in the first place anyway.  Still, good rock album from MTH

1. Buiikikaesu!!

We kick things off with this pretty kickass song.  Whenever there’s a cool bass line and cooler guitar riff, you know you have a great song altogether.  Daisuke-han’s interesting mix of rapping and screaming is very unique to the band IMO.  Also interesting note is that Nao, the drummer is singing the song as well which means everyone has singing abilities.  The song shows how much the band can do.

2. Zetsubou Billy

Most notable as the ending for the 2nd season of Death Note, Zetsubou Billy is so aggressive and very hardcore.  There’s an obvious mentality that the song is very angsty and angry.  After the 2nd chorus run-through they go into an interestingly slower part and the song goes more eviler.  Then all hell breaks loose when they say ~We are kira, My name’s Kira…etc.~  That’s was awesome and is a nod to a character in Death Note as well.  Epic song!

3. Kuso Breakin no Breakin Lily

Funny, how the song starts up with a music box and then gets kinda pop/rock.  Definitly a mood change from “Zetsubou Billy”.  It’s very fun and carefree, but when you least expect it, they get very metal and dark with Daisuke-han’s vocals which was so random for the song.  I love Nao’s voice when she finishes up the song.  I mean a drummer and a singer?  Totally gains respect points!

4. Louisiana Bob

Back into the aggressive stuff, It’s either more or less surprising because it’s just like the previous track but reversed.  There’s more of the angry stuff than the fun sounds.  The fun sounds actually is only the chorus.  I really like the drum solo and dark stuff.  Then there’s the singing that was so interesting and pretty darn cool.  I think I would have enjoyed more if it was more cleaner if you know what I mean.

5. Policeman Benz

I really enjoyed this track being so in your face and full of interesting bass lines.  I mean there’s a lot of screaming and not really anything decipherable.  Then the chorus gets a strong beat and it becomes something of like an anthem.  Oh my, Daisuke-han cusses like a sailor BTW which is funny hearing him saying ~Fuck~ over and over again.

6. Black¥Power G-Man Spy

I love the entrance for the song, I totally do.  Sounds sneaky and mysterious.  It seems like Ryo was trying his hands at rapping and it sounds pretty nifty.  To be honest this is Ue-chan’s song (the bassist)  There’s just a lot of moments for him and even the song seems so short.

7. Akagi

Oh, this song is fast and full of hard rhythms and some awkward moments from Daisuke-han.  I do like when things calm down for a little for Ryo’s line.  Then after a while his voice is filtered and the song goes into a march sound and then this guitar line happens that I remembered off a single when it was in it’s beta stage.  Still it is the shortest track off the album.

8. Kyokatsu

Drum starts the song up and then there’s some screaming before Daisuke-han’s uhm rapping I guess?  It’s also very angry and just has some great momentum even with the drums changing beats every so often.  The chorus has Ryo singing and he’s not such a bad singer, which is a good thing.  Then things became odd when I heard some things that sounded like “Buiikikaesu!!” which was surprising.

9. Bikini Sports Ponchin

Another one of the tracks that I love the start of.  Then the lines became very scary sounding and Daisuke-han gets fast again and does various things like growling and squealing.  I think the song was for the awesome rhythms it had going for.  Every line had something new to it and was awesome.  Sadly vocally, I didn’t understand anything except for Nao’s line…which was still covered by the music.

10. What’s up, people?!

Literally, the first song I heard and it was the opening theme for Death Note.  The song has a great sense of rhythm and awesome lyrics.  I really like Ryo’s vocals as it is so fast and made sense.  Then, I guess the chorus is where the bass starts playing up.  The whole song was basically awesome, until the end.  Where it got so messy and just screwy…Still the rest is awesome.

11. Chu chu Lovely Muni Muni Mura Mura Purin Purin Boron Nururu Nero Nero

Like the title is so random and I have no idea what the hell it means.  It sounds funny and upbeat at first before Daisuke-han pops in because he makes the song more metal.  Nao’s solo lines sounds so friggin awesome.  Still the chorus is very repetitive because it’s the song title.  Nao’s says half of it and the rest of the group says the other half.  It doesn’t get too annoying because I do adore the song.  I want to say this is Nao’s song because she sings most of it anyways.

12. Shimi

The song is a slow hardcore song evident by the slow drumming and guitar riffs.  Then after the beginning it speeds itself of and Daisuke-han is going all over the charts on the singing.  OMG, another Nao solo?  Anything with her voice makes the song better.  Ryo though screams his ass off and then it goes back to the slow tempo again.  I have to say though I dont like the singing in this part.  Still it’s pretty good.

13. Koi no Megalover

This song being the final song is so random because it’s the first time I’ve heard synth in a MTH song.  Even then the song sounded so fun and totally unlike them.  Then it’s lead into the stuff I’m used to, but everyone is singing so fast that it’s hard to understand what they said.  I actually ended up liking the song for some reason that c’mon synth usage!

Track Listing

  1. Tsume Tsume Tsume
  2. 「F」
  3. Kill All The 394

1. Tsume Tsume Tsume

Damn, already from the start we get such wild sounds.  After Daisuke-han finished he’s yelling we get to some pretty good riffs from the band.  Then we enter the chorus where things sort of makes sense but as easily it starts we’re lef back in the growling.  The thing I love though is Nao or the female drummer of the group.  I ❤ her and respect so much.  She’s awesome.  I still think her skills are the major point for the song since she carries the beat and it’s wild.  The middle then hits a real metal moment with so much yelling.  Still it’s very good for a metal song.

2. 「F」

F is so much crazier than “Tsume Tsume Tsume” but at the same time we got Ryo-kun and Nao singing together which is pretty cool since they are blood related.  The song actually has a more clearer melody and has more togetherness.  I love when they go for abstract beats, it makes it more enjoyable.  I think they are saying ~Freezer~ which is probably what “F” meant.  Still the ending was awesome with that loud bass line from Ue-Chan.  Awesome track.  OHHHH, after reading the translations it turns out the song is one major Dragonball Z love-fest and they are yelling ~Frieza~  The totally changed my opinion of the song, well maybe not a lot, but I love the song a lot more now.

3. Kill All The 394

Sounded like they were in a studio before starting up.  The song is also crazy like the previous tracks but in it lays some sort of playfulness to it.  Mostly you can hear it in the chorus.  Shockingly, this is a very short track not even hitting 2 minutes.  So it’s likely there just for filler.  Still I like their fun songs.

MAXIMUM THE HORMONE is an awesome ass band.  They are so unique with Ue-chan playing the bass like Flea from RHCP, Daisuke-han who is the screamer of the band who’s got so much energy to him it’s crazy, Ryo-kun who leads the band and plays some awesome guitar and Nao THE COOLEST DRUMMER EVER.  Ok, well the single itself actually was number one on the Orican charts for 4 straight days, you’d think they get No. 1 for the week right?  NOPE!, This was the week that Perfume took it with “love the world.  Which is pretty odd.  Still this single was awesome and great to hear from them since they havent released a single since last year.
